AMU Observes Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi with Grand Gathering and Seerat   Exhibition

Aligarh, September 5: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) commemorated Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi with a solemn and thought-provoking event held at Kennedy Hall, presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon. The main programme featured speeches by prominent Islamic scholars, while the event was marked by the inauguration of a Seerat Exhibition of books, manuscripts, artefacts and specimens of Islamic calligraphy at the university’s Maulana Azad Library.                                                                                 The guest speaker, renowned Hadith scholar Maulana Khalid Nadwi Ghazipuri from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow emphasized the importance of studying the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, urging students and youth to follow his exemplary conduct to lead meaningful and successful lives. He cited the example of AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, who travelled to London and authored Khutbat-e-Ahmadiya in defense of the Prophet, showcasing his unwavering love and faith. For this journey, Sir Syed sold his belongings. Maulana Nadwi urged the youth to take inspiration from Sir Syed's example.

He also recounted the deep love the Sahaba (Prophet’s Companions) had for the Prophet, the events of the Hijrah (migration), and their adherence to the Prophet’s model life. He stressed the need to connect with the Holy Qur’an, as it was revealed to guide people towards success.

The second guest speaker, Maulana Muhammad Mohsin, Principal of Waseeqa Arabic College, Faizabad, Ayodhya, highlighted the Prophet’s practical leadership. He noted that the Prophet presented a model life through his actions before delivering his message and inviting others towards goodness and the path of Allah. He said the Prophet lived as a practical example for the first 40 years of his life and then preached and called people to action for the next 23 years. This shows that action precedes theory.

Maulana Mohsin stressed that true reform and societal transformation stem from ethical conduct, patience, and righteous deeds. He added that it was the power of good character, ethics, and patience that transformed Arab society. He emphasized that it is not the quantity but the quality of deeds that matters. He noted that the Qur’an is a book of self-purification, knowledge, and wisdom, and urged the audience to stay connected to it to purify both heart and mind.

In her presidential remarks, Professor Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, AMU described the Prophet’s teachings as timeless guidance for all of humanity. She highlighted that the Prophet was sent as a mercy to all worlds and provided solutions to the moral and social challenges of his time. Reflecting on the 1500th anniversary of the Prophet’s birth, she encouraged introspection on whether society today embodies the values he taught—justice, mercy, transparency, and protection of rights.

She mentioned that Sir Syed Ahmad Khan sought to present the Prophet’s life from a rational perspective, stating that none of the Prophet’s teachings go against human intellect.

Professor Khatoon said, “The Seerah of the Prophet gives a clear message: establish justice, prioritize mercy, ensure transparency in economics, and protect the rights of women and the oppressed. Let us pledge on this blessed occasion to implement the Prophet’s principles in our lives, homes, and markets. Let’s talk about mercy, respect women, care for orphans and the poor, and humanize our economic system. This is the path to building a just society and the most sincere tribute we can offer to the greatest man of all time—our beloved Prophet.”

She also congratulated the organizers for the successful execution of the event.

Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Mohsin Khan encouraged youth to read Islamic literature and explore digital platforms to stay connected with Islamic teachings.

Earlier in the day, Professor Mohammad Habibullah, Dean, Faculty of Theology welcomed guests and underscored the significance of the event. The students presented Na’at.

AMU Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran, IPS, offered a vote of thanks, while Professor Mohammad Rashid, Chairman of the Sunni Theology Department, conducted the programme.

A major highlight was the inauguration of a Seerat Exhibition at Maulana Azad Library’s Central Hall by the Vice Chancellor. The exhibition features rare books, Qur’anic manuscripts, and exquisite examples of Islamic calligraphy related to the life of the Prophet. University Librarian Professor Nishat Fatima and several faculty members were present at the event.
