JMI organises four-day Training Workshop on ‘Digital Image Processing’

 

 The Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized four-day Training Workshop on ‘Digital Image Processing’ for the Postgraduate Students in collaboration with the Regional Remote Sensing Center (RRSC)- North India, Indian Space Research Organization, Government of India, New Delhi during 24-29 March 2023.

The Inaugural ceremony of the training workshop held on 24th March 2023 in the GIS Laboratory, Department of Geography, JMI. The Chief General Manager, RRSC-North, New Delhi, Dr. S.K. Srivastav graced the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. Syed Akhtar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, JMI, Chaired the Inaugural ceremony. Prof. Haroon Sajjad, Head, Department of Geography, JMI, warmly welcomed all the distinguished guests, officials, delegates, faculty members, research scholars and students to the inaugural program. Prof. Sajjad stressed the need for imparting emerging geospatial technology among budding geographers to serve the society, nation and humanity under the stewardship of JMI Vice-Chancellor  Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri). Prof. Lubna Siddiqui, Coordinator of the Workshop, briefly highlighted the scope and technical details of the training program to be imparted to the postgraduate students during the four-day workshop.

Prof. Srivastav, delivered the Inaugural Address of the workshop in the inaugural function. He thanked JMI  Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar and Prof. Haroon Sajjad, Head, D/o Geography, JMI for taking this initiative of collaborative DIP Training Program at D/o Geography, JMI. He further highlighted key points related to applications of remote sensing and GIS on soil, water and forest resources; Application of Remote Sensing in agricultural drought, horticulture mapping, monitoring; Use of datasets in various applications through BHUWAN portal; Hydrological modeling for basin management and Morphometric analysis; Forest mapping, forest fire mapping and alert; Biodiversity classification; and Remote sensing for disaster studies such as hazard mapping, inundation mapping and early warning. He also appreciated the team of Scientists (Dr Sameer Saran, Ms Khusboo Mirza, Ms Neetu, Akash Goyal, Jayant Singhal) from RRSC, New Delhi for leading the training program as resource persons during the workshop.

Dr. Hasan Raja Naqvi, Co-coordinator of the workshop proposed the formal vote of thanks to all the scientists from RRSC, New Delhi, distinguished guests, university officials, non-teaching staff, scholars and students for making the inaugural function a grand success. Special thanks to Prof. Masood Ahsan Siddiqui whose continuous guidance and managerial talent for making this training workshop possible.

The Closing ceremony of the DIP training workshop held at the RRSC, New Delhi. The Chief General Manager, RRSC-North, New Delhi, Dr. S.K. Srivastav, other Scientists of the RRSC, New Delhi along with Prof. Lubna Siddiui (Coordinator) and Dr. Hasan Raja Naqvi (Co-ordinator), and 30 postgraduate students from D/o Geography, JMI participated in the closing ceremony. All the students received the certificate for successfully completing the training. Students expressed great deal of excitement and satisfaction to learn emerging skills and applications related to geospatial technologies in the areas of climate change, disaster risk reduction, urban management and data- driven policy making.
