JMI celebrates 74th Republic Day with patriotic fervour and zeal
Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) celebrated 74th Republic Day today with great enthusiasm, zeal and patriotic fervour. The celebration began with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest of the function Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI at the forecourt of Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditorium of the university. Unfurling of the tricolour was followed by the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering.
Prof. Moinuddin, Former Pro Vice Chancellor, DTU, Delhi was Guest of Honour of the function which was attended by Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI, Prof. Ibrahim, DSW, JMI, Deans, Heads of Departments, Officers, teachers, non-teaching staff, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers of the university.
Prof. Asaduddin delivered a speech on ‘Significance of 26th January for Indian Democracy’ in which he highlighted the true meaning and significance of Republic Day. In her address Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI said that whatever we, as a country, are achieving today or set to achieve further is because we are a true democracy and successful republic. “This year India has been awarded the Presidency of G 20, one of the most influential global forums in international system under the dynamic and proactive leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi”, said Prof. Akhtar.
Prof. Najma Akhtar further said that the country is firm to address global challenges such as declining global economy, climate change and international security that pose serious challenges before humanity through the G 20 presidency. We are a responsible nation trying to showcase our leadership ability and approach to the world as a whole. “Our G 20 mantra is One Earth, One Family and One Future”, said the Vice Chancellor.
The Vice Chancellor elaborated the achievements of JMI in the recent past like figuring among top three universities in NIRF, A++ grade awarded by NAAC and highest ranking for university’s outstanding performance in providing quality education, teaching and research.
Prof. Najma Akhtar further said “We are making sincere endeavours to become a world-class teaching-cum-research University by bringing in best national and international practices through the development of collaborative partnerships with institutions of excellence both domestically and internationally. We are committed to offering cutting edge learning experience, internationally benchmarked education, intellectual freedom and critical research opportunities in frontier areas of contemporary concern”.
Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI presented a formal vote of thanks. The function culminated with the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering.
An All India Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan will be organised at the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering & Technology in the evening to celebrate Republic Day. A number of programmes were organised by various Faculties, Departments and Centres of the university on 24th and 25th January, 2023 also as part of Republic Day celebrations.
