AMU Professor Contributes to UNESCO and Brill International Projects
ALIGARH, April 23: Prof. Mohd Sanaullah Nadwi, Department of Arabic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has contributed to prestigious international academic projects of UNESCO (Paris) and Brill (Leiden and Boston), highlighting his scholarship in Arabic language and cultural studies.
Prof. Nadwi contributed to UNESCO’s Silk Roads Programme, which explores the role and legacy of the Arabic language along historic trade routes. His work, focusing on the history of Arabic language in the Indian subcontinent, features in the volume Storytelling, Seafaring, and Travel Writing: The Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. The publication underscores Arabic’s role as a medium of cultural exchange, intellectual dialogue and civilizational connectivity across regions.
He has also contributed to Brill’s volume Hindis and Africans across the Indian Ocean, where his research examines cross-cultural interactions through Arabic, Persian and Urdu travelogues, offering insights into maritime history and cultural exchanges across the Indian Ocean world.
A noted scholar of Arabic language and comparative literature, Prof. Nadwi has authored over a dozen books in English, Arabic and Urdu, along with more than 200 research papers and articles.
