India’s G20 Presidency C elebrations: JMI organises Public Extension Lecture on ‘Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life’

 

 The Department of Geography, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a Special Public Extension Lecture on ‘Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life’ as part of India’s G20 Presidency celebrations at the university.. The lecture was delivered by Dr S.D. Attri, Member- Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas, Government of India on 29 th March 2023 from 10.00 AM to 11.30 AM in the Seminar Hall, D/o Geography, JMI.

The Head of Department, Prof. Haroon Sajjad, welcomed the Guests of the Program. Prof. Sajjad thanked JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) for taking the important initiative of celebrating India's G20 Presidency by organizing several academic and research programs including the Special G20 Lecture Series in the University. Prof. Atiqur Rahman, Chief Proctor, JMI also welcomed Dr. Attri. Coordinator-Extension Lecture, D/o Geography, Dr. Praveen Kumar Pathak, briefly introduced the distinguished speaker to the audience.

The distinguished guest, Dr. Attri appreciated the dynamic leadership of the JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) for inspiring and sharing India's G20 Presidency with the academicians and researchers across India and beyond. He also thanked Prof. Haroon Sajjad for the warm welcome and sharing strong academic and scientific collaboration between D/o Geography, JMI and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi over several years.

Dr. Attri highlighted the diverse issues and challenges ensuing the climate change and its drivers, particularly for the developing countries. For instance, weather, climate or water-related disasters have led to the loss of 115 people and caused damages worth US$ 202 million on a daily basis respectively. The number of disasters increased five-fold over the past 50 years, largely driven by human induced climate change, more extreme weather events and improved reporting. During 1970-2019, about 3500reporetd disasters led to nearly 1,000,000 deaths and economic loss of US$ 1.2 trillion.

Dr. Attri further underscored that India is among 10 most climate-induced disaster-prone areas in the world with nearly 65% of India’s population affected by heat waves, about 60 million people annually affected by floods, 316 million Indians in 225 most vulnerable districts by 2030. Therefore, building climate resilience to above climate vulnerable districts of India to survive, adapt, and thrive despite recurring disasters.

        अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के सामाजिक कार्य विभाग के 14 एमएसडब्लू छात्रों को कैंसर की रोकथाम और जागरूकता के क्षेत्र में काम करने वाली लखनऊ स्थित सामाजिक संस्था, कैंसर एड सोसाइटी द्वारा प्रोबेशनरी सहायक कार्यक्रम अधिकारी के रूप में चयनित किया गया है। ट्रेनिंग एंड प्लेसमेंट ऑफिस (जनरल) द्वारा आयोजित कैंपस प्लेसमेंट ड्राइव के माध्यम से चुने गए ये छात्र दिल्ली, मुंबई, कोलकाता और अहमदाबाद में काम करेंगे।

माणक पब्लिशर्स, नई दिल्ली द्वारा प्रकाशित डॉ. अबरार की पुस्तक में विख्यात विद्वान, डेविड लेलीवेल्ड ने प्रस्तावना लिखी है, जिसमें उन्होंने कहा है कि “डॉ. राहत अबरार ने वर्तमान भारत और एक अलग प्रकार की चुनौतियों के दृष्टिगत इन ग्रंथों को एक साथ लाकर और अपनी स्वयं की व्याख्या प्रस्तुत करके एक महत्वपूर्ण सेवा की है।

प्रोफेसर ए आर किदवई और प्रोफेसर शाफे किदवई ने भी पुस्तक पर संक्षिप्त टिप्पणियों के रूप में पुस्तक में योगदान दिया है।

JMI Research Scholar gets prestigious Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF)

 

Mr. Salman Khan, a PhD scholar in the Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) for January 2023 cycle. He is working under supervision of Dr. Syed Mansoor Ali, Department of Biotechnology, JMI to understand the role of microRNA in inflammation and sepsis induced acute lung injury.

 Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri), Vice Chancellor, JMI congratulated and wished good luck to Salman. She said “I hope that it will motivate other students of the university also do better.”

Salman would be getting a fellowship of Rs 70, 000 for the first two years, Rs 75,000 for third year, Rs.80, 000 for the fourth and fifth year. Apart from this, each student would also be getting a research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year, which amounts to a total of Rs 10 Lakhs for five years, under PMRF.

 

PMRF was introduced in the Union Budget of 2018 to 2019 with an aim to improve the quality of research at various higher educational institutions in the country.

अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के जवाहरलाल नेहरू मेडिकल कॉलेज के टीबी और छाती रोग विभाग द्वारा विश्व टीबी दिवस के उपलक्ष में एक सीएमई-सह-जागरूकता अभियान का आयोजन किया गया।
उद्घाटन समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए, प्रोफेसर वीणा महेश्वरी (डीन, चिकित्सा संकाय) ने तपेदिक के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा करने और टीबी के प्रबंधन के बारे में चिकित्सकों को अपडेट करने के महत्व पर बात की।
विश्व टीबी दिवस की इस वर्ष की थीम, ‘यस वी कैन एंड टीबी‘ पर प्रकाश डालते हुए, प्रोफेसर राकेश भार्गव (प्रिंसिपल, जेएनएमसी) ने टीबी के विभिन्न स्वरूपों के इलाज के लिए जेएनएमसी में उपलब्ध विभिन्न सुविधाओं पर बात की।
आयोजन प्रमुख और विभागाध्यक्ष, प्रोफेसर जुबैर अहमद ने प्रतिभागियों का स्वागत किया और विशेष रूप से कोविड-19 के प्रकोप के बाद टीबी की बढ़ती घटनाओं पर चिंता व्यक्त की।
उन्होंने कहा कि टीबी एण्ड चेस्ट ओपीडी में रोगी जागरूकता शिविर का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें मरीजों को क्षय रोग के उपचार की जानकारी दी गई।
डब्ल्यूएचओ सलाहकार, डॉ उमर अकील ने ‘टीबी में नेक्स्टजेन सीक्वेंसिंग‘ पर एक व्याख्यान दिया।
आयोजन सचिव, डा इमराना मसूद ने ‘तपेदिक के प्रबंधन में हालिया नैदानिक तकनीकों‘ पर एक व्याख्यान दिया, जबकि डा उम्मुल बनीन ने ‘दवा प्रतिरोधी टीबी के लिए उपलब्ध विभिन्न उपचार आहार‘ पर बात की। डा नफीस अहमद ने ‘टीबी निवारक उपचार‘ पर एक व्याख्यान दिया।

        अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के प्रशिक्षण एवं नियोजन कार्यालय (जनरल) द्वारा विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों द्वारा दिवसीय भर्ती मेले सैराब के सफल आयोजन में भूमिका निभाने के लिए समन्वयकों और सह-समन्वयकों को सम्मानित किया गया।
समापन समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए एएमयू के प्रो-वाइस चांसलर प्रोफेसर मोहम्मद गुलरेज ने जॉब फेयर के आयोजन और विभिन्न कंपनियों द्वारा विश्वविद्यालय के 160 से अधिक छात्रों के लिए प्लेसमेंट प्रदान करने के लिए टीपीओ-जनरल के प्रयासों की सराहना की।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस तरह के आयोजन नियमित रूप से आयोजित किए जाने चाहिए क्योंकि वे न केवल हमारे छात्रों को प्लेसमेंट प्राप्त करने में मदद करते हैं, बल्कि उन्हें अपने करियर के लक्ष्यों को निर्धारित करने और उसके अनुसार तैयारी करने में भी मदद करते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि प्लेसमेंट यूनिवर्सिटी की रैंकिंग को आगे बढ़ाने में बेहद सहायक हैं।
सैराब के आयोजन सचिव और सहायक टीपीओ, डा जहांगीर आलम ने कहा कि टीपीओ के स्वयंसेवक इस कार्यालय की रीढ़ हैं और उनका सहयोग और समन्वय जबरदस्त है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस तरह के आयोजन शिक्षा जगत और उद्योग के बीच की खाई को पाटने में मदद करते हैं।
सह-संयोजक, सैराब और सहायक टीपीओ, डा मुजम्मिल मुश्ताक ने टीपीओ-जनरल द्वारा की जाने वाली विभिन्न गतिविधियों और एएमयू छात्रों के कैरियर विकास के लिए किए जा रहे प्रयासों पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने कहा कि सैराब जैसे आयोजन एएमयू को कॉर्पोरेट जगत के साथ एक मजबूत बंधन विकसित करने में मदद करेंगे।
कायनात फाजिल खान ने सैराब की एक व्यापक रिपोर्ट दी जिसमें बताया गया कि भर्ती मेले के लिए 1200 से अधिक पंजीकरण किए गए, 700 से अधिक छात्रों ने भाग लिया और 160 से अधिक छात्रों को 24 कंपनियों से प्रस्ताव मिले।
श्री साद हमीद, टीपीओ, (सामान्य) ने रोजगार मेले के सफल क्रियान्वयन में समर्थन और मार्गदर्शन के लिए विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन को धन्यवाद दिया।
एएमयू के छात्र यतेंद्र चैधरी और अर्शी जहीर ने सैराब में भागीदारी के अपने अनुभव को साझा किया।
सैराब के दौरान सामने आई विभिन्न घटनाओं को दर्शाने वाली एक डॉक्यूमेंट्री फिल्म भी दिखाई गई।

A four member delegation of the University of California at Santa Cruz, USA headed by its  Chancellor Prof. Cynthia K. Larive called on Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) on 23^rd March, 2023. Dr. Anna Finn, Associate Chancellor, Chief of Staff and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Ms. Becky George, Assistant Vice Provost, Global Engagement and Mr. John D. Pine, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Alumni Relations were the other three members of the delegation.

Prof. Cynthia K. Larive and other members of the delegation were ushered to the Vice Chancellor’s office by NCC cadets of the university in a grand welcome ceremony. The delegation was formally welcomed by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar and Deans of the university at the Yasser Arafat Hall.  The Vice Chancellor elaborated about the modest beginning of JMI, its great history and current impressive profile in her address which was followed by the screening of a film on JMI.

Begum Shehnaz Sidrat has been long involved in the field of social work. Born in Moradabad, to a family which has been long involved in independence movement, she grew up working for and with the people. she started a school 'Bachon ka ghar' for the underprivileged children in the locality. She did her post graduation from (KGK college) in political science and urdu. Shehnaz Sidrat married into the prestigious Ansari family of Farangimahal and is the daughter-in-law of M.P. Hayatullah Ansari and Founding president of Bazm-E-Khwateen, Sultana hayat. She worked with and took over the NGO after the demise of her mother-in-law in 1992. Begum Shehnaz sidrat has extensively broadened the working area of the NGO in the past 21 years. She has trained about 100000 teachers till now.

Bazm-E-Khwateen was established in 1934 in response to the growing women disparity in the society. it aimed at providing the women with a bias free stage and where rather than being assessed on the gender, their individual quality would be given importance. Since then on the 15th of every month, meeting is organised in the Zanana park, the only park wherein only women are allowed during the meetings. the main aims of the NGO are to empower women especially the economic backward ones in terms of opportunity and education, provide safety net to them by giving legal help and awareness and finally to make them independent by helping them stand on their own feet. Awareness Programs, Self Employment Workshops, Educational Programs, Vocational Training Programs, Counselling Programs Seminar, Conferences, Workshops are organised to help women as much as we can.

Begum Shehnaz Sidrat has extensively worked for the welfare of women by taking up and solving numerous cases related to marital discord, family issues, legal issues, financial issues etc. her contribution to the welfare of women has been recognised by many people. she has been awarded the HT Women 2012,Award from journalist media and writers 2012, Lady of the millennium 2011.
