AMU’s K. A. Nizami Centre Holds Orientation Programme and Announces Essay Competition Results
ALIGARH, August 24: The K. A. Nizami Centre for Qur’anic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an orientation programme for newly admitted first-semester students of the B.A. and M.A. programmes in Qur’anic Studies and also announced the results of its Essay Writing Competition on “Gender Justice in the Qur’an”.
The orientation programme familiarised new students with the Centre’s academic programmes, curriculum, research opportunities and interdisciplinary approach to Qur’anic Studies. Dr. Arshad Iqbal delivered a presentation on the Centre’s academic profile, programmes, research activities and pedagogical objectives, and encouraged students to develop critical thinking, independent reading and scholarly inquiry. He also highlighted areas including Arabic language and linguistics, Tafsir, Qur’anic sciences, Islamic intellectual history, literature, ethics, philosophy and contemporary interdisciplinary scholarship.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Honorary Director, K. A. Nizami Centre for Qur’anic Studies, and was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students from different semesters.
The Centre also announced the results of its Essay Writing Competition on “Gender Justice in the Qur’an”, which received 70 entries: 40 in English, 15 in Urdu, 10 in Hindi and five in Arabic, from students, research scholars, teachers and learners from diverse academic backgrounds.
The first-position holders were SumaiyaMuhiuddin, B.Sc., Department of Zoology, AMU, in English; SariyaZameer, Research Scholar, Department of Arabic, AMU, in Urdu; Moshahid Jawed, B.A. LL.B., Department of Law, AMU, in Hindi; and Amina Bano, B.A. Qur’anic Studies, in Arabic.
Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai congratulated the winners and appreciated all participants for their scholarly contributions.
