CDOE-AMU Organises Invited Talk on Online Education, Leadership and AI Integration

Aligarh, September 26: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an invited talk on “Indian Market for Online Education, Preparation for Leadership in Market and AI Integration” on September 26, bringing together faculty members and academic professionals to reflect on the rapidly evolving landscape of online education and the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education.

The programme focused on emerging opportunities and challenges in India’s online education sector, with particular emphasis on institutional preparedness, leadership, quality assurance and the integration of AI into teaching-learning and academic processes.

The invited talk was delivered by Prof. Ahrar Husain, Member, Appellate Committee, Distance Education Bureau (DEB), University Grants Commission (UGC). An experienced academic and higher-education professional, Prof. Husain has served as Former Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, and has also contributed as a Member of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), CDOE, AMU.

In his welcome address, Prof. Ekram Khan, Director, CDOE, AMU, highlighted the growing role of online education in widening access to quality higher education. He emphasised the need for institutions to remain responsive to technological advancements, evolving learner expectations and the changing requirements of the digital education ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ahrar Husain offered valuable insights into the expanding Indian market for online education and stressed the importance of strategic institutional preparedness to harness emerging opportunities. He highlighted the increasing role of AI in teaching-learning, student support services, academic administration and educational content development, while also discussing quality assurance, regulatory requirements and institutional readiness in the evolving Open, Distance and Online Learning landscape.

The interactive academic engagement provided faculty members and academic professionals an opportunity to examine contemporary trends in online education and deliberate on how technological advancements and responsible AI integration can contribute to more accessible, responsive and quality-oriented higher education.

Dr Seema Khan compered the programme and conducted the proceedings, while Dr Md. Ashyam proposed the vote of thanks.

AMU’s Nanotechnology Centre Organises Plantation Drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

ALIGARH, September 16: The Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre (INC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, with faculty members, research scholars, students and non-teaching staff joining the initiative to promote environmental responsibility and strengthen the green cover on the University campus.

Prof. Mohammad Azhar Aziz emphasised the importance of collective efforts to protect the environment and maintain a greener campus. He also stressed the need for proper care of the planted saplings and thanked Prof. Anwar Shahzad, Member In-Charge, Land and Gardens, for providing the saplings and supporting the initiative.

The drive was organised by Dr. Swaleha Naseem and Dr. Kaseed Anwar, Assistant Professors, Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre. Faculty members, research scholars, M.Tech. and Advanced PG Diploma students and non-teaching staff participated in the drive. Ornamental, fruit-bearing and shade-providing saplings were planted at designated locations in and around the Centre. Master’s students, PhD scholars, non-teaching staff and Gardener Mr. Javed also planted saplings.

भाषाविज्ञान विभाग में अंगदान और स्वच्छता की शपथ दिलाई गई

अलीगढ़, 26 सितंबरः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के भाषाविज्ञान विभाग में 26 सितंबर को ‘जुग-जुग जियो अभियान’ के तहत अंगदान जागरूकता तथा ‘स्वच्छता ही सेवा-2026’ अभियान के अंतर्गत दो शपथ कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए गए। कार्यक्रमों का उद्देश्य विद्यार्थियों और विभागीय सदस्यों को सामाजिक जिम्मेदारियों के प्रति जागरूक करना तथा समाज के कल्याण में योगदान देने के लिए प्रेरित करना था।
शपथ कार्यक्रमों में स्नातक एवं स्नातकोत्तर विद्यार्थियों, शोधार्थियों, शिक्षकों और गैर-शिक्षण कर्मचारियों ने भाग लिया। प्रतिभागियों को स्वच्छता के प्रति अपनी जिम्मेदारियों और समाज एवं राष्ट्र के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता की भावना विकसित करने के महत्व से अवगत कराया गया। विद्यार्थियों को दैनिक जीवन में जिम्मेदार व्यवहार अपनाने और पर्यावरण को टिकाऊ बनाने में योगदान देने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया।
विश्वविद्यालय की पर्यावरण संबंधी पहलों के तहत नदीम तरीन हॉल में ‘एक पेड़ मां के नाम’ अभियान के अंतर्गत पौधारोपण कार्यक्रम भी आयोजित किया गया। इस दौरान विद्यार्थियों और विश्वविद्यालय समुदाय के सदस्यों को हरियाली को संरक्षित करने तथा पर्यावरण के प्रति जिम्मेदारी निभाने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया।
कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन अंगदान जागरूकता और स्वच्छता अभियानों के संबंध में संबंधित सरकारी मंत्रालयों से प्राप्त निर्देशों के अनुरूप किया गया।

 AMU Department of Home Science Holds Family Counselling Camp in Manzoorgarhi

ALIGARH, September 26: The Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with Usmania Helping Hand Society, organised a Family Counselling Camp in the slum area of Manzoorgarhi, Aligarh, to promote family well-being, mental health, health and hygiene, and community awareness.

The programme focused on positive family relationships, effective communication, mental well-being, menstrual hygiene, education and awareness about government schemes related to entrepreneurship and community welfare. AMU students presented informative skits and interacted with community members on issues concerning their daily lives, providing them an opportunity to apply their academic learning through community engagement and social service.

The camp was organised by Dr. Mariyam Fatima, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science. Dr. Sadia Usman, Founder, Usmania Helping Hand Society, also supported the initiative.

Following a consultative meeting, the Department has decided to adopt the area for sustained community-oriented academic and extension activities. It plans to organise family counselling programmes, health and hygiene awareness drives, educational activities, skill-development initiatives and other outreach programmes in the area.

अलीगढ़, 26 सितंबरः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के सेंटर फॉर प्रमोशन ऑफ एजुकेशनल एंड कल्चरल एडवांसमेंट ऑफ मुस्लिम्स ऑफ इंडिया (सीईपीईसीएएमआई) द्वारा ‘भारत में मुसलमानों की शैक्षिक और आर्थिक स्थिति चुनौतियां, अवसर और नीतिगत सुझाव’ विषय पर दो दिवसीय अंतरराष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन जे.एन. मेडिकल कॉलेज सभागार में शुरू हुआ। सम्मेलन में शिक्षाविदों, शोधकर्ताओं, नीति-निर्माताओं और विशेषज्ञों ने शिक्षा एवं सामाजिक-आर्थिक मुद्दों पर विचार-विमर्श किया तथा समावेशी विकास के लिए शोध आधारित रणनीतियों और नीतिगत उपायों पर चर्चा की।
उद्घाटन सत्र की अध्यक्षता एएमयू की कुलपति प्रो. नईमा खातून ने की। हरियाणा इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ पब्लिक एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन के महानिदेशक और एएमयू के पूर्व छात्र मनोज यादव, आईपीएस, मुख्य अतिथि रहे। जवाहरलाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय के पूर्व अर्थशास्त्री प्रोफेसर प्रो. अमिताभ कुंडू ने मुख्य व्याख्यान दिया, जबकि इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मैनेजमेंट टेक्नोलॉजी, हैदराबाद के निदेशक एवं प्रोफेसर प्रो. के.एम. बहारुल इस्लाम विशिष्ट अतिथि रहे।
अध्यक्षीय संबोधन में प्रो. नईमा खातून ने शैक्षिक और आर्थिक अवसरों के विस्तार के लिए निरंतर प्रयासों की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने समावेशी और समान विकास को बढ़ावा देने में विश्वविद्यालयों की भूमिका को महत्वपूर्ण बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों को ऐसा अनुकूल वातावरण तैयार करना चाहिए, जहां प्रतिभाओं को विकसित होने, सामाजिक गतिशीलता को बढ़ावा देने और युवाओं को समाज तथा राष्ट्र के विकास में सार्थक योगदान देने के अवसर मिलें।
मुख्य अतिथि मनोज यादव ने एएमयू में बिताए अपने दिनों को याद करते हुए शिक्षा, कौशल विकास, संस्थागत सहयोग और समान अवसरों के महत्व पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने कहा कि गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा और उपयुक्त कौशल के माध्यम से लोगों को सशक्त बनाना देश की आर्थिक और सामाजिक प्रगति में उनकी प्रभावी भागीदारी को मजबूत कर सकता है।
प्रो. अमिताभ कुंडू ने मुसलमानों की शैक्षिक और सामाजिक-आर्थिक स्थिति का विश्लेषण प्रस्तुत करते हुए विश्वसनीय आंकड़ों, लक्षित हस्तक्षेपों और उपयुक्त नीतिगत उपायों की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया। प्रो. के.एम. बहारुल इस्लाम ने शिक्षा, आर्थिक सशक्तीकरण और संस्थागत क्षमता निर्माण को महत्वपूर्ण बताते हुए अकादमिक निष्कर्षों और नीतिगत सुझावों को व्यावहारिक पहलों में बदलने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया।
इस अवसर पर कुलपति और अन्य अतिथियों ने सीईपीईसीएएमआई की पत्रिका ‘नक्श-ए-फर्दा’ तथा सम्मेलन स्मारिका का विमोचन भी किया।
सीईपीईसीएएमआई के निदेशक प्रो. मोहम्मद मोहीबुल हक ने स्वागत भाषण दिया। उन्होंने शोध, संवाद और सार्थक अकादमिक सहभागिता के माध्यम से शैक्षिक, सांस्कृतिक और सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए केंद्र की प्रतिबद्धता पर प्रकाश डाला।
सीईपीईसीएएमआई के सहायक निदेशक एवं सम्मेलन के सह-संयोजक डॉ. अहमद मुज्तबा सिद्दीकी ने अपने शेरों के माध्यम से कार्यक्रम में साहित्यिक रंग भरते हुए उद्घाटन सत्र का संचालन किया।
उद्घाटन सत्र के बाद तकनीकी सत्र आयोजित किए गए, जिनमें विभिन्न विषयों पर शोध-पत्र प्रस्तुत किए गए और विस्तृत चर्चा हुई। विचार-विमर्श में समकालीन चुनौतियों, उभरते अवसरों तथा शिक्षा के विकास, आर्थिक सशक्तीकरण और समावेशी विकास को मजबूत करने के लिए नीतिगत रणनीतियों पर चर्चा की गई।
सम्मेलन शिक्षाविदों, नीति-निर्माताओं और विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से जुड़े विशेषज्ञों के बीच अंतरविषयक संवाद और विचारों के आदान-प्रदान के लिए महत्वपूर्ण मंच प्रदान कर रहा है। चर्चाओं का उद्देश्य शैक्षिक और आर्थिक चुनौतियों के समाधान के लिए व्यावहारिक एवं शोध आधारित सुझाव तैयार करना है।

JMI Concludes Tourism Month with Regional Cuisine and Tourism Competition to Promote Indian Knowledge Systems among Youth

 

New Delhi, September 25, 2026

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM), Jamia Millia Islamia, successfully concluded its month-long celebrations organised to commemorate World Tourism Day 2026, culminating on 25 September 2026 with a Regional Cuisine and Tourism Competition. The celebrations featured interactive sessions, practical workshops, and competitions aimed at enhancing hospitality skills, cultural awareness, and appreciation of Indian Knowledge Systems among the youth.

The programme commenced with industry interaction sessions featuring The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi; The Surya; Encalm Hospitality; and Dewan Holidays, providing students with valuable insights into contemporary industry practices, trends, and career opportunities in the travel and hospitality sectors. A range of creative and skill-based activities was also organised, including Flower Arrangement, Towel Origami, Tourism Quiz, Documentary Screening and Photography, Rangoli Making, Brochure Making, and Nukkad Natak (Street Play). A First Aid session was also conducted to sensitise students to basic emergency response and safety practices.

The concluding Regional Cuisine and Tourism Competition was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and the Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi. The event was also attended by Prof. Tanuja, Dean (Academics); Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; and Prof. Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies. Prof. Tanuja and Prof. Mohammad Sharif served as judges for the competition.

The dignitaries visited the student exhibits and presentations showcasing India’s diverse cultural traditions and tourism potential. They also tasted a wide array of authentic regional cuisines prepared by DTHM students and appreciated their culinary skills, presentation, creativity, and efforts to showcase India’s rich culinary heritage. The event provided an experiential platform for students to explore India’s regional cuisines, traditions, cultural practices, and tourism resources, with a special emphasis on promoting Indian Knowledge Systems among the youth.

The celebrations were organised under the leadership of Prof. Sarah Hussain, Head, DTHM, with the support of Dr. Nusrat Yasmeen, Student Advisor, DTHM, and Dr. Vijay Kumar, Placement In-charge, DTHM, along with the faculty members and student coordinators. The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar congratulated the entire team for organising an engaging and impactful series of programmes that brought together hospitality and tourism education, experiential learning, Indian cultural heritage, and youth engagement.

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया के पर्यटन और आतिथ्य प्रबंधन विभाग (DTHM) ने विश्व पर्यटन दिवस 2026 के उपलक्ष्य में आयोजित महीने भर चलने वाले कार्यक्रमों का सफलतापूर्वक समापन किया। इसका समापन 25 सितंबर, 2026 को क्षेत्रीय व्यंजन और पर्यटन प्रतियोगिता के साथ हुआ। इन कार्यक्रमों में इंटरैक्टिव सत्र, व्यावहारिक कार्यशालाएं और प्रतियोगिताएं शामिल थीं, जिनका उद्देश्य युवाओं में आतिथ्य कौशल, सांस्कृतिक जागरूकता और भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणालियों के प्रति समझ को बढ़ाना था।

 

कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत उद्योग जगत के साथ बातचीत के सत्रों से हुई, जिसमें 'द लीला एम्बिएंस कन्वेंशन होटल, दिल्ली', 'द सूर्या', 'एनकैल्म हॉस्पिटैलिटी' और 'दीवान हॉलिडेज़' शामिल थे। इन सत्रों ने छात्रों को यात्रा और आतिथ्य क्षेत्र में आधुनिक उद्योग प्रथाओं, रुझानों और करियर के अवसरों के बारे में बहुमूल्य जानकारी प्रदान की। कई रचनात्मक और कौशल-आधारित गतिविधियां भी आयोजित की गईं, जिनमें फूलों की सजावट, टॉवल ओरिगेमी, पर्यटन क्विज़, डॉक्यूमेंट्री स्क्रीनिंग और फोटोग्राफी, रंगोली बनाना, ब्रोशर बनाना और नुक्कड़ नाटक शामिल थे। छात्रों को बुनियादी आपातकालीन प्रतिक्रिया और सुरक्षा प्रथाओं के प्रति जागरूक करने के लिए फर्स्ट एड सत्र भी आयोजित किया गया।

 

समापन समारोह के दौरान आयोजित क्षेत्रीय व्यंजनों और पर्यटन प्रतियोगिता में जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया के कुलपति प्रो. मज़हर आसिफ़ और रजिस्ट्रार प्रो. मो. महताब आलम रिज़वी शामिल हुए। इस कार्यक्रम में डीन (अकादमिक) प्रो. तनुजा; इंजीनियरिंग और प्रौद्योगिकी संकाय के डीन प्रो. मोहम्मद शरीफ; और प्रबंधन अध्ययन संकाय के डीन प्रो. पंकज कुमार गुप्ता भी उपस्थित थे। प्रो. तनुजा और प्रो. मोहम्मद शरीफ ने प्रतियोगिता के जज की भूमिका निभाई।

 

विशिष्ट अतिथियों ने छात्रों द्वारा लगाई गई प्रदर्शनियों और प्रस्तुतियों को देखा, जिनमें भारत की विविध सांस्कृतिक परंपराओं और पर्यटन क्षमता को प्रदर्शित किया गया था। उन्होंने DTHM के छात्रों द्वारा तैयार किए गए विभिन्न प्रकार के पारंपरिक क्षेत्रीय व्यंजनों का स्वाद भी चखा और उनके पाक कौशल, प्रस्तुति, रचनात्मकता तथा भारत की समृद्ध पाक विरासत को प्रदर्शित करने के उनके प्रयासों की सराहना की। इस कार्यक्रम ने छात्रों को भारत के क्षेत्रीय खान-पान, परंपराओं, सांस्कृतिक रीति-रिवाजों और पर्यटन संसाधनों को जानने-समझने का एक व्यावहारिक मंच प्रदान किया। इसमें युवाओं के बीच भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणालियों को बढ़ावा देने पर विशेष ज़ोर दिया गया।

JMI’s Department of Architecture Hosts Extension Lecture on Energy Simulation Software for Sustainable Building Design


The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), successfully organized an extension lecture titled 'Fundamentals of Energy Simulation Software: Parameters and Interface Overview' on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The three-hour session, held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON, focused on equipping students with advanced digital tools essential for modern, sustainable architectural practices.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Mariam Ahmad, Associate Professor, and Dr. Mohammad Amir Khan, Assistant Professor. Architect Ghazzala Parween from BIM NATION, New Delhi, served as the expert resource person for the session.

 

Following an introductory address by Dr. Mohammad Amir Khan, the lecture highlighted the critical role of energy simulation software in designing net-zero energy and sustainable buildings. Ar. Ghazzala introduced participants to industry-standard applications, including DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus, before transitioning into a detailed exploration of Autodesk Forma site design.

 

Emphasizing the importance of cloud-based platforms for conducting comprehensive energy analyses, the lecture transitioned into a hands-on workshop. Students were guided through the Autodesk Forma interface, receiving step-by-step instructions on project creation, site identification, and geographical positioning within a global context.

 

During the practical segment, students actively conducted essential environmental evaluations, which included solar analysis, wind analysis, microclimate analysis, and embodied carbon analysis. The interactive format proved highly effective, providing attendees with a clear understanding of how to leverage cloud-based tools to assess and optimize the environmental potential of their design projects.

 

The successful extension lecture formally concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mariam Ahmad.

AMU Departments Organise Plantation and  Swachhata Drives

ALIGARH, September 24: The Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, with faculty members, research scholars, students and staff participating in the initiative.

Prof. S. Naushad, Dean, Faculty of Science, and Prof. Anwar Shahzad, Member In-Charge, Land and Gardens, were present on the occasion. Prof. Riaz Ahmad, Department of Zoology; Prof. Tariq Usmani, Chairperson, Department of Geography; Prof. Rashid Aziz Faridi, Prof. Nigar Alam Siddique, Dr. Fatma Mehar Sultana, Dr. Mumtaj Ahmad and Dr. Mohammad Taufique, all from the Department of Geography, also participated in the drive.

Meanwhile, the Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, AMU, organised a cleanliness drive at the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) as part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026. The activity focused on cleanliness, hygiene and environmental sanitation in healthcare and community settings.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, Associate Professor and Member In-Charge, UHTC. Dr. Sana Nawab, Assistant Professor, Dr. Iram Abid, Senior Resident, and the departmental team supported the initiative.

The UHTC cleaning staff cleaned the premises and surrounding areas and ensured proper collection and disposal of waste. Hand wash was also made available at designated hand-washing points to promote hand hygiene among patients, attendants and healthcare staff.

Senior Residents, postgraduate students, interns, MSWs and departmental staff participated in the activity. The drive reinforced the message of ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’ and highlighted the role of collective efforts in maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.

 

AMU’s Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College Observes 11th World Ayurveda Day

ALIGARH, September 24: Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed the 11th World Ayurveda Day with academic and educational activities highlighting the continuing relevance of Ayurveda and the scope for meaningful interaction among Ayurveda, Unani and other systems of traditional and integrative medicine.

The programme was organised in consonance with the initiative taken by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Ministry of AYUSH in connection with the observance of Ayurveda Day.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, former Vice Chancellor, AMU, emphasised the importance of India’s diverse traditional systems of medicine and called for greater academic collaboration among Ayurveda, Unani and other systems. He encouraged students and faculty to develop a broader understanding of different systems and explore areas of mutual learning and collaboration.

An invited lecture was delivered by Prof. Saurabha Nayak, Head, Department of Kayachikitsa, Jeevan Jyoti Ayurvedic Medical College, Aligarh, on “Ayurveda: Timeless Wisdom, Unique Principles and the Pathway to a Healthier Tomorrow”. He highlighted the fundamental principles of Ayurveda and their continuing relevance to contemporary healthcare, besides emphasising the scope for academic interaction among different systems of traditional and integrative medicine.

Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, expressed gratitude to the guests and the invited speaker, for their participation and appreciated Prof. Nayak for his informative lecture.

Prof. B.D. Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, appreciated the spirit of academic openness reflected in the observance at an Unani institution. He emphasised that such interaction should be reciprocal and inclusive.

The programme also included essay and poster competitions in which students presented their perspectives on traditional systems of medicine, health and wellness. Prizes were subsequently distributed among the winners.

Prof. Farooq Ahmad Dar, Coordinator of the programme, welcomed the guests and highlighted its academic significance. Dr.Abiha Ahmad Khan conducted the programme, while Dr. Atiya Samad proposed the vote of thanks.
