JMI’s Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School celebrates National Space Day

First ‘National Space Day’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the country on 23rd August, 2024 and Jamia Girls Sr. Secondary School of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a number of activities on this occasion.  The day was commemorated to celebrate the successful landing of the ‘Vikram’ Lander on the Moon a year ago on 23rd August, 2023. Main event was held at Bharat Mandapam to inspire future scientists and engineers. This year's theme was "Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga.”

As part of the celebration, the Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon and ISRO Robotics Challenge were organised to motivate and inspire young minds. A group of girls from Jamia Girls Sr. Secondary School participated by creating commendable models based on Chandrayaan-3, Mangal Mission, and Satish Dhawan Space Centre. They also presented a painting depicting Life on Mars and a self-composed poem as a tribute to India’s space achievements. Students, guided by their TGT Science and Math teachers, worked diligently for an entire week to prepare the models under the guidance of Ms. Anjum Iqbal, the Principal of the school. The three girls had the opportunity to attend the ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, along with their dedicated teachers. The occasion was graced by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, as well as other luminaries like Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Space, and S. Somanath, the Chairman of ISRO.

During the event, the President appreciated the devoted scientists for their outstanding accomplishments. She also presented awards to the winners of ‘ISRO’s Robotics Challenge’ and ‘Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon’. The students had the unique opportunity to walk through various exhibitions set up by different ministries and departments like the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, etc. A fascinating display of different models provided students with an immersive experience of space technology.
