Faculty and students shine at APSICON 2024 held in Coimbatore

ALIGARH September 21: Prof Mohammed Fahud Khurram, Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University presented research paper, titled "Assessing the efficacy of Infrared Thermography in early detection and monitoring of deep tissue pressure injury," at the National Conference of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSICON 2024), recently held at Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

He also chaired a session on the reconstruction of perineal defects, benefitting the participants from his expertise in this intricate surgical field.

Prof. Imran Ahmad, a senior faculty member in the department, also participated in the conference and chaired multiple sessions.

Two resident doctors of the department also attended the conference and presented their papers, receiving appreciation from senior faculty members. Dr. Ketal Gupta, a senior resident, presented two papers and a poster, while Dr. Nimisha Singh, a second-year resident, presented her paper titled "Bridging Virtual and Physical Healing: Mixed Reality Therapy in Hand Trauma and Burns."

30 Researchers from JMI ranked in Stanford University’s list of World’s Top 2% Scientists

It is a matter of great pride for Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) that thirty of its researchers which includes faculty members and research scholars have been featured in the Stanford University’s list of World’s Top 2% Scientists.   

 As many as 4,635 researchers from India have been featured in the list of top 2% scientists worldwide. Globally, the list comprises 210,199 scientists from all fields who are in the top 2 per cent. Of these, there are 4,635 from India presenting 2.2%.

The coveted career-wise list includes 12 faculty members from JMI who make 1.2% of faculty presentations.

The career-wise list includes the names of Dr. Imran Ali (Chemistry). Dr. Shushant Ghosh (Nuclear and Particle Physics), Dr. Atiqur Rahman (Geography), Dr. Ahsan Haseeb (Dentistry), Dr. Abid Haleem (Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Sen Anjan A (Nuclear and Particle Physics), Dr. Md. Dr. Imran Ali retained the top position in India in the field of Analytical Chemistry.

The second list includes as many as 24 faculty members and 6 research scholars who have excelled in the last one year working in different fields of Science and Engineering. This presents true participation in scientific activities over the year globally. This accounts for 3.48% of faculty presentation.

Aligarh, September 12: A team consisting of Dr Shailendra Bhatnagar, Additional  Director/State TB Officer, State TB Cell, Medical and Health Directorate, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Hari Bhan Singh, In-charge, National Reference Laboratory and Head, Department of Epidemiology, JALMA, Agra, Dr. Praveen Kumar Pachouri, Microbiologist, NRL-JALMA, Agra, Dr. A. K. Awasthi, Microbiologist, IRL, Dr. Rahul Sharma, District Tuberculosis Officer and Dr. Sultana Ansar, WHO Consultant visited the Departments of Microbiology, and TB and respiratory diseases, JN Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) recently.

Dr. Bhatnagar and other team members also called on the AMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon and briefed her about the activities and future plans of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program-NTEP-Diagnostic Network- UP.

The team praised the Tuberculosis Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology, for its smooth and competent functioning. Dr. Bhatnagar also commended the efforts of the Departments of Microbiology and TB and Respiratory Disease in providing efficient care, diagnosis, and treatment to TB patients in Aligarh and surrounding eight districts.

A consultative meeting of the Chairpersons of various Departments, nodal officers T.B. and Dr. Shailendra Bhatnagar, and the team was also held under the supervision of Prof. Mohammad Shameem, Chairperson, Department of TB and Respiratory Diseases.

The State TB Officer appreciated that JNMCH is providing all the investigations free of cost to the MDR-TB patients.

QURAN CONFERENCE In AMU

 

             KA Nizami Centre Hosts Quran Conference in Collaboration with Zakat Foundation 

Aligarh, September 16:  The Khaliq Ahmad Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Zakat Foundation of India, organised a Quran Conference at the JNMC Auditorium. The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon, with special lectures delivered by Professor Aslam Parvez, former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, and Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood, President of the Zakat Foundation of India.

In his welcome address, Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Director of the Khaliq Ahmad Nizami Centre, highlighted the Centre's achievements and the purpose of the conference. He said; Quran is the divine book of guidance from Allah, serving as the primary source of knowledge. The Centre is dedicated to exploring the philosophical aspects of Quranic knowledge through research and teaching, and this conference was part of its ongoing academic programmes.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon reiterated in her inaugural speech that the Quran is the book of guidance from Allah. She reflected on AMU’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's vision of creating individuals equipped with both scientific knowledge and philosophical wisdom, with the core of their being rooted in faith.

Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood, a former senior bureaucrat and OSD of the Sachar Committee under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, delivered an insightful lecture on "Refreshing Our Divine Consciousness." Professor Aslam Parvez elaborated on the teachings of the Quran in shaping human behaviour and morality, highlighting Allah’s commands for ethical conduct.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Honorary teacher of Quranic Ecological Ethics at the KANCQS gave her feedback comments.

During the event, the book "How to Become Pious in the Light of Quranic Guidance ?"  by Adeel Akhtar, Director of the Zakat Foundation of India, was launched.. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Shariq Aqeel.

एएमयू ---विश्व आत्महत्या रोकथाम दिवस

 

विश्व आत्महत्या रोकथाम दिवस पर एएमयू कुलपति ने जागरूकता मार्च का नेतृत्व किया

अलीगढ़, 10 सितंबरः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय की कुलपति प्रोफेसर नईमा खातून ने विश्व आत्महत्या रोकथाम दिवस पर जागरूकता मार्च का नेतृत्व कियाजिसमें भाग लेने वाले छात्रों ने आत्महत्या रोकथाम उपायों को प्रभावी ढंग से अपनाने और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य मुद्दों से निपटने की आवश्यकता पर प्रकाश डालते हुए तख्तियां दिखाईं और नारे लगाए।

मनोविज्ञान विभाग द्वारा अध्यक्ष प्रो. शाह आलम के मार्गदर्शन में आयोजितदिन भर की गतिविधियों में व्याख्याननारा लेखन और पोस्टर मेकिंग की प्रतियोगिताएं भी शामिल थीं।

प्रो. नईमा खातून ने इस कार्यक्रम की सराहना और समर्थन व्यक्त करते हुए जोर दिया कि आत्महत्या एक बहुत ही परेशान करने वाली और जटिल समस्या है जो लोगों व उनके परिवारों और बड़े पैमाने पर प्रभावित करती है। उन्होंने आत्महत्या रोकथाम के लिए हर स्तर पर मजबूत प्रणाली बनाये जाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया।

प्रो. रफीउद्दीनडीएसडब्लू और अन्य शिक्षक भी जागरूकता मार्च में शामिल हुएजो कला संकाय लॉन से शुरू होकर विश्वविद्यालय के प्रशासनिक ब्लॉक पर समाप्त हुआ।

इससे पूर्व मनोविज्ञान विभाग में आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में विभागाध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर शाह आलम ने भारत के साथ-साथ वैश्विक स्तर पर विभिन्न आयु और सामाजिक समूहों के लोगों में आत्महत्या की व्यापकता को रेखांकित करते हुए एक व्याख्यान दिया। उन्होंने आत्महत्या के विभिन्न कारणों खासकर छात्रों द्वारा बहुत अधिक दबावपर्याप्त न कर पाने का दबाव और साथियों के बीच कड़ी प्रतिस्पर्धा पर प्रकाश डाला। प्रोफेसर शाह आलम ने दुख जताते हुए कहा कि अद्वितीय प्रतिभा और क्षमता होने के बावजूदमाता-पिता और बुजुर्ग अक्सर अपने बेटे और बेटियों से असाधारण स्तर की उपलब्धियों की उम्मीद करते हैं और अपने बच्चों की तुलना दूसरों से करते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि आत्महत्या करने वाले 70-72 प्रतिशत लोग पहले मौखिक संकेत देते हैंइसलिए माता-पिता और दोस्तों को सलाह दी जाती है कि वे अपने बच्चों और दोस्तों पर ध्यान दें। प्रोफेसर रूमाना एन. सिद्दीकी ने छात्रों सहित युवाओं के लिए उचित परामर्श सेवाओं की आवश्यकता पर जोर दियाजो इन दिनों बहुत अधिक दबाव का सामना कर रहे हैं। शीजा शोएब ने धन्यवाद व्यक्त किया। शफाक उस्मानी द्वारा जागरूकता गतिविधियों की मेजबानी की गईजबकि सना और सदफ ने मेहमानों और उपस्थित लोगों का स्वागत किया। इस अवसर पर प्रोफेसर अस्मा परवीनडॉ. नशीद इम्तियाजडॉ. रेशमा जमाल सहित विभाग के अन्य शिक्षक उपस्थित थे।

JMI organizes Free Physiotherapy Camp

 

CPRS, JMI organizes Free Physiotherapy Camp to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day

The Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences (CPRS), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised a Free Physiotherapy Camp on 8th September, 2024, at Hope Project Charitable Trust Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin, New Delhi. The Camp was organized under the supervision of Prof. Zubia Veqar and Faculty In-charges Dr. Moazzam Hussain Khan & Dr. Aqsa Mujaddadi. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap in healthcare by offering free professional physiotherapy to the underprivileged community. An exemplary team of faculties and clinical physiotherapists embraced the event. PhD scholars, MPT and BPT students served as volunteers. Through a dedicated team of physiotherapists and volunteers, the camp provided a range of treatments and consultations to help manage and alleviate various musculoskeletal and mobility issues.

By focusing on the needs of those less fortunate, the camp not only offered immediate relief but also raised awareness about the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining overall well- being. This camp demonstrated a strong commitment to serve the underprivileged section of the society reinforcing the spirit of community service and health equity. A total of 118 patients attended the physiotherapy camp and received much-needed care and guidance with a holistic approach. This initiative underscores the high demand for physiotherapy services in the local community.

कैंसर के इलाज पर नैनोमेडिसिन पर पुस्तक


कैंसर के इलाज पर नैनोमेडिसिन पर पुस्तक का कुलपति द्वारा विमोचन अलीगढ़ 9 सितंबरः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय की कुलपति, प्रोफेसर नईमा खातून ने इंटरडिसिप्लिनरी नैनोटेक्नोलॉजी सेंटर, एएमयू के डॉ. मोहम्मद अजहर अजीज द्वारा संपादित और स्प्रिंगर द्वारा प्रकाशित “कैंसर के इलाज के लिए व्यक्तिगत और सटीक नैनोमेडिसिन” पुस्तक का विमोचन कुलपति कार्यालय में किया। पुस्तक में कैंसर नैनोमेडिसिन कंसोर्टियम के सदस्यों द्वारा लिखित अध्याय शामिल हैं, जिसका गठन डॉ. मोहम्मद अजहर अजीज (संस्थापक निदेशक) की सिफारिश पर सदस्यों के रूप में प्रोफेसर अफजल अनीस (सर्जरी), प्रोफेसर मोहम्मद अकरम (रेडियोथेरेपी), प्रोफेसर मोहम्मद जसीम (पैथोलॉजी), प्रोफेसर राशिद अली (कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता), डॉ. हामिद अशरफ (एंडोक्राइनोलॉजी) और डॉ. हिफ्जुर आर सिद्दीकी (जूलॉजी) के साथ किया गया था। डॉ. अजीज ने बताया कि वर्ष 2023 में कैंसर के लिए विभिन्न विशेषज्ञता वाले लोगों को एक साथ लाने के लिए संघ का गठन किया गया था और उन्होंने अनुदान और शोध के रूप में इस उद्देश्य की पूर्ति में भरपूर योगदान दिया, जिससे पुस्तक का प्रकाशन संभव हो सका। उन्होंने कहा कि पुस्तक में 17 अध्याय हैं जो व्यक्तिगत और सटीक कैंसर चिकित्सा में एक व्यापक नैनोमेडिसिन दृष्टिकोण प्रदान करते हैं और अधिक जानकारी वेबपेज https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-97-3545-7 से प्राप्त की जा सकती है।

Sir Syed Academy to publish fully annotated editions of Hayat-e-Jawed and Mir Wilayat Husain’s autobiography

9 monographs under preparation to highlight the services of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan

Aligarh, September 4: The Sir Syed Academy at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to publish the fully annotated edition of Altaf Hussain Hali’s “Hayat-e-Jawed”, with footnotes, appendices and index, the first Urdu biography of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of AMU.

The Urdu autobiography of Mir Wilayat Husain, a colleague of Sir Syed and a teacher at Madrasatul-Uloom, which is an important reference for understanding the Aligarh Movement, is also being published with footnotes and annotations.

Prof Shafey Kidwai, Director, Sir Syed Academy told that Sir Syed stayed at several places including Agra, Benares, Ghazipur, Bijnor, Meerut, Moradabad, Calcutta, Nainital, Rohtak, Allahabad and Shimla etc. during his service and as a member of the Legislative Councils of the Viceroy and the Governor of the North-Western Provinces and Oudh. 9 monographs based on his activities in these cities are also under preparation. These books will be released on Sir Syed Day which falls on October 7, Prof Kidwai said.

He pointed out that Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, AMU took keen interest and advised to publish revised and updated editions of important books related to Sir Syed and Aligarh Movement.

Prof Kidwai said that Hayat-e-Jawed was first published in 1901. There was a need for indexing, corrections, annotations and footnotes pertaining to the persons, books and places mentioned in the book.

Soon after the first edition of Hayat-e-Jawed, commentaries and reviews on the book were written by luminaries of the time, including Maulana Habibur Rahman Khan Sherwani, Sir Abdul Qadir, Wahiduddin Saleem and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India. The revised and annotated edition will also carry these reviews.

The autobiography of Mir Wilayat Husain will also be published with notes and annotations. Dr. Asad Faisal Farooqi and Dr. Mukhtar Alam are working on these two books.

The Director, Sir Syed Academy added that Sir Syed’s stay at various cities carries value and significance for researchers of Aligarh Movement and Sir Syed studies, therefore the Academy took a decision to work on this project. As of now, nine monographs covering nine different cities are under preparation and some of these will be released on Sir Syed Day.

JMI’s Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School celebrates National Space Day

 First ‘National Space Day’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the country on 23rd August, 2024 and Jamia Girls Sr. Secondary School of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a number of activities on this occasion.  The day was commemorated to celebrate the successful landing of the ‘Vikram’ Lander on the Moon a year ago on 23rd August, 2023. Main event was held at Bharat Mandapam to inspire future scientists and engineers. This year's theme was "Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga.”

 

As part of the celebration, the Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon and ISRO Robotics Challenge were organised to motivate and inspire young minds. A group of girls from Jamia Girls Sr. Secondary School participated by creating commendable models based on Chandrayaan-3, Mangal Mission, and Satish Dhawan Space Centre. They also presented a painting depicting Life on Mars and a self-composed poem as a tribute to India’s space achievements. Students, guided by their TGT Science and Math teachers, worked diligently for an entire week to prepare the models under the guidance of Ms. Anjum Iqbal, the Principal of the school. The three girls had the opportunity to attend the ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, along with their dedicated teachers. The occasion was graced by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, as well as other luminaries like Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Space, and S. Somanath, the Chairman of ISRO.

 

During the event, the President appreciated the devoted scientists for their outstanding accomplishments. She also presented awards to the winners of ‘ISRO’s Robotics Challenge’ and ‘Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon’. The students had the unique opportunity to walk through various exhibitions set up by different ministries and departments like the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, etc. A fascinating display of different models provided students with an immersive experience of space technology.
