JMI organises Special Lecture and a Panel Discussion on ‘Challenges for G20: Addressing Disparities in Social Dimensions’

 


The Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI), organised a Special Lecture and a Panel Discussion on March 22, 2023, to mark and celebrate India’s  G20 Presidency.

The Special Lecture, titled ‘Challenges for G20: Addressing Disparities in Social Dimensions’, was given by Professor Amitabh Kundu, a Senior Fellow with the Sustainable Cities and Transport program at World Resources Institute India. Professor Kundu highlighted the importance, and the significance of G20 as a forum for international cooperation, primarily on the aspects of financial and economic agenda.

The Panel Discussion, Towards Inclusive City, was chaired by Dr Arvinder Ansari, Honorary Director, CSSEIP. The panellists were Rumi Aijaz, Senior Fellow at Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi, Sandeep Chachra, Executive Director, Action Aid, Tikender Singh Panwar, author, and Professor Kulwinder Kaur, Department of Sociology, JMI. The panel was introduced, and the discussion moderated, by Dr Arvind Kumar from CSSEIP.

The speakers highlighted various facets of urbanisation, and shared their experiences and valuable knowledge about the quality of life in Indian cities, and the steps that have been taken, and must be taken to make these cities more inclusive.

Both the Special Lecture and the Panel Discussion were followed by interactive discussions between the speakers and the members of the audience. The event was attended by professors and students from CSSEIP, and other departments of the University. It was an enriching and intellectually stimulating experience for everyone present, and opened up new paths of thought, contemplation, and introspection.
