AMU Department of Ilaj bit Tadbeer Hosts National Workshop on Universal Health Coverage through Traditional Healing
ALIGARH, May 2: The Department of Ilaj bit Tadbeer, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College (AKTC), Aligarh Muslim University, organised a one-day national workshop on “Universal Health Coverage through Traditional Healing Practices,” highlighting the role of indigenous systems in ensuring accessible and holistic healthcare.
Prof Asim Ali Khan, President, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, Government of India, delivered the keynote address as Chief Guest, emphasising the integration of traditional healing into mainstream healthcare. Prof N. Zaheer Ahmad, Director General, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, stressed the need for scientific validation and encouraged young researchers to explore collaborative opportunities. The programme was presided over by Prof S. Shakir Jamil, former Director General, CCRUM.
Welcoming the participants, Prof Asia Sultana, Chairperson and Organising Secretary, underscored the importance of an integrated healthcare model to address emerging challenges, including geriatric care. Prof Mohd Anwar delivered the opening remarks. The event was also attended by Prof S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, and Prof Badrudduja Khan, Principal, AKTC.
The workshop featured academic sessions with experts from Unani and modern medicine, focusing on research, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. It concluded with a hands-on training session aimed at capacity building and skill development, along with prize distribution for poster competition winners.
The programme was conducted by Dr Saba Zaidi and Dr Safia Usmani, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr M. Saad Ahmad Khan.
