AMU ZHCET Hosts Inspiring Talk on Leadership and Inclusion
The IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Centre for Integrated Green and Renewable Energy and LedBy Foundation, organized an invited talk titled “Breaking the Default,” aimed at promoting leadership, inclusion, and entrepreneurial thinking among young professionals and aspiring engineers. Around 150 students from across the university attended the programme, reflecting strong academic interest and engagement.
The keynote lecture by Dr. Ruha Shadab, associated with McKinsey & Company and founder of LedBy Foundation, proved highly inspiring. Drawing from her professional journey, she urged participants to question stereotypes, embrace individuality, and cultivate skills that enable them to lead in diverse global environments. Her address was followed by an engaging interactive session where students raised questions on career pathways, leadership challenges, and personal growth strategies.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Safia Akhtar Kazmi, Faculty Advisor IEEE WIE and Coordinator CGRE, who highlighted the growing need for inclusive professional spaces and encouraged students to challenge conventional career barriers. She stressed that platforms fostering dialogue and mentorship are essential for nurturing confidence, creativity, and resilience among youth.
Principal ZHCET, Prof. Mohammad Muzammil noted that such initiatives strengthen academic culture by combining technical excellence with leadership development. He emphasized that exposure to accomplished professionals motivates students to expand their ambitions and actively contribute to society through innovation and responsible leadership.
The programme also featured professional media documentation by filmmaker Aditya Seth and his team, ensuring broader outreach of the initiative. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Qurratulain, Outreach Coordinator IEEE WIE Affinity Group, who expressed appreciation to the speakers, collaborators, organizers, and participants for making the programme impactful and memorable.
