AMU Dental College Professor Speaks at AOMSI Delhi NCR Annual Conference
Prof. Ghulam Sarwar Hashmi of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Z. A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), participated as a panelist in the 9thAnnual Conference of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI), Delhi NCR State Chapter, held in Meerut.
Prof. Hashmi contributed to the Trauma Panel, where he discussed emerging trends in the reconstruction of maxillofacial regions affected by gunshot and bullet injuries. He highlighted the role of free flaps in such cases, underlining that vascularised free fibula remains the gold standard for mandibular reconstruction.
In a case-based discussion, he elaborated on approaches to managing parotid sialocoele and fistula, and further emphasized the retro-mandibular approach in the fixation of sub-condylar fractures.
He also stressed the importance of adopting advanced techniques such as Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) and Patient Specific Implants (PSI) for the reconstruction of post-traumatic maxillofacial defects, which he noted significantly improve outcomes in complex surgical cases.
