Dr Mushtaq Sadaf delivering the extension lecture at JMI New Delhi

AMU’s Faculty Member Delivers Extension Lecture on Role of Urdu Media in the Modern Era

Aligarh, September 22: Dr Mushtaq Sadaf, Faculty Member, Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Teachers (Urdu Academy), Aligarh Muslim University, delivered an extension lecture on “Role of Urdu Media in the Modern Era”, organised by the Department of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Dr Sadaf said that Urdu media has played an important role in highlighting the cultural narrative and preserving the Urdu language and Indian civilisation despite limited resources.

He said that Urdu media had made a significant contribution to raising public issues and bringing the voices of common citizens and marginalised sections to the attention of those in power. He added that Urdu journalism was also taking the language and its intellectual traditions into the digital world.

Dr Sadaf further said that Urdu media had adapted to modern technology by embracing the internet, social media and mobile applications. At the same time, he expressed concern over the spread of fake news, propaganda, sensationalism and one-sided reporting aimed at increasing ratings and views, observing that such trends could weaken the social fabric.

Dr Sadaf emphasised that contemporary Urdu media should draw inspiration from the contributions of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who used journalism as a means of contributing to the development and progress of society and the country.
