JMI celebrates 75th Republic Day with patriotic fervor, zeal and spirit of Viksit Bharat
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated 75th Republic Day today with great enthusiasm, zeal and patriotic fervour. The celebration began with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest of the function Prof. Eqbal Hussain, Offg. Vice Chancellor, JMI at the forecourt of Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditorium of the university. Unfurling of the tricolour was followed by the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering that included NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, teaching and non-teaching staff of the university who turned up in large numbers to attend the Republic Day function despite shivering cold and foggy weather.
Singing of National Anthem was followed by administration of Viksit Bharat pledge by the Offg. Vice Chancellor in both Hindi and English.
Inside the Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium, the Republic Day function began with Tilawat-e-Quran Paak followed by singing of Jamia Tarana by students. Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir formally welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries inside the Auditorium which was followed by a very energetic speech by a university student.
In his address Offg. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eqbal Hussain highlighted the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters to secure independence and making India a strong independent republic. He also emphasized the important role played by founders of JMI in freedom struggle. He also said that from a very humble beginning, JMI is one of the top institutions of the country today and aspiring to get the recognition of Institute of Eminence.
“Today, we have taken a pledge to strive for quality in all facets of life for Viksit Bharat, to promote consciousness for a cleaner & greater Quality Bharat, to embrace and promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign and support indigenous products fostering economic growth and self-reliance, to commit to encourage others to foster a culture of innovation, integrity, and continuous improvement”, said the Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Eqbal said “let us further commit ourselves to work together for more inclusive and equitable society where principles of our constitution are not just on paper but in reality. Let us celebrate this day with lot of joy and pride and let us promise to be a good citizen”.
Offg. Vice Chancellor address was followed by cultural programmes presented by students of various schools of JMI.
Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI presented a formal vote of thanks. The function culminated with the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering.
Prof. Eqbal Hussain, Offg. Vice Chancellor, JMI also inaugurated an exhibition titled “The Vision – An Exhibition on Progressive Story of Education & ViksitBharat@2047” at M.F. Husain Art Gallery of the university. Prof. Bindulika Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI and other Deans and esteemed guests were present during the inauguration.
The exhibition highlights the inventive quality of visual arts such as paintings, sculptures, prints, etchings and tapestries and it centres on the theme of India and its development.
