 NTM, CIIL, Mysore and APDUMT, JMI collaborate to review and finalize Urdu Translation of CSIR-NIScPR popular science books

A Seven-day workshop on review and finalization of Urdu Translation of CSIR, NIScPR popular science books concluded today and in the Library-Cum-Committee Room of Urdu Academy, Noam Chomsky Complex, Jamia Millia Islamia. The workshop held from 8th July to 15th July,2026 focused on the revision and finalization of Urdu translation of CSIR-NIScPR popular science books. The titles of the science books which were finalized during the workshop are: ‘Artificial Intelligence’ by K.D. Pavate, ‘Inside Atoms’ by Alex Kothari and H.P. Tewari, ‘Mining the Oceans’ by P.K.S. Murthy, ‘Doing Science is Fun’ by V.G. Kulkarni, R. N. Bhagwat & V.G. Ghambhir and ‘Life in the Universe’ by M.S Chaddha & Bal Phondke.  

 

The Academy expressed sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of JMI,  Prof. Mazhar Asif and the esteemed Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, for all kinds of support and approval to conduct the workshop in collaboration with National Translation Mission, CIIL (Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Govt of India) Manasagangotri, Hunsur Road, Mysore.

 

In his opening remarks, Prof. Jasim Ahmad, Honorary Director, APDUMT, JMI, welcomed all the eminent resource persons who joined the workshop and the workshop coordinators Dr. Mohamad Naushad Alam, National Translation Mission, CIIL Mysore and local coordinator Dr. Naushad Alam, Translator, APDUMT, JMI.

 

He added that such academic endeavours mark our continued commitment to provide reliable and authentic texts to readers so that they may become good human beings as well as responsible citizens of the country.

 

Prof. Shoeb Abdullah (Retired) faculty of Education, JMI presided over the inaugural session of the workshop. While delivering chair remarks he said that “It is the duty of each and every resource person to do his/her duty wholeheartedly so that all kind errors may be avoided before sending the book for publication. As this workshop is being organized to review and finalize the Urdu Translation of popular science books so extra care is required while going through the given texts”.      

 

Dr. Mohamad Naushad Alam, Coordinator of the one week long workshop also welcomed all resource persons. He made a brief presentation about National Translation Mission (NTM) startling achievements since its inception in 2008 with a vision of making knowledge accessible to all by transcending language barriers, demonstrating knowledge and thereby creating a knowledge society. He also discussed many initiatives undertaken by NTM to provide authentic texts in all regional languages of India for wider benefits. 

 

During the workshop, resource persons engaged in both plenary discussions and subject specific groups, leading to constructive debates and exchanges of ideas on the developed content. This collaborative process facilitated the review of existing ones ensuring that the books become more accurate and authentic.

 

The workshop concluded today with thorough revision and finalization of Urdu translations of science popular books prepared by CSIR. Prof. Jasim Ahmad, Hony. Director, APDUMT, JMI chaired the last session of the workshop. He suggested that uniformity of the language and style is one of the most critical aspects of the translated version of any book. So due care is needed while reviewing and finalizing the given texts before sending it into the press.

 

The final manuscripts of the above-mentioned books handed over to workshop Coordinator, Dr. Mohamad Naushad Alam, NTM, CIIL, Mysore for further proceedings before sending it for publication. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by local Coordinator Dr. Naushad Alam, APDUMT, JMI.
