AMU celebrates the 75th Republic Day
Prof Gulrez, however, pointed out that what distinguishes a ‘democratic constitution’ is its pledge to establish a ‘Rule of Law’ and to protect individual dignity and establish social solidarity.
Underlining the significance of transforming the words into action, he said that the notion of ‘Equality before law’ is meaningless if mob justice is the norm in the society, the idea of a welfare state has no meaning if there is a growing divide between the rich and the poor, and the fraternity has no significance in the absence of toleration and accommodation.
He said that the Aligarh Muslim University as an institution identifies itself with the country’s constitutional principles and its democratic ideals and it has done its bit in the educational upliftment and social empowerment of the people of India. Its students are flagbearers of Sir Syed’s vision and brand ambassadors of India’s growth story.
He urged the students to take a pledge to preserve the sanctity of the Indian Constitution in letter and spirit, and work for the safeguarding of India’s freedom, unity and solidarity by every means.
The Vice Chancellor later distributed prizes to the winners of the Mini Marathon organized by the Athletics Club, University Games Committee. The students of Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged, who won the ‘Half Marathon Race for Unity’ in the Girl’s and Boy’s events, also received prizes.
On the occasion, Prof Gulrez with his wife, Prof Naima Khatoon planted tree saplings to mark the occasion and visited students admitted in the University Health Service (UHS) to inquire about their health. They distributed fruits to the admitted students.
University students, Sumrana Muzaffar (B.Sc.) and Shahan Usmani (MBBS) also delivered speeches.
The flag hoisting ceremony was conducted by the Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS), who also administered the Integrity Oath.
The university witnessed celebrations in all offices, faculties, colleges, departments and schools. The National Flag was also unfurled at the Administrative Block Building, Vice Chancellor's Lodge, Maualana Azad Library, Faculty of Arts, all schools and colleges of the University, all offices of the Deans and DSW, all Provost Offices and the Proctor's Office.
Earlier in the day, a Prabhat Pheri programme was organized by STS School for boys and by Abdullah Hall for girls.
The Department of Urdu organized a Mushaira (poetic evening) on the intervening night of January 25 and 26, with the Vice Chancellor, Prof Gulrez presiding over the proceedings of Mushaira.

Ah! Ek Chiragh aur Bujh Gaya
Aah, Chowdhry Sharfuddin Advocate nahin rahe!
UP ki Rajdhani Lucknow sarzameen ki Mashhoor aur Maroof Shakhsiyat, Mulk w Millat ki Taleemi Taraqqi, Samaji Behtri, Muashi Khushhali, Roohani Shakhsiyaat ki Pazeerai Khidmaat, Mehman Nawazi jaisi bahut si khoobiyon ka malik Chaudhry Sharfuddin Advocate nahin rahe.
Shaam 5 baje January 6, 2024 ko aakhiri saans le. 8pm ko baad Namaz Ishan Nematullah Building, Aminabaad mein pehli aur 8.30pm ko Aish Bagh mein doosri Namaz Janaza Zammeghafeer ki maujoodgi mein parhai gayi.
W oh apni jeb se kharch kar Sukoon, Rahat aur Khushian hasil karte the.
Is nisbat se bhi woh mujhe espacial Mohabbat aur Shafqat, Duaon se nawazte the.
199-92 mein Muslim Musafirkhana mein UP Rabita Committee ki meeting hui jis mein Chaudhry Sharfuddin Advocate sb ne sab se pehle Rs.10,000 pesh kiye aur tai kiya ki aindah meeting mere ghar par hi hua karengi. Uske baad ham sab logon ne maali taawun dena shuru kiya, yani ki KARE KHAIR shuru karne ka “ Sadqaa e Jariya” ka sawab Sharfuddin sb ko milta rahega.
Salana jalse se pehle Sharfuddin sb ne mujhe dikhaya ki hamare ghareeb khane mein mehmanan ke theharne keliye kya intzamat karne chahiyen?
Mein ne sab dekha aur bataya ki sab theek hai sirf Toilet mein English seat lagwa dejiye Kyonki Saiyid sb, Col. Rasool sb aur Buzurg saheban English seat pasand karte hain unhone foran intzam kar diye aur Saiyid sb aur unke rufaqa ke theharne par unki Khushi ka koi thikana nahin tha. Aaj bhi mere samne unka Khanda peshani aur muskurata hua chehra yaad aa raha hai.
Unke ghar par ek yadgar Mango Party, Sharfuddin sb ke Damad Badar bhai ki zere qyadat “AAM ka Nauroz hota tha jismein har qism ka Aam, Sharbat, aur har qism ka lazeez khane hote the. Is mehfil mein do party ban jati theen aur phir Shero-Shayery, Baitbazi hoti thi. Ghalib, Meer, Faiz, waghaira ke ashaar aur Qisse bayan kiye jate aur wah wahi looti jaati.
Dono taraf se sher parha jata aur doosri taraf se uska jawab milta aur taliyan bajteen, Sab log Sherwani, Achkan, aur tareh tareh ki topiyan pahan kar mehfil ko khoobsoorat bana dete the.
Is bemisal, yadgar mehfil mein Mohammad Azam Khan, Mulayam Singh Yadav aur unki cabinet, Ahmad Hasan, MPs, MLAs, Administrative Servents, DGP Rizwan Ahmad, Advocate General UP Zafayyab Jeelani, LKO aur Allahabad, High Court ke wukla, IAS Officers, Namwer Shayerat w Shoura Hazrat Buzurganedeen, Tanzeemon ke zimmedaran, Shareek hote The.
Mein aur Mrs. Musafir khana thehar gaye the, Dopehar ka khana khakar ham unse milne gaye to naraz ho gaye aur mujhe Fridge dikhaya ki har waqt Chiken Qeema, khane ka sab saman bhara rehta hai. Yeh Allah ka fazal hai, Ismein aap Mehmanan ka bhi HAQ w hissa hota hai. 15 minutes mein dastarkhwan saj jata hai. Aap hamare Bulanjdshahar ke apne ho bejhijhak aajaya karo. Hamein aapke na aane se pareshani hogi, Apke aane se to khushi hogi, Ham safar nahin kar sakte, Aapse sab logon ki jankari, hal chal pata chal jaata hai.
Unki beti bhi bahut Khushmijaz, Ghareebparwer, Rehamdil, Mehmanawaz, Lukhnow aur Siyana mein apne Abbu ki sajai mehfil mein Lazeez Khane khilakar char chand laga deti theen, sab ka khyal rakhti theen.
Ek baar mein Badar ul Islam sb ka Election larhane gaya aur raat ko Siyana mein hi thehar gaya.
Musalman Urdu ko farogh dene mein kitni koshish kar rahe hain, Unke ghar pata nahin kitne akhbar, Risale, Mujalle, Kitabche, Kitaon ki Post aati thi sab ko yaad karke chanda khushi khushi diya karte the. Mein sochta tha ki Urdu ko farogh to aap inhen khareedkar kar de rahe hain.
Itni barhi Shakhsiyat, Senior Buzurg hote hue bhi zayada din khairiyat n milne par, aur Kabhi kabhi khairiyat maloom karne, Khusoosan EID par Phone bhi aa jata tha aur mein sharminda ho jata tha ki ham se khairiyat maloom karne mein der kyon ho gayi?
Allah taala se unki maghfirat ki Dua hai. Allah unke jaane anjane mein ho gaye Gunahon ko muaf farma, Unko Jannatul Firdos mein jageh ata farma. Unke warseen ko Sabr ata farma. Ham sabko unki Naimul Badal ata farma. Aameen!
