UP UK-APPICON 2026 Concludes at AMU with Valedictory Session

ALIGARH, April 5: The 13th Annual Meeting of the UP and UK Chapter of the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India (UP UK APPICON 2026) concluded at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with a valedictory session, marking the successful culmination of the two-day conference organised by the Departments of Pharmacology and Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

The session was attended by Chief Guest Prof. M. Mohsin Khan and Guest of Honour Prof. Vibha Sharma, along with Dr. Sumit Garg, Joint Secretary, UP UK APPI, and a large number of faculty members, speakers and delegates.

In his address, Prof. M. Mohsin Khan commended the organisers for conducting a well-coordinated and academically enriching conference, and emphasised the need for stronger integration of basic and clinical sciences to improve healthcare outcomes.

Prof. Vibha Sharma congratulated the organising team and encouraged young researchers to engage in innovative and interdisciplinary research.

Earlier, presenting the conference report, Organising Secretary Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman highlighted the key academic activities, including lectures, symposiums and numerous oral and poster presentations, centred on the theme “From Cells to Cures: Integrating Physiology and Pharmacology.”

The conference witnessed participation of over 300 delegates, including 38 invited speakers, with around 140 oral presentations and 70 posters from institutions across the country.

Awards were presented to outstanding oral and poster presenters, while certificates were distributed to participants.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tanuj Mathur, Joint Organising Secretary.

अलीगढ़, 5 अप्रैलः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय में कक्षा 6 और कक्षा 9 में प्रवेश हेतु आयोजित प्रवेश परीक्षाएं आज एएमयू में बने विभिन्न केंद्रों पर शांतिपूर्ण ढंग से सम्पन्न हुईं।
कुलपति प्रोफेसर नइमा खातून ने प्रॉक्टर प्रो. मोहम्मद नवेद खान एवं उनकी टीम के साथ परिसर में विभिन्न परीक्षा केंद्रों का दौरा कर व्यवस्थाओं का जायजा लिया और अभिभावकों से संवाद भी किया।
परीक्षाओं के सुचारु संचालन पर संतोष व्यक्त करते हुए प्रो. खातून ने शिक्षण एवं गैर-शिक्षण कर्मचारियों के प्रयासों की सराहना की और पूरे आयोजन के दौरान बेहतर समन्वय एवं अनुशासन बनाए रखने के लिए उन्हें बधाई दी।
कक्षा 9 की प्रवेश परीक्षा में 14,645 आवेदकों में से 12,326 अभ्यर्थी शामिल हुए यह प्रवेश परीक्षा 31 केन्द्रों पर आयोजित की गई जबकि कक्षा 6 में प्रवेश हेतु 8,695 अभ्यर्थियों ने आवेदन किया था। यह परीक्षा 16 परीक्षा केन्द्रों पर संपन्न हुई।
विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन ने बड़ी संख्या में अभ्यर्थियों की सुविधा सुनिश्चित करने तथा परीक्षा को बिना किसी असुविधा के सम्पन्न कराने के लिए व्यापक व्यवस्थाएं की थीं। सभी परीक्षा केन्द्रों पर आब्र्जबर भी नियुक्त किये गये।

ICECI-2026 Inaugurated at AMU, Showcasing Global Advances in Computational Intelligence

The 2nd International Conference on Emerging Computational Intelligence (ICECI-2026), organized by the Department of Computer Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the IEEE UP Section (India), commenced with an inaugural session at the Assembly Hall of University Polytechnic, AMU. The conference brought together eminent academicians, researchers, scholars, and students from across India and abroad to deliberate on recent advancements in computational intelligence and emerging technologies.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Patron, as Chief Guest; Prof. Mohammad Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, as Guest of Honour; Prof. Aasim Zafar, Conference Chair and Registrar; Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, Dean, Faculty of Science; Prof. Arman Rasool Faridi, Chairman, Department of Computer Science; and Prof. Abdul Quaiyum Ansari, Keynote Speaker (JMI)

The keynote address by Prof. Abdul Quaiyum Ansari focused on the advancements in Artificial Intelligence driven by enhanced computational power and the availability of vast datasets. He cautioned against overreliance on AI tools and stressed the importance of critical thinking and ethical application of technology. He highlighted the complexities of interpreting ambiguous data and emphasised the need for independent reasoning alongside technological advancement.

In her presidential address, Prof. Naima Khatoon lauded the achievements and growing global recognition of the Department of Computer Science and its alumni. She emphasized that while artificial intelligence is transforming the nature of work, it does not diminish employment opportunities but instead demands adaptability, continuous learning, and innovation. Encouraging participants to remain proactive, collaborative, and globally connected, she formally declared the conference open.

Prof. Mohammad Mohsin Khan acknowledged the pioneering contributions of early scholars who laid the foundation of computing at AMU, and urged students to actively engage in research, discussions, and global academic platforms.

In his welcome address, Prof. Aasim Zafar highlighted the scale and academic rigour of the conference, noting that out of 603 submissions, only 75 papers were accepted, reflecting a selective acceptance rate of about 13 percent. He also emphasised international participation, adherence to IEEE standards, and the conference’s well-structured technical sessions.

Prof. Arman Rasool Faridi, in his vision address, underscored the growing importance of computational intelligence in shaping modern technologies. He described the conference as a platform for innovation, linking it with national initiatives like Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and emphasized academia’s role in solving real-world challenges.

Prof. Sartaj Tabassum highlighted the evolution of computational infrastructure and noted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence in fields such as healthcare, drug discovery, and scientific research.

Dr. Asif Irshad Khan delivered a vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Ms. Anushka while the event was reported by a student team comprising Khushnood Bilal, Keshvi, Sadia Peerzada, Tuba Rahman, Zara Fatima Siddiqui, and Sadaf Jawed.

The Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the University of Oxford, organised the launch of “The Irfan Habib Collection of Mughal Studies at Oxford University,” marking a significant recognition of the eminent historian’s scholarly legacy.

Introducing the initiative, Prof. Nandini Chatterjee from the University of Oxford,outlined the scope of the digitisation project, highlighting how Prof. Habib’s extensive notes and archival material provide valuable insights into Mughal legal practices, local customs and documentary traditions, and underscore the importance of primary sources in historical research.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. Irfan Habib reflected on his academic journey and emphasised the centrality of primary sources in reconstructing history. He appreciated the digitisation effort as a significant step towards facilitating future scholarship.

Earlier, Prof. Hassan Imam, in his welcome address, stressed the importance of preserving and digitising scholarly work for wider academic access, while Dr. Gulrukh Khan, Convenor, highlighted Prof. Habib’s global stature and his enduring association with AMU.

Special remarks by Prof. Ishrat Alam, along with observations by Prof. Shireen Moosvi, Prof. Nadeem Rezavi and Prof. Farhat Hasan, underscored Prof. Habib’s methodological rigour and lasting contribution to Mughal studies and historiography.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Lubna Irfan. Proceedings were conducted by research scholars Ms. Shireen Khan and Mr. Hassanullah Khan.

AMU Hosts Student Research and Innovation Contest 2.0

ALIGARH, April 4: The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Centre for Integrated Green and Renewable Energy (CGRE), organised the Student Research and Innovation Contest 2.0 on the theme “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Engineering and Technology.”

Held in hybrid mode, the event was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Nesar Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Prof. Mohammad Muzzammil, Principal, ZHCET; and Prof. Yusuf Uzzaman Khan, Chairman, Department of Electrical Engineering. The programme was convened by Dr. Safia Akhtar Kazmi, Coordinator, CGRE and Faculty Advisor, IEEE WIE Affinity Group.

The contest witnessed participation from 22 teams comprising around 55 students from various engineering disciplines, out of which 14 teams were shortlisted for the final round following a rigorous screening process.

The paper presentation session was evaluated by Dr. Adil Sarwar, Dr. M. Saad Bin Arif, Dr. Nidal Rafiuddin, Dr. Faisal Jalil and Mr. Mohd Anas Anees, who appreciated the innovative ideas and research efforts of the participants.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mohammad Muzzammil highlighted the importance of innovation, research and interdisciplinary collaboration in engineering education and encouraged students to actively engage in research-oriented activities.

In the results, Harshit and Ishaan won the Best Paper Award in the Undergraduate category, while Maruja Zaki, Mehvish Fatma and Aira Arif secured the award in the Diploma Engineering category. Three special prizes were also awarded for outstanding physical models.

The event was coordinated by Dr.Qurratulain and Dr. Faizan Khalid along with the student team.

AMU Organises Quiz Competition on World Tuberculosis Day

 The Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a quiz competition on World Tuberculosis Day to enhance awareness and strengthen applied knowledge of tuberculosis among postgraduate residents.

The competition was conducted in two phases, with 13 teams participating in the preliminary round, out of which five qualified for the final round. The grand finale featured multiple segments, including MCQ, buzzer, visual mystery and rapid-fire rounds, testing participants on epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and national programmes related to tuberculosis.

The quiz was conducted by Dr. Mohd. Yasir Zubair, Dr. Syed Sohaib Hashmi and Dr. Surya Prakash Reddy Peram, and was compered by Dr.Mubah Dilshad. The event saw enthusiastic participation and active audience engagement.

Team “Niskhay Ninjas,” comprising Dr. Rohan Kaushik and Dr.ShahalnasKaramkundil, secured the first position, while Team “Myco Busters,” comprising Dr. Ayushi Gupta and Dr. C.K. Prabhakaran, finished as runners-up.

The winners were felicitated by Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson of the department, and Dr. Sameena Ahmad, who emphasised the importance of tuberculosis elimination and the role of healthcare professionals.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Danish Kamal and was attended by faculty members, reflecting the department’s commitment to academic excellence and public health awareness.

Aligarh, April 2: The Dr. Ambedkar Chair of Legal Studies and Research, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a one-day National Seminar on “Ambedkar’s Vision of Sustainability and Inclusive Growth in Viksit Bharat @2047: Law & Policy” on Monday, bringing together scholars, academicians, and policy thinkers from across disciplines.

 

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Zafar Ahmad Khan, Chair Professor of Ambedkar Chair, who highlighted the relevance of Dr. B R Ambedkar’s ideas in shaping a just and equitable society. He remarked, “Ambedkar’s vision continues to guide us in building an inclusive and sustainable framework for the nation’s future.”

 

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Mohd Nafees Ansari, Chairman, Department of Political Science, highlighted the intersection of law, governance, and social justice in achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat @2047. He noted, “Sustainable development must be rooted in inclusivity, ensuring that growth benefits every section of society.”

 

The Chief Guest, Prof. Aasim Zafar, Registrar, AMU, emphasized the importance of academic discourse in policy formulation and nation-building. He stated, “Universities play a crucial role in translating visionary ideas into actionable policies for an inclusive and progressive India.”

 

Conducted in a hybrid mode, the seminar featured five technical sessions, providing a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange. A total of 41 research papers were presented by participants from diverse fields, including law, social sciences, and international relations, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of Ambedkar’s vision.

  The sessions were effectively moderated by Dr. Mohd. Nasir, Dr. Saim Farooqui, and Dr. Syed Mohd. Yawar  

 

The seminar facilitated meaningful discussions on contemporary challenges and policy frameworks required to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth by 2047. Scholars deliberated on issues ranging from social equity and legal reforms to global perspectives on development.

 

The event concluded on a note of academic enrichment and collaborative engagement, reaffirming AMU’s commitment to promoting critical dialogue and research on themes of national importance.

Art Belleza 2026 Concludes at AMU with Enthusiastic Participation

Art Belleza 2026, an exhibition-cum-fest organised by the Department of Fine Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony, marking the successful culmination of the multi-day event.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon and Guest of Honour Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi, Founding Director, IPR, AMU. The fest drew a large number of visitors, including students, families and art enthusiasts, who appreciated the diverse artistic displays and lively ambience.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Naima Khatoon commended the department for its collective efforts and creativity, and assured support for further strengthening its infrastructure and development. Prof. Safavi also appreciated the initiative and the enthusiasm of the participants.

Earlier, the dignitaries were welcomed by faculty members and students. Volunteers, heads and co-heads were felicitated with certificates and mementos in recognition of their contributions. Dr. Abid Hadi, Chairperson of the Department and Convener of the fest, highlighted the significance of such platforms in nurturing artistic talent.

Fest Coordinator Adnan Khan, in his remarks, acknowledged the dedication and teamwork of students and organisers in making the event a success.

A highlight of the closing ceremony was the announcement of extending the fest by an additional day, approved by the Vice Chancellor, which was received with great enthusiasm by the participants.

The fest, held over four days, showcased a wide spectrum of artistic expression and creativity, leaving behind a sense of accomplishment and inspiration for future editions.

Cyber Security Awareness Talk Held at STS School, AMU

ALIGARH, April 2: An awareness talk on cyber security was organised at STS School (Minto Circle), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), by the Cyber Cell of Aligarh Police to sensitise students about digital safety and online risks.

The session, held at the school’s AV Lab, featured officials from the Cyber Cell, including Inspector Pankaj Kumar, Incharge Cyber Cell, Inspector Sachin Singh and Mr. Vipin Kumar, who shared practical insights on safe internet usage and protection against cyber threats.

Addressing the students, Inspector Pankaj Kumar highlighted the increasing incidents of online fraud and identity theft, cautioning that students are particularly vulnerable due to their growing engagement with digital platforms. He emphasised the importance of maintaining “digital hygiene,” including regular password updates, use of two-factor authentication and vigilance against suspicious messages and links.

Mr. Vipin Kumar elaborated on the social and legal dimensions of internet usage, drawing attention to issues such as cyberbullying and privacy concerns. He advised students to exercise caution in their online activities, noting that irresponsible digital behaviour can have long-term personal and professional consequences. He also guided students on reporting cybercrimes through official channels and encouraged them to seek help from trusted adults.

Principal of STS School, Mr. Faisal Nafis, thanked the officers for their informative session and underscored the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and law enforcement in promoting digital awareness among students.
