7th Edition of Jamia Premier League-2026 concludes Amid Great Enthusiasm; Renowned cricket coach and former Ranji Trophy player Shri Raj Kumar Sharma is the Chief Guest of the grand closing ceremony
The Games & Sports Department, Jamia Millia Islamia, organized the 7th Edition of the Jamia Premier League-2026 (A Staff T-20 Cricket Tournament) from 26th March, 2026 to 23rd April, 2026 for the Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff of JMI on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
The Opening Ceremony of the JPL-2026 was held on 26th March, 2026 at the Sports Complex, JMI in the presence of Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, JMI (Chief Patron, JPL-2026), Mrs. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI (Patron, JPL-2026), Prof. Mohd. Mahfuzul Haque, Chairman, Sports Committee, JMI (Organizing Chairman, JPL-2026), Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Director, Games & Sports, JMI (Organizing Secretary, JPL-2026), Prof. Mohammad Abid, Dy. Director, Games & Sports, JMI (Tournament Coordinator, JPL-2026), Core Committee Members, JPL-2026 and Faculty and non-teaching staff members of JMI.
In the 7th Edition of JPL, record 21 teams and around 350 staff members participated with full enthusiasm from the various Faculties/Centres and administrative offices of JMI namely:-

The following quarter-final matches were played between the following teams:-

4. F/o Engineering & Technology and Provost’s Office (Winner: Provost’s Office)
The following semi-final matches were played between the following teams:-
1. University Polytechnic and Provost’s Office (Winner: University Polytechnic)
2. Jamia Schools and F/o Architecture (Winner: F/o Architecture)
The final match was played on 23rd April, 2026, at 4:30 P.M. between the University Polytechnic and the Faculty of Architecture, Team Polytechnic. Team Architecture won their maiden JPL Title. Team Architecture performed magnificently throughout the tournament and remained unbeaten.
The closing & prize distribution ceremony of the JPL-2026 held on 23rd April, 2026 (7:30 P.M.) at the Sports Complex, JMI under the patronage and mentorship of Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, JMI and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI. Shri Raj Kumar Sharma (Dronacharya Awardee) and Coach of Indian Cricket Legend – Shri Virat Kohli graced the occasion as the chief guest. Besides this, Prof. Mohd. Mahfuzul Haque, Chairman, Sports Committee, JMI, Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Director, Games & Sports, JMI, Prof. Mohammad Abid, Dy. Director, Games & Sports, JMI,,Prof. Mohd. Asal Malik, Chief Proctor, JMI, Prof. Zubair Menia, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Nadeem Yunus, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, JMI, Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Director, CIE JMI, Dr. Mohsin Ali, D/o Persian, JMI, Mr. Viqar Husain Siddiqui, Coordinator of NSS, JMI, other faculty members and non-teaching staff of JMI were a part of the event.
Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of JMI, congratulated all the teams of JPL-2026 and encouraged all the faculty and staff members to participate in sports for physical fitness. He congratulated the winning team and appreciated the sportsman spirit of all the participants during the conduct of the tournament. Prof. Mazhar Asif applauded the outstanding performance of the winners of JPL-2026. He wished the runners-up team and all participating teams of JPL-2026 the very best for their future tournaments. Prof. Mazhar Asif appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and all the staff of the Games & Sports Department to organize such an entertaining and fitness-oriented event for the university staff members.
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI, highlighted the importance of incorporating sports into one's daily routine. He added that physical activity and sports are vital for work-life balance, as they significantly reduce stress, increase energy, and boost the mental health of the staff. "Regular physical activity enhances focus, improves productivity, and fosters better sleep, while team sports strengthen collaboration," Prof. Rizvi said. He congratulated the winning team and all the participants of the JPL-2026 and of the tournament.
Shri Raj Kumar Sharma (Chief Guest) appreciated the initiative of the university administration to organize the JPL (staff cricket tournament) for the staff members for a healthy work life and a high-performing workforce. Such sporting activities for staff foster positive relationships and more productive teamwork while promoting diversity. He congratulated all the participants of the JPL-2026 and the winners of the tournament.
Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI, outlined a brief report on the JPL-2026. He lauded the fairness of officials and the core team to conduct JPL-2026. He said that during the tournament, hundreds of spectators, including senior faculty members, were present in league matches at the Sports Complex and Jamia School Ground. Both teaching and non-teaching staff played with keen interest and enthusiasm by sacrificing their weekends and holidays to make this mega staff tournament a grand success.
