Mind Matters Workshop Highlights Student Well-being at AMU
ALIGARH, May 2: A workshop titled “Mind Matters: Student Wellbeing Series” was organised at the Senior Secondary School (Girls), Aligarh Muslim University, bringing together students, educators and mental health professionals to underscore the importance of psychological well-being among young learners.
The programme, jointly organised by the Dean Students’ Welfare Office, the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, the Students’ Counselling Centre and the Inclusive Futures Foundation, was the fourth in the ongoing series, following earlier sessions at STS School, ABK Girls High School and Sayyid Hamid Senior Secondary School.
Welcoming the participants, Principal Ms Naghma Irfan greeted the collaborating institutions and resource persons. Prof M Athar Ansari, DSW, emphasised that a healthy mind forms the foundation of meaningful achievement and encouraged students to cultivate a supportive and self-aware community.
Prof Azra Musavi, Director ACWS, highlighted the significance of prioritising mental health among students, while Dr Juhi Gupta outlined the objectives of the initiative.
Dr Nasheed Imtiaz introduced key aspects of mental health and well-being, setting the tone for the workshop. This was followed by interactive sessions led by Dr Eisha Rahman on mindfulness practices, grounding techniques and stress management. Dr Heena Parveen discussed cognitive restructuring and guided imagery, while Dr Sarah Javed engaged participants with cognitive rehabilitation strategies and an interactive “gibberish meditation” exercise.
In her concluding remarks, Deputy DSW Prof Subuhi Khan stressed the need for continued dialogue and institutional support for student mental health. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Bushra Karamat.
