AMU Commemorates Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s Death Anniversary with Solemn Observance
ALIGARH, March 27: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) paid homage to its founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, on his 128th death anniversary with solemn observances marked by Quran Khwani at the Jama Masjid and floral tributes at his Mazar.
The ceremony brought together senior university officials, faculty members, students and staff, who gathered to honour the legacy of a visionary reformer whose ideas laid the foundation of modern education among Indian Muslims.
Remembered as a pioneering architect of educational and social transformation, Sir Syed championed the cause of scientific temper and rational inquiry at a time of deep socio-political transition. Through the establishment of the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, he initiated a movement that evolved into Aligarh Muslim University, shaping generations of scholars and leaders.
His contributions extended beyond education to fostering communal harmony and intellectual awakening. His enduring vision of blending tradition with modernity continues to define the academic and cultural ethos of the university.
Paying tribute, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon said that Sir Syed’s legacy remains deeply relevant in contemporary times, inspiring institutions to pursue knowledge with purpose and social responsibility.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Mohsin Khan noted that Sir Syed’s emphasis on modern education and progressive thought continues to guide the university’s academic mission and outreach.
