The Closing Ceremony & Prize Distribution function of the ten-day Inter-Faculty Sports Competition organised by the Games and Sports Department, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) held today at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex of the university. The competition was organised from 10th-21st March as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) was the Chief Guest of the function. Major General SP Vishwasrao SM**, Additional Director General, Delhi Directorate, NCC and Shri Shah Faesal, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India were the Guests of Honour of the function.
The Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour distributed trophies and medals to the winning and runner-up teams of Football, Vollyball, Badminton (Women & Men), Table Tennis(Women & Men) and Basketball (Women & Men) events. The function was attended by Deans of the Faculties; Heads of the Departments, teachers, non-teaching staff and students of the university.
The function began with the welcoming of the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and other dignitaries by Prof. Waseem Khan, Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI & Convenor of the tournament.
Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI praised the great efforts of the Office of the Games & Sports, JMI and the Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI for successfully organising the tournament.
The Vice Chancellor also gave away medals and trophies to the winning and runner-up team members of the JMI staff cricket match which was also organised as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. Vice Chancellor’s XI won the match by defeating Registrar's XI in this friendly match.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI.
