KA Nizami Centre Hosts Quran Conference in Collaboration with Zakat Foundation
Aligarh, September 16: The Khaliq Ahmad Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Zakat Foundation of India, organised a Quran Conference at the JNMC Auditorium. The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon, with special lectures delivered by Professor Aslam Parvez, former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, and Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood, President of the Zakat Foundation of India.
In his welcome address, Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Director of the Khaliq Ahmad Nizami Centre, highlighted the Centre's achievements and the purpose of the conference. He said; Quran is the divine book of guidance from Allah, serving as the primary source of knowledge. The Centre is dedicated to exploring the philosophical aspects of Quranic knowledge through research and teaching, and this conference was part of its ongoing academic programmes.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon reiterated in her inaugural speech that the Quran is the book of guidance from Allah. She reflected on AMU’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's vision of creating individuals equipped with both scientific knowledge and philosophical wisdom, with the core of their being rooted in faith.
Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood, a former senior bureaucrat and OSD of the Sachar Committee under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, delivered an insightful lecture on "Refreshing Our Divine Consciousness." Professor Aslam Parvez elaborated on the teachings of the Quran in shaping human behaviour and morality, highlighting Allah’s commands for ethical conduct.
Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Honorary teacher of Quranic Ecological Ethics at the KANCQS gave her feedback comments.
During the event, the book "How to Become Pious in the Light of Quranic Guidance ?" by Adeel Akhtar, Director of the Zakat Foundation of India, was launched.. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Shariq Aqeel.
