To mark the extraordinary contributions of Prof. Abul Hasan Siddiqi to Duty Society an International Seminar on “Life and Works of Late Prof. Abul Hasan Siddiqi” was organized by Jamia Hamdard today.
The inaugural session was compared by Prof. F. S. Sheerani
former Dean Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University. Prof. (Dr.)
Mohammad Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard enlightened the life and
works of Abul Hasan Siddiqi sahib in the field of Mathematics, Physics and
Applied Research and shared his personal experiences of Aligarh days and
functioning of the Duty Society. Chief Guest and Governor of Kerala Mr Arif
Mohammad Khan, presented the importance of Duty Society and focused on the
duties of citizens from a larger perspective. He said that nowadays people
generally fight for their rights and neglect their duties, if we focus on
duties we can develop a healthy society and prosperous country. He also
enlightened the Quranic Teachings of equality, humanity and the importance of
education. Mr Khwaja M. Shahid, Former Pro Vice-Chancellor of MANU, in his
keynote address remembered the dream of Abul Hasan Siddiqi to develop a Virtual
University which is now being realized by the Govt. of India. Mr Hammad Ahmed
Saheb, Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard and President of Duty Society, and
Vice-President of Duty Society also graced the function.
Prof. Irshad Mehmood thanked the delegates from across
India and abroad and the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard for his support in
organising this Seminar at Jamia Hamdard. In the technical session Padamshri
Prof. S. Zillur Rahman, Prof. M. Kaleemullah Ahmad, Dr Nazar Abbas, Dr R.C.
Singh of Sharda University and Mrs Azra Siddiqui shared their experiences of
Duty Society. He presented the achievements of Abul Hasan Siddiqi. Other
dignitaries include Professor Syed Asim Zafar of Aligarh Muslim University,
Chairman, Deptt. Computer Science, Professor Nafees Ansari, Director, Center
for Distance and Online Education, Dr Arman Rasool Faridi, Mr Khalid Masood,
AMU Court Member, Prof. Hafiz Ilyas, AMU Court Member, Prof. Raziullah Khan,
Mrs Heena Parveen, Dr Mohammad Shahid, Mr Mazhar Siddiqui, Mr Shaukat Mufti, Dr
Sarfraz Ahsan, Prof. Mohammad Akram, Er. Azhar Hussain, Prof. Farhan J. Ahmed,
Md. Tauhid Alam and others were also present in the programme. About Duty
Society Duty Society was founded at Aligarh Muslim University by Sahebzada
Aftab Ahmad Khan in 1889 with the objective of supporting poor and needy
students to get higher education. Maulana Tufail Ahmad, Mr Bahadur Ali, Mr
Abdullah Khan and Mr Mazharul Haq and Prof. Thomas Walker Arnold were also
instrumental in establishing the Duty Society. Duty Society Provides education
loans, Free Boarding and Coaching. Prof. Abul Hasan Siddiqi joined Duty Society
as Keeper in 1985 since then he worked enormously for the development of
society and his efforts culminated in the present form of Duty Society which is
a continuous source of encouragement, guidance and financial support for the
upliftment of poor students
