Students' Union would not allow anyone to damage the prestige of the AMU : Mr. Abu Affan Farooquee, President AMUSU


The Installation function of office bearers of newly elected Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) was organized today in the Kennedy Auditorium. The programme was presided over by the Vice Chancellor who is also the Patron of the Students' Union, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis. A heightened level of delight was evident among the student community and the programme was a grand success with thunderous applauses made after and in between every speech delivered by the office bearers as well as other candidates who contested the Chairs.

The newly elected President, Mr. Abu Affan Farooquee, Vice President, Syed Umar Ahmad Qadri and Honorary Secretary, Mr. Amir Qutub thanked the students for electing them and promised that they would work for the development and progress of the University while following the golden traditions of AMU Students' Union.
Paying rich tributes to the founder of the University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the President of AMUSU, Mr. Abu Affan Farooquee said that the University came into existence after great hardships faced by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and it is our responsibility to preserve its honour. He said that the Students' Union would not allow anyone to damage the prestige and the glorious image of the University.
He urged the students to keep up with the rules and regulations of the institution and nobody would be allowed to go against the rules. He vowed that the Students' Union will protest if anyone takes the law in his or her hand.

Mr. Farooquee said that the democratic rights of the students will be restored and efforts will be made at all levels to restore the minority status of the University. He said that the Union will take the issue to the Parliament for a specific law to restore the minority status, if needed.
The newly elected President demanded that Wi-Fi services be made available to the students,
admission form fees be reduced to make more affordable, an emergency service be started at Tibbiya College Hospital, girl students be provided buses for easy conveyance and girls be given representation in Women's Cell. He also urged the University administration to establish a Central Placement Cell for providing better employment avenues to the students and the timely payment of scholarships to the research scholars.
The Vice President of the Union, Mr. Syed Umar Ahmad Qadri assured the students of representing their sentiments and carrying forward their wills and wishes. He said that we should respect the great sacrifices of the students who carried an agitation and sat on Dharna for restoration of the AMU Students' Union and thank them for their great job. He said that we are sorry for the incident of setting of Vice Chancellor's Lodge afire in 2007 and demand an enquiry into the case. He said that the tendency of hall shifting should be changed and the girl students should be provided with better medical facilities.

Assuring the newly elected Union of their full cooperation, the defeated candidates for the posts of President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary said that the students' interests will be honoured and nobody will be allowed to sabotage the interest of the students and the prestige of the University.
Addressing the Installation Ceremony, the Patron of the AMU Students' Union and Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis assured that the issues raised by the students leaders will be solved with the cooperation of the Students' Union. He said that University is already working as a savior of the students' interests and efforts have been started to established a Central Placement Cell and it would be materialized soon. Prof. Azis said that Information Communication Technology has been given a new boost in the campus and the students will be provided the Wi-Fi facility free of cost in next few weeks.

The Vice Chancellor said that AMU is one of the most prestigious universities of India and new centres are being established in different parts of the country for its expansion and development in order to create an educational revolution among Muslims. While congratulating the newly elected Office Bearers of the Students' Union, Prof. Azis hoped that they would work for taking forward the prestige of the institution. He said that the University is like a family and preserving its existence and working for its development is our responsibility. He said that University administration is committed to the welfare of the students and it would cooperate fully with the Students' Union.
As per the AMU traditions after Students' Union installation the Vice Chancellor announced suspension of teaching on January 28.
Dr. Shariq Aqeel highlighted the grand history of AMUSU while conducting the programme and welcomed the office bearers of the Students' Union. The newly elected student representatives to AMU Court were also present in the programme.
