AMU Geographical Society Holds Workshop on Research Methodology and Academic Writing
The Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the AMU Geographical Society, organised a one-day workshop on Research Methodology, Dissertation and Thesis Writing, Data Collection, Literature Review and Research Ethics to strengthen research skills among undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scholars.
Prof Shahab Fazal, Chairperson, Department of Geography, welcomed the participants and appreciated the Geographical Society’s initiative in organising the academic deliberation. The inaugural session was graced by Prof Sartaj Tabasum, Dean, Faculty of Science, who underscored the importance of rigorous research practices and academic integrity.
Prof Sajid Jamal from the Department of Education delivered a lecture on data collection and literature review, emphasising appropriate research tools and critical engagement with existing scholarship. Dr Mohammad Aslam of the Department of Political Science discussed dissertation and thesis writing, highlighting structure, clarity and originality. Prof Mohd Akram from the Department of Sociology elaborated on research designs and qualitative and quantitative approaches in social sciences. Dr Faiza Abbasi, Programme Director, UGC-MMTTC, spoke on research ethics, stressing originality, plagiarism prevention and responsible data handling.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where certificates were distributed to participants. Coordinators Dr Saleha Jamal and Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Siddiqui outlined the objectives and expressed gratitude to the speakers and attendees. The programme witnessed active participation from students, scholars and faculty members.
