AMU Vice Chancellor Undertakes Strategic Visit to the USA to Enhance Academic                                          Collaboration and Alumni Engagement

In a far-reaching international outreach, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), undertook a series of academic and alumni engagements across the United States to strengthen global partnerships in higher education, expand research collaborations, and consolidate the university’s long-standing relationship with its international alumni community.

At the 24th Annual Convention of the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations (FAAA) and the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Aligarh Alumni Association, Washington DC (AAADC), held at Rockville, Maryland, Prof. Khatoon delivered the keynote address as Chief Guest. She highlighted AMU’s ascent among India’s top ten universities, describing it as the outcome of sustained dedication to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation. Calling the alumni “the living embodiment of Sir Syed’s mission of enlightenment and unity through education,” she urged them to continue strengthening the university’s legacy of service and scholarship. The convention’s deliberations on innovation, data-driven education, and women’s leadership reflected AMU’s academic vision for a changing world.

During her visit to Atlanta, Prof. Khatoon was honoured by the Georgia State Senate for her exceptional leadership and contributions to higher education. Senator Sheikh Rahman presented her with a Senate Appreciation Letter acknowledging her distinction as AMU’s first woman Vice Chancellor. At the Georgia Institute of Technology, she held discussions with Prof. Mushtaque Ahamad, Interim Chair, School of Cybersecurity and Privacy, and Prof. Raghupathy Sivakumar, Vice President of Commercialization, exploring future collaborations in innovation, technology integration, and academic exchange. She also met Mr. Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan, Consul General of India in Atlanta, who appreciated AMU’s inclusive educational model and expressed interest in facilitating Indo-US university partnerships.

Prof. Khatoon later addressed the 6th Biennial Reunion of the Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America (AMAANA) in Washington DC as Chief Guest, where the JNMC Cancer Centre Initiative was discussed as a landmark collaborative effort to establish AMU’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College as a centre of excellence in oncology research and treatment. Commending AMAANA’s sustained philanthropic and academic support, she reaffirmed the university’s full commitment to this transformative healthcare initiative.

In New York, she met with faculty at Stony Brook University’s Renaissance School of Medicine, including Dr. Aaron Sasson, Director of the Stony Brook Cancer Centre, to explore academic and technical cooperation in medical sciences. The meeting paved the way for a forthcoming tri-partite dialogue between Stony Brook University, JNMC, and AMAANA to develop a strategic plan for the proposed Cancer Centre.

The Aligarh Alumni Association of New York (AAANY) also hosted a cultural and academic evening in her honour, attended by alumni from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Prof. Khatoon lauded their contributions to education, research, and community service, while acknowledging AAANY’s ongoing collaboration with the City University of New York (CUNY) on an early childhood intervention project as “a model of research that unites compassion with scholarship.”

Prof. Naima Khatoon’s visit reaffirmed AMU’s vision of academic excellence anchored in social responsibility. By integrating intellectual partnership with alumni collaboration, the Vice Chancellor strengthened AMU’s global presence, renewed institutional goodwill, and laid the foundation for future cooperation in science, technology, and healthcare, upholding the spirit of Taleem-o-Tarbiyat in the global arena.

Mr. Omar Peerzada, the Public Relations Officer, Aligarh Muslim University, was also present during deliberations in these events.
