The Department of Sociology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with UGC-MMTTC, AMU, inaugurated a Short-Term Course on “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science and Social Science Research”which will run till October 13. A total of 85 participants from diverse disciplines have registered for the course.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Former Vice-Chancellor, AMU, appreciated the initiative and emphasized that future social science research must integrate AI and data-driven methods. He urged scholars to engage critically with technology while strengthening their research skills and methodological foundations.
Guest of Honour, Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, Dean, Faculty of Science, highlighted how AI is reshaping data collection and analysis, urging participants to adopt a scientific outlook in addressing social issues.Another Guest of Honour Prof. M. M. Sufyan Beg, Department of Computer Engineering, spoke about the transformative role of AI and Data Science in academia and stressed the need for collaboration between social and technical disciplines.
Course Coordinator Prof. Mohammad Akram, Chairman, Department of Sociology, underlined the academic value of integrating AI and Data Science into social research, encouraging students to enhance their technological competence. Course Director Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Programme Director, UGC-MMTTC, emphasized that such training programmes strengthen methodological rigor among faculty members and researchers.
Presiding over the session, Prof. Ikram Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, underscored the role of social sciences in addressing the ethical and human aspects of technological change.
Earlier, Dr. Mohammad Swalehin, Course Co-Coordinator, welcomed the guests and introduced the programme and later proposed a vote of thanks.
