Department of Social Work, AMU Organises 28th Orientation Programme

 

Orientation Programme at the Dept of Social Work AMU

The Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an orientation programme of one week duration for the newly admitted MSW students, to orient them with the field work practicum.

During the 28^th orientation session, resource persons from administration, academia and social organizations apprised the students of the fundamentals of social work profession, and familiarized them with the realm of university life from academia to social activities including course requirements, satisfactory progress, reference materials, disciplinary procedures and the university culture.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Prof Abdul Alim, Dean Students’ Welfare and Chief Vigilance Officer, AMU emphasized the significance of capacity building in social workers and the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 that focuses on skilling and capacity building.

Addressing the students, the chief guest, Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan, Finance Officer, AMU highlighted the concern of the present-day scenario of social workers and their interaction with the society. “The truth must prevail in the context of the services that social workers provide to the individuals and society”, he said.

The guest of honour, Prof Brij Bhushan Singh, Professor, Department of Physical Education and Provost, NRSC Hall, AMU related both the courses MSW and Physical Education with the same objective which is to serve the society. He motivated the students to study hard to excel in their careers.

Prof Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Social Work explained the vision and mission of the department. He informed that the department has had almost 100% placement over the years in prestigious organizations like Azim Premji Foundation, UNICEF, Zinc India Limited, Coal India Ltd., Livelihood Mission (UP and Rajasthan), and Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment etc.

He also extended thanks to the guests for sparing their valuable time for the orientation programme.

Earlier, Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work welcomed the guests, faculty members, research scholars and students. He delineated the values of the social work profession which are: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships and competence.

Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Department of Social Work proposed a vote of thanks.

Prof Azra Musavi, Director, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU, Dr. Saleem Mohammad Khan, Director, SOCH NGO, Mr. Saad Hameed, TPO-General, AMU, Dr. Quratul Aein Ali,  Dr. Shyna Saif and Dr. Sameera Khanam were also present on the occasion. 

 

Academic delegation from the University of Melbourne visits JMI

 A high level academic delegation from the prestigious University of Melbourne, Australia visited Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).  Prof. Sara Begum, Dean Faculty of Education warmly welcomed them in the Seminar Hall of the Faculty. An Interactive Programme between faculty members and the delegation was organized to share the experiences. Prof. Sara Begum briefed them about the glorious past of the faculty and how it evolved from Teachers Training Institute (TTI) into Faculty of Education.

 

Prof. Jessy Abraham, Head, Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE) highlighted the significance of the department and its unique craft based teacher education programmes.

 

Prof. Arshad Ikram Ahmad, Head, Department of Educational Studies highlighted the meaningful contribution of the department made in the field of research, innovation, educational technology, development of e-content and other resources and training of in-service teachers and principals. He said that the department is progressing with leaps and bounce with the dynamic faculty members of the department and there is a kind of rejuvenation in the department. He also discussed how different programme got introduced in the department with the passage of time.

 

The delegation members were very impressed to see such a diverse, inclusive and dynamic nature of the faculty. They especially visited Interior Decoration Lab. in IASE and were very overwhelmed to see the creative and innovative work of the students. They took photos, recorded videos and interacted with Dr. Shadma Yasmeen, the In-charge of the Lab. They showed very keen interest to establish bilateral educational and cultural ties between JMI and University of Melbourne and a MoU between the two universities is likely to be signed soon to initiate exchange programme.

 

Dr. Mohammad Asjad Ansari, Assistant Proctor and Programme Coordinator D.El.Ed. proposed formal vote of thanks and with this the programme was concluded.

JMI VC attends Banquet hosted by President of Bharat to honor Saudi Crown Prince

 

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) attended the Banquet hosted by the Hon’ble President of Bharat Smt. Droupadi Murmu in honor of Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on September 11, 2023. 

During the function, she met with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and other dignitaries and guests. According to the Rashtrapati Bhawan statement, the President said “economic component of India-Saudi Arabia partnership has also grown in recent years. She added that there are ample opportunities for increasing Saudi investments in India across several different sectors.”

Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri)  has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Eqbal Hussain as the ProVice Chancellor(PVC) (Naib Shaikhul Jamia)  of the university with immediate effect till the expiry of the term of the present Vice Chancellor or till he attains the age of 65 years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

Prof. (Dr.) Eqbal Hussain is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Law,JMI.  He started his teaching career with National Law School of India University, Bangalore in June 1990 and joined JMI in the February, 1994. He also taught at Zanzibar University Zanzibar, Tanzania from April, 2002 to March, 2005. He was promoted to the post of Professor at JMI on September 23^rd, 2013.

Prof. Hussain’s main areas of interest are Intellectual Property Right, Consumer Protection Laws, Mercantile Laws and Jurisprudence. He is the Life-Member of Indian Law Institute, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi. He has contributed a large number of articles on contemporary issues which have been published in national and international journals.

JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar also appointed Prof. Zahid Ashraf, Department of Biotechnology as the Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences and Prof. Tabrez Alam Khan, Department of Chemistry as the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences of the university. These two faculties were recently created by bifurcating the erstwhile Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university.

The Vice Chancellor also appointed Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir as Dean Student’s Welfare (DSW) of the university with immediate effect.

अतिथियों का स्वागत करते हुए, सीएएस के इतिहास विभाग की अध्यक्ष और समन्वयक प्रोफेसर गुलफिशां खान ने काबुल के ऐतिहासिक महत्व, क्षेत्र की संस्कृति को आकार देने में बाबर की भूमिका और बाग-ए वफा, बाग-ए सफा और कवि सैब के महत्व पर प्रकाश डाला।

प्रख्यात इतिहासकार प्रोफेसर एमेरिटस प्रोफेसर इरफान हबीब ने अफगानिस्तान के इतिहास, आदिवासी गतिशीलता, भाषाओं, गांधार कला और इसके ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ में अंतर्दृष्टि प्रदान की। उन्होंने दुनिया के सबसे शुरुआती एकेश्वरवादी ग्रंथों में से एक, अवेस्ता के संकलन में अफगानिस्तान की भूमिका को रेखांकित किया, और धार्मिक और दार्शनिक विचारों के उद्गम स्थल के रूप में इसके महत्व पर जोर दिया।

अपने अध्यक्षीय भाषण में, सामाजिक विज्ञान संकाय के डीन, प्रोफेसर मिर्जा असमर बेग ने अफगानिस्तान के ऐतिहासिक महत्व और महिलाओं और बच्चों से संबंधित समकालीन मानवाधिकार मुद्दों के साथ-साथ इसके जटिल राजनीतिक परिदृश्य पर चर्चा की।

सेमिनार के शैक्षणिक सत्र में, जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया में एमएमएजे एकेडमी ऑफ इंटरनेशनल स्टडीज के प्रोफेसर मोहम्मद सोहराब ने:अफगानिस्तानः पुरानी और समकालीन साम्राज्यवादी सोच में एक अमर मोहरा’ शीर्षक से एक प्रस्तुति दी।

आईसीडब्ल्यूए, नई दिल्ली के डॉ. फजलुर रहमान सिद्दीकी ने ‘तालिबान 2.0 के दो सालः इसका अतीत और वर्तमान’ पर चर्चा की, जबकि प्रोफेसर एम. वसीम राजा ने ‘मध्यकालीनवाद से आधुनिकतावाद तक अफगानिस्तान की यात्राः जनजातीयवाद, सुधार और एक अध्ययन’ विषय पर चर्चा की।

डॉ. फराह सैफ आबिदीन ने ‘आदिवासी समुदाय और मुगल राज्यः प्रतियोगिताएं, गठबंधन और काबुल में शाही संप्रभुता’ विषय पर एक पेपर प्रस्तुत किया, जबकि डॉ. सैफुल्ला सैफी ने ‘बुखारा में बोल्शेविक क्रांति, अमीर अलीम खान ने अफगानिस्तान के अमीर की भूमिका शीर्षक से एक प्रस्तुति दी।

जेएमआई, नई दिल्ली में भारत अरब सांस्कृतिक केंद्र के निदेशक प्रोफेसर नासिर रजा खान ने ‘ईरान और अफगानिस्तान के तैमूर वास्तुकला का इतिहास’ नामक एक प्रस्तुति में अपनी विशेषज्ञता साझा की।

प्रोफेसर गुलफिशां खान ने समापन भाषण दिया और सभी प्रतिभागियों को उनके बहुमूल्य योगदान के लिए आभार व्यक्त किया।

वीमेन्स कालिज में पोस्टर प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन

अलीगढ़, 06 सितंबरः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के विमेन्स कॉलेज में जी-20 कार्यक्रमों की श्रृंखला में ‘हरित पृथ्वी हेतु नवीकरण एवं पुनर्चक्रण’ (रिन्यू एण्ड रिसाइकिल फार ग्रीन प्लानेट) विषय पर पोस्टर प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन किया गया। प्रदर्शनी का उद्घाटन कॉलेज की प्राचार्या प्रो. नईमा खातून ने किया।

छात्राओं की रचनात्मक प्रतिभा की सराहना करते हुए प्राचार्या प्रो. खातून ने कहा कि अपनी जीवनशैली में छोटे-छोटे परिवर्तन लाकर ही हम पर्यावरण संरक्षण की दिशा में आगे बढ़ सकते हैं। दैनिक जीवन में गैर-नवीकरणीय संसाधनों के सावधानीपूर्वक उपयोग करने पर बल देते हुए उन्होंने इसे भविष्य की पीढ़ियों के लिए संरक्षित करने की बात कही।

विदित है कि भारत की जी-20 अध्यक्षता के उपलक्ष्य में विमेन्स कॉलेज में गत दिनों विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया गया। इसी की एक कड़ी के रूप में कॉलेज के फाइन आर्ट्स सेक्शन की ओर से पोस्टर प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन हुआ जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में छात्राओं ने प्रतिभागिता की। इसी के अंतर्गत चयनित कुछ श्रेष्ठ पोस्टरों को कॉलेज प्रांगण में प्रदर्शित किया गया। विभिन्न पोस्टरों के माध्यम से छात्राओं ने पृथ्वी को हरा-भरा और स्वच्छ बनाए रखने के उपाय बताए तथा पर्यावरण संरक्षण का संदेश दिया।

इस अवसर पर कॉलेज की प्राचार्या प्रो. नईमा खातून, डॉ. वसीम मुश्ताक वानी, डॉ. फराह सैफ, डॉ. बुशरा नसीम, डॉ. हिना मोईनी एवं अन्य शिक्षकों के अतिरिक्त बड़ी संख्या में छात्राओं ने सक्रिय भागीदारी सुनिश्चित की।

जेएन मेडिकल कालिज के आई बैंक द्वारा अतरौल में सेमिनार आयोजित

अलीगढ़, 06 सितंबरः राष्ट्रीय नेत्रदान पखवाड़ा के तहत जेएन मेडिकल कालिज के आप्थलमलोजी विभाग के आई बैंक द्वारा अतरौली में कृष्णा एण्ड श्रीराम मेमोरियल वैदिक इंटर कालिज में एक सेमिनार आयोजित किया गया जिसमें 500 से अधिक छात्र और शिक्षण और गैर-शिक्षण कर्मचारियों ने उत्साह से भाग लिए। डॉ. समीन मिर्ज़ा ने नेत्रदान के महत्व, कोर्नियल अंधापन के कारण, और दान की महत्वपूर्ण आवश्यकता पर जागरूकता बढ़ाने वाला एक जानकारीपूर्ण प्रस्तुति दी।

प्रोफेसर ए.के. अमितावा, निदेशक नेत्र चिकित्सा संस्थान ने नेत्रदान के महत्व को स्पष्ट किया। आई बैंक इंचार्ज डॉ. ज़िया सिद्दीक़ी ने सभी उपस्थित लोगों का शिविर के आयोजन में सहयोग के लिए आभार जताया। आई बैंक के सहायक इंचार्ज डा. मोहम्मद साकिब ने नेत्रदान में कमी के कारणों पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा कि मृत्यु के छह घंटों के भीतर नेत्रदान किया जा सकता है। उन्होंने इससे जुड़ी भ्रांतियों के बारे में भी बताया। स्कूल की प्रिन्सिपल पीके श्रौती, डा. महबूब, डा. रजी व सलीम भी इस अवसर पर मौजूद रहे।

जबकि जेएन मेडिकल कॉलेज और हॉस्पिटल के एमबीबीएस छात्रों द्वारा स्किट प्रस्तुत की गई। एएमयू के फाइन आट्र्स डिपार्टमेंट ने एक प्रभावशाली पोस्टरों का प्रदर्शन किया। इस कार्यक्रम की सफलता में विभागाध्यक्ष डा. तलत शकील, अब्दुर रहमान व डॉ. साकिब, श्री सलीम, डॉ. राज़ी, डॉ. मेहबूब, हंसिका सक्सेना, और श्री अहमद ने महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।

नेत्रदान पखवाड़े के तहत जेएन मेडिकल कालिज में भी पोस्टर मेकिंग प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में छात्र व छात्राओं ने भाग लिया।

AMU announces essay competition on Sir Syed’s Influence on Language and Literature

 

ALIGARH September 2: The Aligarh Muslim University has announced the annual All India Essay Writing Competition for university and college students on "Sir Syed’s Influence on Language and Literature" in English, Hindi and Urdu.

AMU Public Relations Officer, Mr Omar Saleem Peerzada said that the competition is being held in three languages, English, Urdu and Hindi and the first, second and third prizes will be given in three languages separately.

He said that the students interested in participating in the Hindi and Urdu essay competitions, can write their essays on "Bhasha Evam Sahitya Par Sir Syed Ka Prabhav" and "Zabaan-o-Adab Par Sir Syed Ke Asraat", respectively.

The essay writing competition is open for bonafide students of all Indian universities and colleges. However, students up to Class XII are not eligible to participate in the competitions", he added.

There are three cash prizes in each language, first prize for Rs. 25,000/-, second for Rs. 15,000/- and third for Rs. 10,000/- and the winners will be felicitated in the Sir Syed Day commemorative meeting on October 17.
