Minority Rights Day organized in AMU
Aligarh , December 21: Teachers of the Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University, in their deliberations on the occasion of ' Minority Rights Day ' , exchanged views on upholding the rights of freedom , dignity and equal opportunities of religious , ethnic and linguistic minorities. be provided.
Professor Arshi Khan said that there is a need to create awareness about respect for minorities in a multicultural state like India.
Talking about the debate in the Constituent Assembly on the problems of minorities, he stressed on the obligation of the state to work for the welfare of ethnic , linguistic and religious minorities.
Speaking on the powerlessness of indigenous people , scheduled castes and tribes, Dr. Parvez Alam said that marginalized groups need special measures to ensure that they benefit from the same rights as the rest of the population.
He further said that it is the duty of the state to ensure that no ethnic , cultural and religious group is under-represented in the public and private sectors .
Professor Mirza Asmar Baig highlighted the position of minority rights in the Fundamental Rights Scheme.
Dr. Ayesha Imtiaz explained minority specific policies and called for appointment of special officers for religious minorities in case of linguistic minorities.
