SPG Director Alok Sharma Urges AMU Engineering Students to Focus on Applied Engineering Knowledge at ZHCET Project Expo

PG Director Alok Sharma Urges AMU Engineering Students to Focus on Applied Engineering Knowledge at ZHCET Project Expo

ALIGARH, May 23: Shri Alok Sharma, Director General of Police, Director, SPG, Government of India, and distinguished alumnus of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, urged AMU engineering students to equip themselves with practical and applied knowledge of their disciplines and strive for excellence in their core professional areas.

He was addressing the inaugural function of Project Expo 2025–26 organised by the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), showcasing innovative projects and technical excellence of students from various engineering disciplines.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Alok Sharma described engineering as an applied science and observed that technical education must focus on solving real-world problems and contributing to technological advancement and nation-building. Appreciating the innovative projects displayed by the students, he encouraged them to combine theoretical understanding with practical applications and industry-oriented skills.

The Guest of Honour, General Secretary, Tala Nagri Industrial Development Association (TNIDA), Aligarh, Mr. Sunil Dutta, stressed the need for closer coordination between academia and industry and suggested the introduction of short-term professional courses and call centres to transform educational institutions from “learning centres into earning centres.” Encouraging students to focus on the innovative dimensions of engineering, he expressed hope that Aligarh would evolve from its present identity as Tala Nagri into a Tech Nagri through technological innovation and skill-driven development.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd Mohsin Khan visited the exhibition stalls and interacted with students. He lauded the efforts of the organisers and participants in promoting innovation, research culture and interdisciplinary learning within the university.

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Mohd Hasan, said that such academic initiatives provide students with opportunities to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions and help cultivate a culture of research, creativity and technological excellence within the institution.

Principal, ZHCET, Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, said that the expo aimed to provide students with a platform to demonstrate their ideas, practical knowledge and engineering capabilities. He observed that such initiatives help bridge the gap between classroom learning and technological challenges faced by industry and society.

The exhibition featured projects from the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Architecture and Petroleum Studies. The projects focused on contemporary themes including Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, Robotics, Automation, Smart Technologies, Sustainable Development and Industrial Applications.

A special felicitation ceremony was also organised to honour students for outstanding achievements in academics, research, placements and higher studies. Among the major highlights, Irshad Ahmad was felicitated for securing placement in Black Box AI with a package of ₹3.3 crore per annum. Students were also honoured for prestigious internships, GATE performance, research publications, conference presentations and higher education selections.

The results of the competitive project presentations were also announced during the expo. In Computer Engineering, the first prize was jointly awarded to the teams of Mohammad Suhail and Faran Imam, and Mohammad Faiz Umar and Nitish Mudgal, while the team of Shahwaiz Islam and Baquar Hassan secured the second prize.

In Electronics Engineering, the team of Ahmad Ilyas and Umar Ali Khan won the first prize, while the second prize went to the team of Vikas Vishwakarma and Aatif Aftab. The third prize was awarded to the team of Yashra Malik and Neha Bano.

In Mechanical Engineering, the team of Affan Khan and Saif Shakeel secured the first prize, while the teams of Arbaz Rashid, Sheikh Noorul A. Usmani and Mobashir Raza, and Muhammad Hassan, Md. Shafatullah and Mohd Qasim shared the second prize. The team of Sadat ul Hassan and Deepansh Gupta received the third prize.

In Civil Engineering, the team of Shailendra Kumar and Sahil Verma claimed the first prize, while Mohd Faraz Khan and Md Arman Alam won the second prize. The third prize was shared by the teams of Saadul Haq and Khalid Khan, and Mariam Malik and Divya Pratap Pundhir.

In Electrical Engineering, Sidra Suhail won the first prize, while the team of Mohd Fahad, Yash Shukla, Zaid Ahmad Khan and Mohd Hamza secured the second prize. The team of Sameeha Nisa Halder, Moniba Sultana, Murtza and Asif Akbar received the third prize.

In Artificial Intelligence, the first prize was awarded to Syed Fawaz Ayazi and Naushin Perween, while the second prize was shared by the teams of Ameena Ahmad and Fouzia Khan, and Mohammad Arquam and Mohammad Hasan. The third prize went to the team of Syed Mohd Tashif and Abdul Hadi Zeeshan.

Among Petroleum Studies projects, the first prize went to Mohd Anas Adnan, Bittu Kumar Chouhan, Tabrej Alam and Shahrukh Saifi. The team of Muhammad Arafat Iqbal, Mir Mohd Abdullah and Muhammad Husain claimed the second place, while the third prize went to the team of Aliya Rehman, Umair Ali Khan, Shahzeb Khan and Mohd Faraz Siddiqui.

In Chemical Engineering, the top award was secured by Ozaam Ahmad Siddiqui, Ayan Ahmad and Anas Iqbal. The second prize was shared by the teams of Sohaibullah Najmi, Richa Chaudhary and Nabeel Sherwani, and Mohd Asab, Ajay Singh Rathore and Suhail Abbas.

In Food Technology, the team of Syed Haider Abbas, Zaid Ahmad and Syed Ahmed Abdullah won the first prize, while the second prize went to the team of Areeba Chand, Mohammad Sahil Khan and Muhammad Kaif Siddiqui. The third prize was awarded to the team of Vivek Kumar, Digvijay Singh Chauhan and Mohammad Saif Ali.

In Architecture, Mujjassim Ahmad Bhati secured the first prize, Sheetal Varshney won the second prize, and Abdul Hannan Subhani received the third prize.

Project Expo Incharge Dr. Moina Athar appreciated the enthusiasm and innovative spirit displayed by the students and said that the event provided an excellent platform for young engineers to showcase their creativity, technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. She congratulated the participating students, faculty coordinators and volunteers for the successful organisation of the event. Dr. Ale Imran conducted the programme.
