भूविज्ञान के छात्रों ने विश्वविद्यालय का नाम रोशन किया

 




        अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के भूविज्ञान विभाग के छात्र फारिस बेग को प्रतिष्ठित इरास्मस मुंडस छात्रवृत्ति के पुरस्कार के साथ-साथ प्लैनेटरी जियोसाइंसेज (जियोप्लैनेट-ईएमजेएम) में इरास्मस मुंडस संयुक्त मास्टर कार्यक्रम के लिए चुना गया है।

विभागाध्यक्षप्रोफेसर कुंवर फराहिम खान ने कहा कि बेग कार्यक्रम के पहले सेमेस्टर की पढ़ाई यूनिवर्सिटा डी कोयम्बरा (पुर्तगाल)दूसरे सेमेस्टर की पढ़ाई यूनिवर्सिटा डी’ अन्नुंजियो डी चिएटी-प्रेसकारा (इटली) मेंतीसरे सेमेस्टर की पढ़ाई नैनटेस यूनिवर्सिट (फ्रांस) में और चैथे सेमेस्टर की पढ़ाई किसी सहयोगी संगठन (विश्व स्तर पर) में करेंगे।

उन्हें पीसा विश्वविद्यालय में एमएस जियोफिजिक्स में आगे की शिक्षा के लिए प्रतिष्ठित इन्वेस्ट योर टैलेंट इन इटली’ छात्रवृत्ति और रोम ला सैपिएन्जा विश्वविद्यालय से एक इंस्टॉलेशन अनुदान’ के प्रस्ताव भी मिले हैं और इनलैक्स छात्रवृत्ति अनुदान के लिए शॉर्टलिस्ट किया गया था।

इसके अलावा भूविज्ञान विभाग के ही पांच छात्रों ने संघ लोक सेवा आयोग द्वारा आयोजित भर्ती परीक्षा और साक्षात्कार में सफलता हासिल करने के बादभारत सरकार के खान मंत्रालय के भूवैज्ञानिक सर्वेक्षण में सहायक भूविज्ञानी के पद के लिए अर्हता प्राप्त की है। प्रो फराहिम खान ने बताया कि सफल छात्रों में मोहम्मद कासिम रजामसारुल इस्लाममोहम्मद साकिबहिलाल अली और मोहम्मद ताहिर खान शामिल हैं।

अलीगढ़ 31 जुलाईः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम यूनिवर्सिटी के जवाहरलाल नेहरू मेडिकल कॉलेज के राजीव गांधी सेंटर फॉर डायबिटीज़ एंड एंडोक्रिनोलॉजी के निदेशकडाक्टर हामिद अशरफ ने अलीगढ़ मेनोपॉज सोसाइटी द्वारा आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में रजोनिवृति ऑस्टियोपोरोसिस पर व्याख्यान दिया।

डॉ. अशरफ ने पोस्टमेनोपॉजल और सेनील ऑस्टियोपोरोसिसइसके लक्षणोंरोकथाम और नियमित व्यायाम के साथ स्वस्थ जीवन शैली और संतुलित आहार की आवश्यकता के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि यह प्रक्रिया महिलाओं में 45 से 50 वर्ष की उम्र के आस पास होती है और महिलाओं में ऑस्टियोपोरोटिक हिप फ्रैक्चर के होने का जोखिम के साथ स्तनगर्भाशय और डिम्बग्रंथि कैंसर विकसित होने की संभावना भी बढ़ जाती है।

उन्होंने कहा कि दुनिया भर में दो सौ मिलियन और भारत में लगभग 50 मिलियन लोग ऑस्टियोपोरोसिस से पीड़ित हैं और वर्ष 2050 तक हर दूसरा ऑस्टियोपोरोटिक फ्रैक्चर से प्रभावित व्यक्ति एशिया में होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि ऑस्टियोपोरोसिस एक साइलेंट किलर है और ऑस्टियोपोरोटिक फ्रैक्चर वाले मरीजों में रुग्णता और मृत्यु दर अधिक होती है। हिप फ्रैक्चर वाले लगभग 20-30 प्रतिश्ज्ञत मरीज एक वर्ष के भीतर मर जाते हैंऔर 5 वर्षों में मृत्यु दर 50 प्रतिशत से अधिक होती है।

डाक्टर अशरफ ने उम्ररजोनिवृत्तिग्लूकोकार्टोइकोड्स जैसी दवाएंएंटीपीलेप्टिक दवाएंआनुवंशिक कारककैल्शियम और विटामिन डी की कमीहाइपोगोनाडिज्ममधुमेह और मैलाबॉस्पशन सिंड्रोम सहित फ्रैक्चर के कई जोखिम कारकों पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा कि ऑस्टियोपोरोसिस के निदान के लिए डेक्सा स्कैन सहित विभिन्न नैदानिक तरीकों का उपयोग किया जा सकता है।

उन्होंने ऑस्टियोपोरोटिक फ्रैक्चर को रोकने के औषधीय और गैर-औषधीय तरीकों के बारे में भी बात की।

JMI’s refurbished Ansari Auditorium

 

JMI’s  refurbished Ansari Auditorium once again ready for programmes

Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditorium, the main auditorium of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been refurbished and is ready for organisation of events. The auditorium was established in the year 1990 and it was closed for the last few months for renovation. With the efforts of the JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) the auditorium has been refurbished and has been upgraded with new foldable movie theatre like chairs, new carpets, new sound system and new stage flooring.

JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar expressed her happiness on the occasion and congratulated Jamia fraternity for the reopening of the auditorium.  She said that several beautiful memories of students and staff are associated with this place and due to maintenance work organisation of events inside the auditorium was on hold. “They were missing the place but they can now have a much better experience inside the auditorium with comfortable chairs and better sound & light system”, said the Vice Chancellor.

 Naheed Abidi

Dr. Naheed Abidi, 59, is an Indian scholar of Sanskrit and writer. She was honoured by the Government of India, in 2014, by bestowing on her the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for her contributions to the field of literature.
Ms. Abidi was born in 1961, in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Choosing Sanskrit as her subject, Abidi secured her MA from the K. V. Degree College, Mirzapur. She went on to secure a doctoral degree (PhD) from the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi and published her thesis titled as Vedic Sahitya Mein Ashviniyon Ka Swaroop (The Form of Ashvinis in Vedic Literature) in 1993. She has also been conferred DLitt (Honoris Causa) by the Lucknow University. Dr. Abidi also serves as an Executive Council member at the Sampurnanad Sanskrit University.
In 2005, Abidi started working as a lecturer without any pay at Banaras Hindu University. Soon after, she joined the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith to work as a part-time lecturer on a daily wage scheme. However, the Sanskrit scholar,known as the first Muslim female to have worked as a lecturer in Sanskrit, had difficulties finding a regular job.
Her first book was published in 2008 and was titled Sanskrit Sahitya Mein Rahim - which is an account of the Sanskrit leanings of the renowned poet, Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana. This was followed by Devalayasya Deepa, a translation of Chairag-e-Dair, written by poet, Mirza Ghalib. The third book was Sirr-e-Akbar, a Hindi translation of 50 Upanishads, earlier translated by the Mughal prince, Dara Shikoh into Persian. She has published a Hindi translation of Vedanta, translated into Persian by Dara Shikoh and also the Sufi texts by the prince.

Dr. Shireen Moosvi, 72, is an acclaimed author, a renowned historian and former Professor of History at the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.


Born in Lucknow, U.P., Shireen has an impeccable academic record and proudly wears many feathers to her cap. From earning double Masters in Mathematics and in History to obtaining Ph.D in History after teaching Mathematics at the Karamat Hussain College, Lucknow, Shireen has defied the then prevalent stereotypes in research. She went on to become a Senior Full Bright Fellow (USA) (1983-84), was awarded Residency at Bellagio Centre, Milan, Italy by the Rockefeller Foundation, (1990- 91) and held the rare distinction of being at the helm of academic bureaucracy serving as the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences (2003-2005), Chairperson, Department of History, and Coordinator, Centre of Advanced Study in History (1997-99, 2004-05) and Director at the Centre for Women's Studies, Aligarh Muslim University.
With four books titled, “Capitalism, Colonialism and Globalization: Studies in Economic Change”(2017), “Taxation, Trade and People in Mughal India (2008)”, “Episodes in the Life of Akbar Contemporary Records and Reminiscences(1994)”, “The Mughal Empire, c. 1595: A Statistical Study (1987)” , one edited book “Facets of the Great Rebellion, 1857 (2009)” , two monograms and more than a hundred research papers to her credit, Shireen stands tall in the world of historians and archaeologists.

Dr. Azarmi Dukht Safavi (born 1948) is an Indian scholar, founding director of the Institute of Persian Research and the head of the Persian Language Research Center at Aligarh Muslim University, known internationally as the Center of Advanced Persian Research. Dr. Safavi was instrumental in the establishment in 2006 of the Institute on Persian at Aligarh Muslim University and is currently its Founder-Director. The Institute is focused on developing Persian language and literature.
Dr. Safavi has served as the Dean Faculty of Arts, Head Persian Department, Director Persian Research Institute and Member Raza Library Board, Director General Education Centre, Member Editorial Board Encyclopedia, Persian Academy Iran. Azarmi is also the president of the All India Persian Teachers’ Association, New Delhi, and the editor of the magazine Ghand Parsi.
Azarmi has received several awards including the President of India Award for exemplary contribution to Persian studies, Life Time Achievement Award and Saadi Aaward by Iranian Government and the Ghalib Award.
Dr. Safavi has published 25 books and over 175 paper. She was recipient of the Tagore National Fellowship Awarded by Culture Ministry and has done international projects done with Smithsonian Institute, U.S.A. She has organized more than 30 international conferences and is the founder secretary of Vision Educational Society.
After completing her primary and secondary education, Dr. Safavi joined Aligarh Muslim University to pursue higher studies in Persian. She completed her B.A. in 1966, M.A. in 1968, and Ph.D. in Persian in 1974. The topic of her Ph.D. thesis was "Sadi as a Humanist and Lyricist".
After finishing her Ph.D., Dr. Safavi was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Persian, where she taught as a professor for 32 years. She speaks Persian, English, Urdu, and Hindi. Dr. Safavi imbibed the Persian language from her family. Her great grandfather Nawab Wali, was a prolific writer and author of more than 20 books in Persian. Her father, Mohammad Sadiq Safavi, was her first Persian teacher and inspired her to study the language.

Dr. Sabra Habib, a Russian Language Expert, is a Professor Emeritus in the department of English and Modern European Languages, Lucknow University, Uttar Pradesh. She has also interpreted, translated, and taught Russian language at HAL to the Engineers, and at Bhartendu Natya Academy for more than two decades. She has been the former chairperson of the standing committee of minority education under Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and has made a significant contribution in the field of women education.

Ms. Habib did her Master’s and Doctorate from the People’s Friendship University, Moscow, Russia, after obtaining a Master’s degree in English and Diploma in Russian language from Lucknow University. She came back to Lucknow University in 1981 and began her career as a teaching faculty in the Department of Russian Studies. Her book in Hindi script Aao Roosi Seekhein, published by Peoples Publishing House, is a unique effort in the field of Russian Language learning. In all, she has penned around ten books.Ms. Habib won the Pushkin Award in Moscow (1991) by the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL) for her services to the Russian language. She was also honoured with the prestigious UP Ratan Award by All India Conference of Intellectuals. She also received Upbhokta Shree Award (2011) by Bharat Jyoti, an organisation engaged in elevating the downtrodden, destitute, and poor.Sabra has also started an NGO, ‘Natasha Polycraft and Education Centre’ in 1995 for the underprivileged and poor women of all castes and creed, in order to train them in handicraft and educate them free of cost.

Professor Bushra Ateeq

Dr. Bushra Ateeq is an Associate Professor and Senior Fellow of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Her research interest revolves around molecular oncology.
After receiving her Ph.D from the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Bushra worked as a Research Associate at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. She holds the distinction of being trained as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan’s Group at Michigan Center for Translational Pathology, University of Michigan and the Postdoctoral Trainee in Dr. Shafaat Rabbani’s Group at McGill University, Montreal.
A proud Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Awardee, Bushra credits her success to her mother who instilled in her the ability to develop a right attitude, resilience and grit. Bushra initially tried her luck in the Indian Air Force before becoming a doyen in the world of science. She finds science liberating, as it allows her to passionately pursue research questions of her choice, brainstorm ideas with her team members, and keep her childlike inquisitiveness alive.

Professor Qudsia Tahseen

Dr. Qudsia Tahseen, Professor of Zoology at Aligarh Muslim University, is recognized for her extensive research on biodiversity, taxonomy, ecology and developmental biology of terrestrial and aquatic nematodes and has made remarkable contribution in the field of Nematology following a holistic approach.
Professor Tahseen’s critical analyses of species supplemented with electron microscopic details were commended by peers and her wide taxonomic skills have been accredited internationally. She remains so far the only Asian to receive ONTA (Organization of Nematologists of Tropical America) Special Award for sustained excellence in Nematology which she received in 2005. Qudsia has also conducted pioneering studies in India on nematode development while her ecological findings led to the understanding of shifts in subterranean food web.
Professor Tahseen has been invited to reputed labs of Europe and America under prestigious fellowships of Royal Society, Rothamsted International, INSA, DBT, TWAS, TWOWS, DFG, Chinese Academy of Sciences, European Union Consortium, and Australian Academy of Science, Max Planck Institute etc. for collaborative research or to teach/ guide post-graduate students at Erasmus Mundus and EUMAINE programmes.
She has the distinction of being the only women faculty of Aligarh Muslim University to be the fellow of all three coveted National Science academies, INSA, IASc and NASI. Coincidentally at present she is the only AMU faculty to hold this honour. Her biography has been included in “Lilawati’s Daughters-Top Hundred Women Scientists of India” published by Indian Academy of Sciences and in “The Girl’s Guide to a Life in Science” by Young Zubaan Publishers (One of the 23 selected biographies of renowned Indian Women Scientists to encourage young girls to opt for a science career).
Professor Tahseen is currently serving as the visitor nominee of Maulana Azad National Urdu University. She is the member of the National committee of International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). She has also served/ serving as an expert in INSA Sectional Committee, PAC of SERB, New Delhi, PAC of CSIR, New Delhi, Sectional Committee expert in Indian Academy of Sciences. Serving at many Boards and Technical Committees, she has also been a part of the Curriculum revision committee of University Grants Commission.
Professor Tahseen’s schooling was from Azamgarh. She moved to Aligarh to pursue higher education in Zoology from Aligarh Muslim University. She completed her M. Sc. in Zoology and was awarded a Babar Mirza Inayat Ali Gold Medal. She also completed her Diploma in Statistics with a gold medal. Dr. Tahseen received her PhD in Zoology in 1989 and has been working as a faculty at AMU since 1992.
