जेएमआई पिछले वर्ष से 32 रैंक के सुधार के साथ एशिया में 128वें स्थान पर पहुंचा

 

जामिया की रैंक- लंदन बेस्ड टाइम्स हायर एजुकेशन (टीएचई) एशिया यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग-2023 में इम्प्रूव

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया (जेएमआई) ने लंदन बेस्ड टाइम्स हायर एजुकेशन (टीएचई) एशिया यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग-2023 में देश के शीर्ष 10 संस्थानों में प्रवेश करके एक और उपलब्धि हासिल की है। विश्वविद्यालय उल्लेखनीय सुधार के साथ एशिया में 128वें स्थान पर पहुंच गया है। पिछले साल की तुलना में यह 160वें स्थान में 32 रैंक के सुधार के साथ 128वें स्थान पर पहुंचा है। 32 रैंक के सुधार के साथ, जामिया देश के उन चुनिंदा संस्थानों में से एक है, जिसने रैंकिंग में असाधारण प्रदर्शन किया है।

 

टाइम्स हायर एजुकेशन एशिया यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग ने वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग के 13 प्रदर्शन संकेतकों/मापदंडों पर 31 देशों के 669 विश्वविद्यालयों के प्रदर्शन का आकलन किया, लेकिन उन्हें एशिया के संस्थानों की विशेषताओं को प्रतिबिंबित करने के लिए पुन: कैलिब्रेट किया गया।

 

व्यापक और संतुलित तुलना करने के लिए विश्वविद्यालयों को उनके सभी मुख्य मिशनों - शिक्षण, अनुसंधान, ज्ञान हस्तांतरण और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दृष्टिकोण - के आधार पर आंका गया।

 

जामिया विश्व की विश्वविद्यालय रैंकिंग में भी लगातार अपनी रैंक बनाए हुए है। हाल ही में घोषित द वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग- 2021 में इसे 601-800 वां स्थान दिया गया था।

 

इस प्रदर्शन से उत्साहित जामिया की कुलपति प्रोफेसर नजमा अख्तर (पद्मश्री) ने कहा, “यह पूरे जामिया समुदाय के लिए बहुत गर्व और संतुष्टि की बात है क्योंकि यह उपलब्धि शिक्षकों, गैर-शिक्षण कर्मचारियों और अन्य लोगों द्वारा की गई कड़ी मेहनत को दर्शाती है। हमारे प्रयासों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मान्यता मिली है और मुझे उम्मीद है कि विश्वविद्यालय आने वाले वर्षों में अपने प्रदर्शन को और बेहतर बनाने के प्रयास जारी रखेगा।''

 

गौरतलब है कि जामिया पिछले कुछ वर्षों में अपनी राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रैंकिंग में लगातार सुधार कर रहा है। विश्वविद्यालय ने न केवल शिक्षा मंत्रालय (एमओई) द्वारा जारी नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूशनल रैंकिंग फ्रेमवर्क (एनआईआरएफ) इंडिया रैंकिंग-2023 में विश्वविद्यालयों के बीच तीसरी रैंक बरकरार रखी, बल्कि समग्र श्रेणी में अपने प्रदर्शन में 13वें स्थान से 12वां स्थान हासिल किया।

 

जामिया ने अक्टूबर, 2022 में जारी टाइम्स हायर एजुकेशन (टीएचई) वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग-2023 में भी अपनी स्थिति में सुधार किया। वैश्विक स्तर पर, जामिया पिछले वर्ष की रैंकिंग में 601-800 से 501-600 रैंकिंग बैंड पर पहुंच गया। विश्वविद्यालय ने लंदन स्थित क्यूएस यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग एजेंसी द्वारा जारी क्यूएस एशिया यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग-2022 में भी अपनी स्थिति में सुधार किया, जहां यह पिछले साल 203 से अपनी स्थिति में सुधार करते हुए 186वें स्थान पर रहा।

Symposium on #G20 Organised at AMU

        Aligarh, June 26: In the series of events and programmes celebrating India’s G20 Presidency, the Sir Syed Academy, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized a symposium wherein speakers delineated the major theme and concerns of G20 forum and the role of India in taking up the issues of the local and global concern on behalf of the developing countries. An introductory book in Urdu entitled “G20 –Ek Taaruf” by Dr Asad Faisal Farooqui was also released on the occasion for raising awareness about G20 and relevance of India’s Presidency.

Presiding over the symposium, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, Vice Chancellor, AMU said that G20 gives access to developing and developed countries to come together and devise pragmatic strategies to work on sustainability, climate change, food security, conflict resolution and other issues faced by the world. “We have to make a pledge for posterity and promote dialogues among nations for solving problems faced by humanity and resolving disputes among nations”, Prof Gulrez urged.

He said that India is home to philosophies that emphasise brotherhood and co-existence and the theme of the G20 Summit is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means the entire world is truly just one family.

Prof Gulrez also mentioned the thesis of ‘clash of civilizations’ propounded by Hutington in 1993, calling it a dangerous philosophy. “The concerns of the world are the same for every country and nation and dialogue is the only way out for reaching mutually beneficial conclusions” he emphasized.

The Chief Guest of the symposium, Prof Aquil Ahmad, Director, NCPUL, New Delhi said that India’s rich philosophy offers solutions to the problems of mankind. “The world is facing problems including climate change, poverty, depletion of resources and war etc., and India can play a role in resolving them”, he said.

Prof Ahmad described the relevance of the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” in detail and what it means for the word.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Registrar, AMU spoke about the need to contribute for the success of the programmes like Mission LiFE, Swachh Bharat Mission etc. and briefed about the activities undertaken by the university including organizing awareness marches, safeguarding water bodies and plantation drives.

“India’s G20 Presidency is an opportunity for us to take a start on mission mode and collaborate with G20 on learning and topics of mutual interest”, AMU Registrar said.

Speaking on the theme, Prof Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of English, AMU said, India has strong soft power, which includes art, literature, philosophy and culture. This soft power can exert great influence and shape the world order in different ways. He mentioned several thinkers and philosophers who have influenced the world. “Social sciences and literature offer important perspectives to question things and generate a new thinking which leads us to go beyond our narrow concerns”, he added.

Prof Mohibul Haq, Department of Political Science, AMU pointed out that India’s G20 Presidency is a moment of pride for us and there is a lot of hope since India can speak for the global south on issues like poverty and hunger. He critically analysed various dimensions of G20 and how capitalism, and neoliberalism are shaping the world order.

“In the backdrop of the struggle for power and dominance, India through G20 is trying to highlight that cooperation is the key and peace has to travel beyond the Middle East and Latin America” he said.

Prof Haq also praised India’s foreign policy by mentioning that India did not abandon Russia when NATO imposed sanctions on it in the wake of Ukraine invasion.

Highlighting the usefulness of the monograph on G20 in Urdu, Prof Shafey Kidwai, Department of Mass Communication, AMU said that Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of AMU launched Aligarh Institute Gazette in 1866 and wrote on international relations, the ideas of John Stuart Mill, an influential English philosopher of the nineteenth century and other such topics. “The publication of an Urdu monograph on G20 is the continuation of the tradition started by Sir Syed for enlightening oriental languages readers”, he said.

Prof Razaullah Khan, former Principal, ZHCET, AMU added a note of caution saying that G20 should not remain a club of rich and powerful countries. “Instead, the focus should be on raising the concerns of the poor countries which remain under-represented in the international forums and have no say on issues related to their livelihood and exploitation of natural resources'', he said, urging to maintain equilibrium and balance on earth and utilization of resources.

Earlier, welcoming the guests and speakers, Prof Ali Mohammad Naqvi, Director, Sir Syed Academy said that 80 percent of the world economy is rotated through G20 countries. “Today the economic power has more value and weight as the world is becoming multipolar and the monopoly of traditional powers is withering away. In this context G20 is a big forum for international cooperation and collaborations”, Prof Naqvi highlighted.

He informed that in the series of 5 monographs on G20, the first monograph by Asad Faisal Faooqui is being released today. 

Proposing a vote of thanks, Dr. Mohammad Shahid, Deputy Director, Sir Syed Academy said that ‘G20 - Sir Syed Memorial Lecture’ and an international seminar on G20 will be organized in the month of July and August 2023 respectively.

JMI VC receives NCC Band Instruments in an official ceremony

 The official ceremony for handing over of Band instruments to National Cadet Corps, Jamia Millia Islamia was held on May 23, 2023 in the Administrative Block premises of JMI.

 

The Additional Director General NCC, Delhi Directorate, Maj Gen S P Vishwasrao, SM** handed over the Band instruments to hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar, Colonel Commandant, National Cadet Corps, Jamia Millia Islamia. The Band instruments given to NCC, JMI, comprised of Bagpipes, Pipe chanter reeds, practice chanters, brass drums, tenor drums, side drums, brass drum stand and several other instruments associated with the Pipe Band. This newly acquired Pipe Band instruments have enhanced the capacity of the existing Band Troop of NCC, JMI.

 

The Hony. Coordinator NCC, Prof. Tasneem Meenai and the Associate NCC Officers and Care Taker Officers of NCC, JMI welcomed Prof. Najma Akhtar, hon’ble Vice Chancellor on her arrival. The NCC cadets gave the ceremonial welcome to the hon’ble Vice Chancellor. This was followed by a Quarter Guard to the Additional Director General NCC, Delhi Directorate, Maj Gen S P Vishwasrao, SM**

 

The ceremony to hand over band instruments was attended by Group Captain Kumar Desh Deepak, Group Commander, HQ Group ‘C’ (NCC) Delhi Directorate, Col Abdul Basit A Hangal, Commanding Officer of 4 DBN and Capt (IN) Nalin K. Mishra, the Commanding Officer of 2 Delhi Naval Unit, NCC. The ceremony was also attended by the Deans of various faculties as well as the Dean, Students’ Welfare and other officials of the university.

 

Prof. Najma Akhtar thanked Maj Gen SP Vishwasrao SM ** for giving  immense support to the National Cadet Corps in Jamia Millia Islamia and expressed her hope that the Band instruments will enhance the capacity of our NCC cadets and that other talented students of the University would also gain from the opportunity to learn and play the band on ceremonial occasions in the University and in important national events. The ADG NCC Delhi Dte. also paid a visit to the NCC parade ground and was shown a demonstration of rock climbing by NCC cadets. He, along with the Group Commander and the Commanding Officers, the Hony. Coordinator NCC and other NCC officers also inspected the University Firing Range and promised support in developing the necessary infrastructure to enhance the participation of Jamia students in NCC activities.

 

The Associate NCC officers of Jamia - Lt. Rajneesh Kumar, II/O Amtul Saba, III/O Hayat Alam and Care Taker Officers - Dr. Arif Mohammad, Dr. Amit Kumar and Dr. Ataur Rahman, former senior NCC cadets, NCC office staff, and NCC cadets from the Army and Navy, Senior and Junior Division / Wing, participated very enthusiastically to make the programme successful.

 

 

University of Pennsylvania, USA delegation visits JMI

 

A twenty-member delegation from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia led by Dr. Peter Eckel, Director of Leadership Programme and Co-Director, Penn Project on University Governance visited Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The delegation had an interaction with JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri), Deans, faculty members and selected students of the university at Mir Taqi Mir Hall, JMI. The delegation engaged with JMI faculty and students to learn about student experiences, quality and social relevance & faculty work and research and also looked for possible academic tie-ups. Dr. Alok Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary, AIU was also present during the programme.

 

The other important members of the delegation were Dr. Larry Moneta, Adjunct Professor and Dr. Damani White-Lewis, Assistant Professor of Higher Education. A very diverse group of university executives drawn from various universities enrolled in the Executive Directorate Programme of the University of Pennsylvania were also part of this delegation.

 

After formally welcoming the delegation, JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar said that the university has been benchmarking its teaching and research processes by increasing its interface with foreign educational institutions through faculty exchange, student exchange, joint research, joint conference and joint publication and internationalizing the university is being given top priority.

 

The Vice Chancellor further said “I’m very confident that the visit of this delegation will enable us to explore and develop a sustainable collaborative partnership with University of Pennsylvania in areas of academic and research convergences. JMI and UPenn can come together for Twinning, Dual and Joint Degree Programmes”.

 

The delegation discussed areas of students experience, quality and social relevance and faculty work & research with JMI teachers and students. Six groups were formed from both sides to have a more focused and detailed discussion on these lines. After the discussion, the delegation visited Central Instrumentation Facility, AJK-Mass Communication Research Centre, NAMK Pataudi Sports Complex and Premchand Achieves & Literary Centre (Museum).

 

After giving a brief introduction of the University of Pennsylvania and its current status, Dr. Peter Eckel said that the university is looking forward to have tie-ups with Indian institutions including JMI. The University of Pennsylvania is having a long term increasing interest in engaging with India.

 

University of Pennsylvania, popularly known as UPenn is a private Ivy League research university in Philadelphia, one of the oldest institutions of higher education in US was established in 1749. The University’s founder and first president was Benjamin Franklin who incidentally was one of the signatories of US Declaration of Independence.

यह सब उन कोशिशों का नतीजा है जो हाल ही में कुछ इदारों और दर्दमंदों ने की हैं। जितनी कोशिश होगी उतनी ही कामयाबी हासिल होगी। हालात साज़गार न होते हुए भी कोशिश करने वाले अपना हक़ अदा कर रहे हैं। हक़ीक़त यह है कि हालात भी कोशिशों से ही बदले जा सकते हैं। अगर उम्मीद ज़िंदा है तो कोशिश जारी रहेगी और फिर कामयाबी क़दम चूमेगी। मायूसी का नतीजा सिफ़र है और उम्मीद का नतीजा कामयाबी।

Bhikampur Gate: :--A.M.U Aligarh

 This apparently 18th century Gate originally belonged to the Mughal Fort at Agra.

When the British authorities in 1833 auctioned off valuable material from the fort,

it was purchased by Daud Khan , son of Baz Khan , who put it up on his family Estate

at Bhikampur in 1835. Abdus Saboor Khan Sherwani a descendant of Daud Khan presented it to the University in 1961, and it was installed at the present site in 1963.
