Prof. Shagufta Imtiaz to Perform Duties of Principal, AMU Women’s College

ALIGARH, September 17: Prof. Shagufta Imtiaz, senior-most Professor at the Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been allowed to perform the duties of Principal, Women’s College, with effect from September 17, 2026. She will continue to look after the duties of Principal until August 6, 2027, the date of her superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A Professor of English, Prof. Imtiaz has been associated with teaching for over 39 years and has served as Professor since 2006. She began her teaching career at the undergraduate level in September 1987 and has also taught at the postgraduate level since 1994. She holds a Ph.D. in English Language Teaching from AMU, which she completed in 1995.

Her academic and administrative experience includes serving in various capacities at the Women’s College, including Section In-Charge of the English Section, Coordinator of the MA ELT programme and entrance examination, In-Charge of the Time Table Committee and Magazine Committee, and Coordinator/Co-Coordinator of the College Founders’ Day programmes. She has also served on the NAAC and IQAC Committee and undertaken several other academic and administrative responsibilities.

Prof. Imtiaz’s areas of academic interest include English Language Teaching, multilingualism and ESL classrooms, writing and identity, and language and gender. She has supervised 14 Ph.D. theses and more than 24 MA (ELT) dissertations, besides contributing extensively to research and academic activities.
