Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin lays the foundation stone of ‘His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Institute of Pharmacy’ at AMU
ALIGARH February 12: Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin Sahab, the third and youngest son of His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd Da'i al-Mutlaq and head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, and the former Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), today urged the students and faculty members of AMU to do Tafakkur (think) and ponder over the creation of the universe while pursuing their academic work.
He emphasized that true service is using the light of knowledge to serve our country and all of humanity.
Shahzada Burhanuddin was addressing the faculty members and students at the foundation laying ceremony of “His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Institute of Pharmacy”, which will be constructed from a grant donated by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin.
He said that human beings have not been created without a purpose, but man has been made the best of all creatures to carry out larger purposes. We should always strive to be the best at whatever we take up.
“The objective behind all researches and studies should be to benefit humanity... It is imperative for a researcher to use wisdom, knowledge and reason for finding out remedies for diseases, while having faith in the Creartor’s blessings” he added.
He pointed out that no diseases have been created without its remedy at the same time, but it is for the researchers to find out the remedy and make it available for the treatment.
Emphasizing the importance of character building and conveying the message of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, Shahzada Husain called upon the university fraternity to adopt an affirmative gesture towards all and always show kindness even if they face hostility.
He said Islam has called upon us to remain true and loyal to our country and serve it with a high degree of patriotism.
He stated that the construction of the state-of-the-art building of ‘His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Institute of Pharmacy’ at AMU is yet another milestone in the age old relationship between the Syedna family and the Aligarh Muslim University, and this institute will serve humanity beyond all constraints.
In his presidential remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez said it is a historic day for AMU that the spiritual head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Da'i al-Mutlaq His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has very kindly donated a building for the Institute of Pharmacy. He said this gesture has further strengthened the relationship between the Syedna family and the AMU.
He said that introduction of courses like B.Phrama and D.Pharma would be another big addition in the list of courses offered by AMU, and the students would be greatly benefited from the Institute of Pharmacy.
Prof Gulrez extended heart-felt gratitude to Syedna for always patronizing AMU and for granting aid during Covid-19 to provide better medical facilities to the Covid patients.
Earlier, welcoming the distinguished guest, AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) said that the university community feels indebted to Syedna for taking up the construction project of the Institute of Pharmacy which would have the stamp of world class construction that the Dawoodi Bohra community is known for.
He highlighted the legacy of the last three Da'i al-Mutlaq, Syedna Taher Saifuddin, Syedna Burhanuddin and Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who adorned the office of the Chancellor of AMU and who showed a higher degree of benevolence and patronage towards the university, throughout the decades starting from 1950s.
Dr Raza Abbas elaborated on the family history of Da'i al-Mutlaq Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin with special mention of their role in the development of the Aligarh Muslim University.
Prof Nadeem Khalil, University Engineer made a short presentation on the details of the Institute of Pharmacy project.
He said that the proposed Institute is to be built over 3 acres with a total covered area of around 58,300 sq. ft. It would be a two-storeyed building with elements of modern, Fatemi and AMU architecture having modern learning facilities and conducive spaces for research. Scope for future expansion has been inbuilt into the plan.
This institute will complete a long-felt need of meeting the demand for a sought-after professional course in the healthcare sector and would complete the range of health related education that AMU offers, he added.
It is to be noted that AMU already has leading colleges of modern medicine, Unani medicine, dentistry, nursing and paramedical.
While extending a vote of thanks, Prof Mohd Altamush Siddiqui, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, expressed a deep sense of gratitude towards Syedna Mufaddal Saifudding for his generous donation for the Institute of Pharmacy.
Prof. F.S. Sherani, Coordinator CEC conducted the entire programme. The event organized at the Kennedy Auditorium was attended by over one thousand gests, including the faculty members and students.
A Memorandum of Association was also signed by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Foundation and AMU regarding the Institute.
Earlier in the morning, Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin laid the foundation stone of the Institute of Pharmacy at its site situated on Qila Road, in the presence of Mr Qusai Jamaluddin Bhaisahab, Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Gulrez, Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran IPS, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof Mohd Altamush Siddiqui, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Prof M.M. Sufiyan Beg, Proctor Prof M. Wasim Ali, University Engineer Prof Nadeem Khalil and other officials.
He also visited the SS Hall and Strachey Hall buildings and paid rich tributes to the founder of the university Sir Syed Ahmad Khan while offering prayers at his mausoleum in the premises of the university Jama Masjid. He also planted a sapling in the lawns of S.S. Hall (South).
Earlier, he visited the Syedna Taher Saifauddin School and took a round through the historic buildings and school library.
