MU Faculty of Unani Medicine’s RIED Cell Organizes Lecture on Plant Protection in Medicinal Plant Standardization

ALIGARH, July 30: The Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (RIED) Cell, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an invited lecture today on "From Farm to Formulation: The Role of Plant Protection in Standardization and Quality Assurance of Medicinal Plants."

Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz introduced the guest speaker, Prof. Mohammed Mahmood, Department of Plant Protection, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia, who delivered the lecture. Prof. Mahmood highlighted the critical role of plant protection in ensuring the quality, efficacy, and safety of medicinal plants, particularly in Unani medicine, and stressed that scientific plant protection practices are essential for standardized herbal formulations. He encouraged students and young researchers to integrate agricultural sciences with pharmaceutical research for developing safe and quality-assured herbal products.

The lecture drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, research scholars, and students, who engaged actively during the question-and-answer session.

Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, appreciated the lecture and commended Prof. Mahmood for sharing his expertise, noting that such interactions strengthen research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A major highlight of the event was the release of the Faculty's research journal, Unani Medicus, Volume 9, Issue 1, attended by Editorial Board members Prof. Tanzeel Ahmad, Dr. Ammar Ibne Anwar, Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan, Dr. Arshi Riaz, and Dr. Sumbul Rehman.

Prof. Zamir Ahmad proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by Dr.Abiha Ahmad Khan.
