Urdu Consumer Reporting Form for Adverse Drug Reactions Introduced at AMU’s JNMC

ALIGARH, August 24: The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has approved and introduced a consumer reporting form for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in Urdu, enabling Urdu-speaking patients and medicine users to report suspected adverse effects in their preferred language. The Urdu form will be available in addition to the consumer reporting forms already provided in 10 regional languages.

The initiative is aimed at making pharmacovigilance more accessible and inclusive, particularly in areas with significant Urdu-speaking populations, and is expected to strengthen public participation in reporting medicine-related safety concerns.

Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Coordinator, Regional Training Centre, Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and Materiovigilance Programme of India, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), played an important role in facilitating the introduction of the Urdu form. He had advocated before the IPC for extending the facility to Urdu-speaking communities.

Welcoming the development, Prof. Ziaur Rahman urged healthcare professionals to create awareness about the facility and encourage patients to report any unusual or adverse effects experienced after taking medicines. He said that wider ADR reporting would help in the timely identification of potential safety concerns and promote safer use of medicines.
