IIT DELHI

 

            JMI students visit National Archives of India, IIT Delhi Library & JNU Library

Students enrolled in MLISc, BLISc, and the PG Diploma in Preservation, Conservation, and Digitization in Archives and Libraries programmes run by Dr. Zakir Husain Library, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) visited National Archives of India, IIT Delhi Library and Jawaharlal Nehru University Library on April 25th, 2024,. This educational tour aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to various archival and library settings, fostering a deeper appreciation for archival preservation techniques and scholarly resources.

The educational visit was conducted under the headship of Dr. Vikas S. Nagrale, Head and University Librarian, and was coordinated by Dr. Shehbaz H. Naqvi, Associate Professor, Dr. Zakir Husain Library, JMI. The trip was supported by Dr. Sufian Ahmad, Deputy Librarian and Mr. Johan Md. Mir, Information Scientist, Dr Zakir Husain Library.

Seventy students were accompanied by three faculty members- Dr. Umaima, Dr. Sandeep Sharma and Ms. Shazia Alvi and supportive staff members- Mr. Mohd. Adnan and Mr. Rahmat Khan. The visit proved to be an enriching experience for the students who were overwhelmed by this opportunity, especially since it marked the resumption of educational experiences following the pandemic interruption after four years.

Dr. Vikas S. Nagrale, University Librarian, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Eqbal Hussain, Offg.Vice-Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Tabrez Alam Khan, Professor Incharge, Dr. Zakir Husain Library, JMI and Mr. Hadis Lari, Offg. Registrar, JMI for granting permission to organize this educational trip for the students. Observing the enthusiastic response from the students, the University Librarian expressed his intention to continue promoting such academic activities in the future as well.
