27th ICOM General Conference held at the Dubai World Trade Center

Museology Professor and Research Scholar Advocate AI-Driven Heritage Preservation at ICOM’s Global Conference in Dubai

Aligarh, November 21: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) made a distinguished mark at the 27th ICOM General Conference held at the Dubai World Trade Center recently, where museum leaders, researchers, and professionals from over 135 countries convened to shape “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.” The prestigious global gathering, attended by nearly 5,000 participants, explored how museums worldwide can harness artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to address rapid demographic, societal, and environmental transformations.

Representing AMU, Prof. Abduraheem K., Chairperson, Department of Museology, and Ms. Farha, Senior Research Fellow, delivered a forward-looking presentation on integrating AI-driven innovations into museum practices. Their paper emphasized the urgent need to employ cutting-edge technologies to safeguard intangible heritage and promote community engagement through interactive, immersive, and participatory museum experiences. They advocated shifting the focus from solely preserving tangible collections to adopting AI-enabled strategies that bring cultural narratives alive for diverse audiences.

The conference opened with honorary addresses by eminent dignitaries, including Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, H.E. Sheikh Salem Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, and H.E. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to cultural innovation. Leaders such as H.E. Hala Badri and H.E. Rakan Altouq  highlighted the growing importance of global cultural collaboration.

During the event, Prof. Abduraheem K. also engaged in meaningful discussions with Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, exploring avenues for collaborative museum development between India and the UAE. The dialogue signals promising prospects for joint initiatives aimed at advancing museum infrastructure, promoting innovation, and strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

AMU’s participation at ICOM Dubai 2025 highlights its expanding global footprint and commitment to advancing museum studies through research, innovation, and international engagement.
