               Jamia Millia Islamia Hosts FDP on ICT and Emerging Technologies                                 for Teachers, Teacher Educators, and Pupil Teachers

The Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia, in collaboration with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, organized a successful one-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “ICT and Emerging Technologies for Teachers, Teacher Educators, and Pupil Teachers” on September 24, 2025. Held in the department’s Old Hall, the event drew over 115 participants including faculty members, research scholars, and pupil teachers, who engaged in extensive sessions focused on the integration of technology in education.

The programme opened with a Qur’anic recitation by research scholar Inzamamul Haque, followed by a welcome address from Prof. Kaushal Kishore, Head of the Department. He emphasized the crucial role of ICT in modern education and reiterated the department’s commitment to equipping educators with contemporary digital skills. Prof. Jessy Abraham, Dean of the Faculty of Education, chaired the session and applauded the initiative, stressing that ICT integration is essential for effective pedagogy in today’s digital age.

The keynote address by Prof. Khurram Mustafa underscored the urgency for teachers to adopt ICT, famously stating, “Teachers must either learn ICT or be prepared to become irrelevant.” He highlighted that, with the rise of artificial intelligence, educators are no longer sole knowledge bearers but facilitators in technology-enhanced learning environments. This set an inspiring tone for the day’s activities.

The technical sessions provided a well-rounded insight into ICT’s role in education. Pro. Shireesh Pal Singh of CIET-NCERT began with a session on “Digital Initiatives,” connecting national policy goals like the National Education Policy 2020 to practical classroom applications, emphasizing digital tools’ potential to democratize education and foster inclusivity.

Dr. Pranita Gopal then led a dynamic, interactive session on “Use of AI/AR/VR and other ICT tools in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.” She demonstrated how immersive technologies and AI can enhance engagement, personalize learning, and revolutionize assessment methods, inspiring participants to implement these tools in their own teaching contexts.

After lunch, Prof. Gaurav Singh discussed “Instructional Design,” focusing on aligning learning objectives with activities and assessments through ICT. He provided practical strategies to help educators integrate technology seamlessly into lesson plans and curricula, encouraging reflective practice among attendees.

The final technical session was delivered by Prof. Jagpreet Kaur from Punjabi University on “Open Educational Resources” (OER). She highlighted how OER platforms empower educators and students by providing free, accessible learning materials, reducing reliance on costly textbooks, and encouraging contributions to the global educational resource pool. Her session broadened participants’ perspectives on collaborative knowledge sharing.

The day concluded with a valedictory session where Prof. Kaushal Kishore expressed gratitude to resource persons, coordinators Dr. Md Musa Ali and Dr. Ali Haider, and institutional leaders for their support. Dr. Ali Haider gave the vote of thanks, acknowledging the entire team’s efforts, while Amreen Parveen and Sana expertly anchored the event.

The FDP was widely praised for its practical and transformative approach, meeting the growing demand for ICT training among educators. It reinforced that digital literacy and adaptability are essential in the rapidly evolving educational landscape. Overall, the programme demonstrated Jamia Millia Islamia’s dedication to academic innovation and professional development, leaving participants empowered and motivated to integrate emerging technologies into their teaching.
