AMU Department of Home Science Holds Family Counselling Camp in Manzoorgarhi

ALIGARH, September 26: The Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with Usmania Helping Hand Society, organised a Family Counselling Camp in the slum area of Manzoorgarhi, Aligarh, to promote family well-being, mental health, health and hygiene, and community awareness.

The programme focused on positive family relationships, effective communication, mental well-being, menstrual hygiene, education and awareness about government schemes related to entrepreneurship and community welfare. AMU students presented informative skits and interacted with community members on issues concerning their daily lives, providing them an opportunity to apply their academic learning through community engagement and social service.

The camp was organised by Dr. Mariyam Fatima, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science. Dr. Sadia Usman, Founder, Usmania Helping Hand Society, also supported the initiative.

Following a consultative meeting, the Department has decided to adopt the area for sustained community-oriented academic and extension activities. It plans to organise family counselling programmes, health and hygiene awareness drives, educational activities, skill-development initiatives and other outreach programmes in the area.
