AMU’s Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College Observes 11th World Ayurveda Day

ALIGARH, September 24: Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed the 11th World Ayurveda Day with academic and educational activities highlighting the continuing relevance of Ayurveda and the scope for meaningful interaction among Ayurveda, Unani and other systems of traditional and integrative medicine.

The programme was organised in consonance with the initiative taken by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Ministry of AYUSH in connection with the observance of Ayurveda Day.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, former Vice Chancellor, AMU, emphasised the importance of India’s diverse traditional systems of medicine and called for greater academic collaboration among Ayurveda, Unani and other systems. He encouraged students and faculty to develop a broader understanding of different systems and explore areas of mutual learning and collaboration.

An invited lecture was delivered by Prof. Saurabha Nayak, Head, Department of Kayachikitsa, Jeevan Jyoti Ayurvedic Medical College, Aligarh, on “Ayurveda: Timeless Wisdom, Unique Principles and the Pathway to a Healthier Tomorrow”. He highlighted the fundamental principles of Ayurveda and their continuing relevance to contemporary healthcare, besides emphasising the scope for academic interaction among different systems of traditional and integrative medicine.

Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, expressed gratitude to the guests and the invited speaker, for their participation and appreciated Prof. Nayak for his informative lecture.

Prof. B.D. Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, appreciated the spirit of academic openness reflected in the observance at an Unani institution. He emphasised that such interaction should be reciprocal and inclusive.

The programme also included essay and poster competitions in which students presented their perspectives on traditional systems of medicine, health and wellness. Prizes were subsequently distributed among the winners.

Prof. Farooq Ahmad Dar, Coordinator of the programme, welcomed the guests and highlighted its academic significance. Dr.Abiha Ahmad Khan conducted the programme, while Dr. Atiya Samad proposed the vote of thanks.
