AMU Alumni Body from Riyadh Extends Major Academic, Infrastructure Support to University
ALIGARH, February 6: Reaffirming the enduring bond between Aligarh Muslim University and its global alumni network, the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA), Riyadh, extended substantial academic and infrastructure support to the University through scholarships, donations and the inauguration of key educational facilities.
Dr Inamullah Baig, President of AMUOBA, Riyadh, called on Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon and presented a cheque of ₹10 lakh towards student welfare. He also announced the provision of 100 scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students across all faculties, with a significant share earmarked for girl students. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof M Mohsin Khan, Registrar Prof Aasim Zafar, Finance Officer Noor-us-Salam and Joint Registrar Surur Athar were present on the occasion.
Expressing gratitude, Prof Naima Khatoon said that AMU alumni have consistently demonstrated deep affection and commitment towards their alma mater. She noted that such financial and institutional support plays a crucial role in strengthening academic access and development, and appealed to alumni across the globe to continue contributing to the University’s progress.
Dr Baig assured that the Riyadh chapter of AMUOBA would remain actively engaged in supporting the University’s future initiatives. In addition to scholarships, the Association has also provided classroom furniture for the STS School, further contributing to campus infrastructure.
As part of the alumni-supported initiatives, the Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged, AMU, marked a major milestone with the inauguration of the TouchSense Braille Lab. The facility was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, reinforcing the University’s commitment to inclusive and technology-enabled education. The lab was strengthened by the donation of an advanced assistive device, the Orbit Reader 20, from AMUOBA, Riyadh.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Naima Khatoon said that integrating assistive technologies is essential to ensuring dignity, independence and equal educational opportunities for students with special needs. She emphasised that such initiatives bridge traditional learning methods with modern digital tools.
The event was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan; Registrar Prof Asim Zafar; Director, DSE Prof Qudsia Tahseen; Deputy Director Prof Mohd Azam Khan; Finance Officer Noor-us-Salam; Prof Sartaj Tabassum; Joint Registrar Surur Athar; Dr Misbahul Arfin; and Prof Iffat Asghar. Principal Dr Naila Rashid said that the lab would enhance independent access to digital content and strengthen reading and comprehension skills among visually challenged students. The programme was coordinated by Ms Sana Shamshad, TGT (Computer).
Further strengthening student support services, a computer lab equipped with five systems was inaugurated at the Training and Placement Office (General), AMU. The facility, donated by AMUOBA, Riyadh, aims to enhance career guidance and employability support for students.
The inauguration was attended by Dr Inamullah Beg, Prof Sartaj Tabassum and Joint Registrar Surur Athar. Interacting with students, Dr Beg encouraged them to make effective use of the facility for career preparation and skill development. The programme was hosted by Training and Placement Officer (General) Saad Hameed, along with Assistant TPOs Dr Muzamil Mushtaq and Dr Suhalia Parveen.
The initiatives were facilitated through the efforts of Joint Registrar Surur Athar, whose coordination played a key role in translating alumni support into tangible academic and infrastructural outcomes.
