Harit Sarthi Abhiyan Motivates AMU Students to Champion Green Initiative

Cementing its commitment to environmental sustainability, the NSS Unit of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an awareness programme under the Harit Sarthi Abhiyan, a flagship initiative of the Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, being implemented under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in collaboration with Climate Par Charcha, Lucknow.

Held at the NSS AMU Unit Conference Hall, the programme inspired students to become active stakeholders in environmental conservation and afforestation. Welcoming the participants, Officiating NSS Coordinator, Dr. Abdul Jabbar, emphasized the urgent need for collective action to protect the environment through sustained tree plantation and conservation efforts.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nahid Akbari and a social worker Mr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan highlighted the ecological importance of increasing green cover and encouraged participants to adopt simple yet effective practices, including collecting seeds during the fruiting season and dispersing them responsibly in suitable open spaces and along roadsides to support natural afforestation.

Muhammad Kaif Siddiqui, Coordinator of the Harit Sarthi Abhiyan, outlined the objectives of the campaign and explained its vision of promoting environmental awareness and community participation across Uttar Pradesh. He also informed participants about the Harit Sarthi Quiz and the online environmental pledge drive.

More than 50 students took the environmental pledge, as commitment to protecting nature and adopting sustainable practices in their daily lives.

The programme reflected a collaborative effort of Climate Par Charcha, Lucknow, in partnership with AFTIR (Alliance for Food Technology Innovation & Research Trust),

The programme was convened and conducted by Dr. Fauzia Fareedi, Programme Officer, NSS AMU Unit.

The event concluded with a call upon students, faculty members, and citizens to actively participate in the Harit Sarthi Abhiyan and contribute towards building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Uttar Pradesh.
