ICSSR-Sponsored Research Methodology Course Begins at AMU

Aligarh, August 5: A ten-day Research Methodology Course in Social Sciences, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, commenced at the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Wednesday. The programme is designed to strengthen the research capabilities of young scholars and postdoctoral fellows through intensive training in contemporary research methods, advanced analytical techniques, and modern digital tools.

The inaugural session was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Parveen Farooquie, Principal of Women's Polytechnic, AMU, was the Guest of Honour. Senior Professor Prof. Syed Naushad Ahmad and Officiating Chairperson of the Department of Geography, Prof. Rashid Aziz Faridi, were also present. The programme has brought together 37 participants from universities and institutions across Jammu & Kashmir, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, and Delhi.

Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary research and emphasized the crucial role of primary data in social science research. He also spoke about AMU's multidisciplinary academic environment, which encourages collaborative research across disciplines.

Welcoming the participants, Course Director Prof. Arshad Amin highlighted the department's rich academic legacy and expressed confidence that the programme would equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills essential for high-quality research.

Prof. Rashid Aziz Faridi and Prof. Syed Naushad Ahmad welcomed the participants and spoke about the department's longstanding contribution to geographical research. Prof. Parveen Farooquie emphasized the importance of identifying research talent at an early stage and integrating content with pedagogy to promote meaningful research. She also stressed the significance of research ethics, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and effective time management in producing quality research.

Co-Course Director Dr. Saleha Jamal outlined the structure of the programme, which includes sessions on research design, data collection, data analysis, publication ethics, and contemporary research methodologies. She also highlighted the practical training components, including hands-on sessions in Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), aimed at enhancing participants' research competence.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, who also conducted the proceedings of the programme.

ALIGARH, August 3: Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a large-scale plantation drive under the nationwide "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in collaboration with the Department of Land and Gardens to promote environmental sustainability and strengthen the University's green initiatives.

The programme was inaugurated by the Dean Students' Welfare, Prof. M. Athar Ansari, while Prof. Qudsia Tahseen, Director, Directorate of School Education, AMU, graced as the guest of honour. Among those present were Prof. Anwar Shehzad, Member In-charge, Land and Gardens; Prof. Shams Tabrez Khan, Department of Agricultural Microbiology; and Prof. Abdul Rauf Khan, Provost, Sir Syed Hall (South).

The plantation drive was organised under the leadership of Prof. Asia Sultana, Provost, Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall, with the active support of the wardens and hall staff. Saplings were planted at various locations across the hall premises, and participants pledged to nurture and protect them, reaffirming their commitment to environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Athar Ansari highlighted the importance of tree plantation in preserving ecological balance and encouraged students to actively participate in environmental protection initiatives. Prof. Qudsia Tahseen also appreciated the efforts of the Hall administration in promoting environmental awareness and fostering a sense of social responsibility among students.

Professor Akhtarul Wasey (born 1951 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh) is one of India’s most respected voices in Islamic studies, minority rights, and interfaith dialogue. A proud alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, he earned multiple degrees there—B.A. (1971), B.Th. (1975), M.Th. (1976), and M.A. (1977)—before expanding his horizons with a Diploma in Turkish Language from Istanbul University (1983).

Career Highlights:

- Served for over three decades at Jamia Millia Islamia, eventually becoming Professor Emeritus of Islamic Studies.

- Appointed National Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities, a constitutional role advocating for India’s diverse voices.

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया (JMI) के कुल 3,080 छात्रों और 610 स्टाफ़ सदस्यों ने 2 अगस्त 2026 को डॉ. एम.ए. अंसारी ऑडिटोरियम में देशव्यापी 'नशा मुक्त युवा फॉर विकसित भारत संकल्प अभियान' में भाग लिया।

 

यह कार्यक्रम जामिया के माननीय कुलपति प्रो. मज़हर आसिफ़ और रजिस्ट्रार प्रो. मो. महताब आलम रिज़वी, विश्वविद्यालय के अधिकारियों, फैकल्टी, स्कूल एवं विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों की मौजूदगी में आयोजित किया गया।

 

कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत भारत के माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के संबोधन के लाइव प्रसारण से हुई, जिसके बाद एनसीडी, नई दिल्ली द्वारा प्रसारित एक नुक्कड़ नाटक दिखाया गया। इस कार्यक्रम में नशीले पदार्थों के सेवन के ख़िलाफ़ देशव्यापी शपथ भी शामिल थी, जिसके दौरान प्रतिभागियों ने नशीले पदार्थों के सेवन के हानिकारक प्रभावों के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने और युवाओं को स्वस्थ, ज़िम्मेदार और नशा-मुक्त जीवनशैली अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के अपने संकल्प को दोहराया। कार्यक्रम में 'विकसित भारत 2047' के व्यापक मिशन के तहत नशा-मुक्त भारत के विज़न को साकार करने में सामुदायिक भागीदारी के महत्व पर भी ज़ोर दिया गया।

 

कार्यक्रम का समापन छात्र कल्याण डीन, प्रो. नीलोफ़र अफ़ज़ल द्वारा औपचारिक धन्यवाद ज्ञापन के साथ हुआ।

अलीगढ़, 2 अगस्तः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय (एएमयू) के लगभग 1,200 विद्यार्थियों, शिक्षकों, अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों ने राष्ट्रीय नशा मुक्त युवा फॉर विकसित भारत अभियान के अंतर्गत प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के वर्चुअल संबोधन का केनेडी ऑडिटोरियम, कल्चरल एजुकेशन सेंटर में आयोजित लाइव प्रसारण को देखा।
विश्वविद्यालय की राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना (एनएसएस) द्वारा आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम में एएमयू के विभिन्न विभागों तथा विद्यालयों के विद्यार्थियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया।
कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि प्रो-वाइस चांसलर प्रो. मोहम्मद मोहसिन खान थे, जबकि डीन स्टूडेंट्स वेलफेयर प्रो. एम. अथर अंसारी विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे। इस अवसर पर कला संकाय के डीन एवं कल्चरल एजुकेशन सेंटर के समन्वयक प्रो. मोहम्मद रिजवान खान, एनएसएस समन्वयक डा मोहसिन खान, डिप्टी डीन स्टूडेंट्स वेलफेयर प्रो. सुबूही खान, फार्माकोलॉजी विभाग के अध्यक्ष प्रो. सैयद जियाउर्रहमान, एनाटॉमी विभाग के अध्यक्ष प्रो. फजल-उर-रहमान, जनसंपर्क कार्यालय की सदस्य प्रभारी प्रोफेसर विभा शर्मा, एनएसएस कार्यक्रम अधिकारी डॉ. अब्दुल जब्बार तथा जनसंपर्क अधिकारी उमर एस पीरजादा सहित विभिन्न विभागों के अध्यक्ष, शिक्षक व प्रवोस्ट भी मौजूद थे।
अपने वर्चुअल संबोधन में प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने नशा मुक्त युवा फॉर विकसित भारत अभियान को व्यक्ति, परिवार, समाज और राष्ट्र का जनआंदोलन बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि वर्ष 2047 तक विकसित भारत के लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए देश का युवा शारीरिक एवं मानसिक रूप से स्वस्थ, आत्मविश्वासी तथा नशे की बुराइयों से मुक्त होना चाहिए। उन्होंने युवाओं से नशीले पदार्थों के दुष्प्रभावों को समझने, उनसे दूर रहने तथा विद्यालयों, महाविद्यालयों और समाज में नशामुक्ति का संदेश फैलाने का आह्वान किया।
प्रधानमंत्री ने बताया कि देशभर के 28 हज़ार से अधिक स्थानों पर एक करोड़ से अधिक युवाओं, माई भारत स्वयंसेवकों तथा एनएसएस स्वयंसेवकों ने इस अभियान में भाग लिया है। उन्होंने विश्वास व्यक्त किया कि भारत का युवा जागरूक, जिम्मेदार और अपने कर्तव्यों के प्रति समर्पित है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह अभियान अगले 100 सप्ताह तक प्रत्येक रविवार को खेलकूद, सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमों, ध्यान, सेवा कार्यों तथा जन-जागरूकता गतिविधियों के माध्यम से निरंतर चलाया जाएगा।
प्रधानमंत्री ने महाविद्यालयों एवं विश्वविद्यालयों के शिक्षकों से अपने परिसरों में नशा विरोधी जन-जागरण अभियान चलाने का आह्वान करते हुए कहा कि नशे की लत युवाओं के सपनों और संभावनाओं को नष्ट करने के साथ-साथ परिवारों को भी गहरा आघात पहुँचाती है तथा राष्ट्र को कमजोर करती है। उन्होंने समाज, शिक्षण संस्थानों, अभिभावकों तथा सामाजिक एवं आध्यात्मिक संगठनों से मिलकर नशा मुक्त भारत और विकसित भारत के निर्माण में योगदान देने की अपील की।
इस अवसर पर प्रो. मोहम्मद मोहसिन खान, प्रो. एम. अथर अंसारी, प्रो. सैयद जियाउर्रहमान, प्रो. फजल-उर-रहमान तथा प्रो. विभा शर्मा ने भी विद्यार्थियों को संबोधित करते हुए उन्हें नशामुक्त समाज के दूत बनने तथा अपने साथियों एवं समाज में नशे के विरुद्ध जागरूकता फैलाने का आह्वान किया।
कार्यक्रम का सफल आयोजन कुलपति प्रो. नईमा खातून के नेतृत्व में डीन स्टूडेंट्स वेलफेयर कार्यालय, राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना, कल्चरल एजुकेशन सेंटर, केंद्रीय ऑटोमोबाइल कार्यशाला, विद्युत विभाग तथा एएमयू स्कूल्स शिक्षा निदेशालय के समन्वित प्रयासों से संपन्न हुआ। विश्वविद्यालय ने कार्यक्रम के सफल समन्वयन में रजिस्ट्रार प्रो. एम. आसिम जफर के मार्गदर्शन एवं सहयोग की भी सराहना की गई।
कार्यक्रम का संचालन एनएसएस कार्यक्रम अधिकारी डॉ. फौजिया फरीदी ने किया तथा धन्यवाद ज्ञापित भी किया। डॉ. मोहम्मद उजैर ने उपस्थित प्रतिभागियों को नशा मुक्त भारत की शपथ दिलाई, जिसे सभी ने उत्साहपूर्वक दोहराया। विद्यार्थियों ने बड़ी संख्या में राष्ट्रीय प्रतिज्ञा पोर्टल पर पंजीकरण कर नशामुक्त भारत के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता भी व्यक्त की।

ALIGARH, August 2: Four students from the Department of Foreign Languages, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), have secured placements in Amazon, one of the world’s leading US-based multinational corporations specializing in e-commerce, cloud computing, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence.

The selections were made during a recruitment drive organized by the Training and Placement Office (General), AMU. After multiple rounds of assessments, the students selected for the roles of Senior Associates and Associates include Anas Ahmad Khan (M.A. French), Samar Warsi (M.A. German), Azhar Zia (B.A. German), and Ishtiyaque Alam (B.A. Spanish).

Mr. Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (General), AMU, congratulated the students and highlighted that their success reflects not only their dedication and hard work but also the high-quality teaching and training imparted by the university.

AMU Architecture Scholars Earn Praise at University of Cambridge

ALIGARH, July 28: Bringing laurels to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), PhD scholars and faculty members from the Department of Architecture represented the University at the prestigious Gulf Research Meeting (GRM) 2026, held at King's College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, from July 20 to 23.

PhD scholars Abhishek Bhardwaj and Zainab Rao presented their research paper titled "Vertical Rivalries: High-Rise Skyline Competition between the Cities of Riyadh and Dubai." The study was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Mohammad Farhan Fazli and Prof. Mohd Khalid Hassan of the Department of Architecture, AMU.

The research received widespread appreciation from the workshop directors, Prof. Gerd Nonneman and Dr.GülnarEskandar, who praised its originality and contemporary relevance. The study explores the changing urban competition between Gulf cities through the growth of high-rise buildings and the transformation of their skylines.

The research paper has been accepted for publication in a reputed international journal. The achievement highlights the Department of Architecture's growing international academic presence and its commitment to promoting high-quality research.

ALIGARH, July 30: Prof. Farhan Ahmad Khan, Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been selected as an Examiner at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM), Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom, marking a significant international recognition of his academic excellence and expertise in pharmaceutical medicine.

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine is the professional membership body responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards in the specialty of pharmaceutical medicine in the United Kingdom. As an Examiner, Dr. Khan will contribute to the assessment and maintenance of professional standards for physicians specializing in medicines development and pharmaceutical medicine.

Congratulating Dr. Khan, Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, said that the appointment is a matter of pride for the department and the university.

It may be noted that both Dr. Farhan A. Khan and Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman are Fellows of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM), Royal College of Physicians.

एएमयू गर्ल्स स्कूल की छात्रा कुलसुम ने प्रतिष्ठित एएफएस वैश्विक विज्ञान                                                                                                                                   नवाचार के लिये चयनित

अलीगढ़, 30 जुलाईः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के गर्ल्स स्कूल की नवीं कक्षा की छात्रा कुलसुम का चयन प्रतिष्ठित एएफएस वैश्विक विज्ञान नवाचार कार्यक्रम के लिए हुआ है। यह एक अत्यंत प्रतिस्पर्धी कार्यक्रम था, जिसमें देशभर के प्रतिभाशाली युवा नवाचारकर्ताओं का चयन किया जाता है।

पुणे स्थित फ्लेम विश्वविद्यालय में आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम का मुख्य विषय विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी, अभियांत्रिकी और गणित शिक्षा, सतत विकास, नवाचार, नेतृत्व तथा वैश्विक नागरिकता था। कार्यक्रम के दौरान कुलसुम ने विभिन्न संवादात्मक सत्रों में भाग लिया और देश के अलग-अलग हिस्सों से आए विद्यार्थियों, विशेषज्ञों और मार्गदर्शकों के साथ मिलकर कार्य किया। इस दौरान उन्हें नई सोच, आधुनिक विचारों और वैश्विक दृष्टिकोण को समझने का अवसर मिला।

कुलसुम की इस उपलब्धि पर गर्ल्स स्कूल की प्रधानाचार्या आमना मलिक ने उन्हें बधाई देते हुए कहा कि यह स्कूल और एएमयू दोनों के लिए गर्व का विषय है। उपप्रधानाचार्या अलका अग्रवाल ने उनकी मेहनत और लगन की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि उनकी सफलता अन्य छात्राओं, विशेषकर छात्राओं को राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रमों में भाग लेने के लिए प्रेरित करेगी।

अंग्रेजी शिक्षिका एवं मार्गदर्शक बुशरा किरमानी ने भी कुलसुम की उपलब्धि पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि उनकी ईमानदारी, जिज्ञासा और दृढ़ संकल्प ने उन्हें यह सम्मान दिलाया है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह सफलता निरंतर मार्गदर्शन, कड़ी मेहनत और नई चीजें सीखने की इच्छा का परिणाम है।

कुलसुम ने अपनी इस उपलब्धि का श्रेय अपने शिक्षकों, मार्गदर्शकों, परिवारजनों को दिया है। कुलसुम ने कह है कि इनके निरंतर प्रोत्साहन और सहयोग ने ही उसे इस मुकाम तक पहुँचने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।

ALIGARH, July 30: The Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (RIED) Cell, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an invited lecture today on "From Farm to Formulation: The Role of Plant Protection in Standardization and Quality Assurance of Medicinal Plants."

Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz introduced the guest speaker, Prof. Mohammed Mahmood, Department of Plant Protection, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia, who delivered the lecture. Prof. Mahmood highlighted the critical role of plant protection in ensuring the quality, efficacy, and safety of medicinal plants, particularly in Unani medicine, and stressed that scientific plant protection practices are essential for standardized herbal formulations. He encouraged students and young researchers to integrate agricultural sciences with pharmaceutical research for developing safe and quality-assured herbal products.

The lecture drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, research scholars, and students, who engaged actively during the question-and-answer session.

Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, appreciated the lecture and commended Prof. Mahmood for sharing his expertise, noting that such interactions strengthen research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A major highlight of the event was the release of the Faculty's research journal, Unani Medicus, Volume 9, Issue 1, attended by Editorial Board members Prof. Tanzeel Ahmad, Dr. Ammar Ibne Anwar, Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan, Dr. Arshi Riaz, and Dr. Sumbul Rehman.
