AMU International Conference Concludes with Call for Evidence-Based Policy and Inclusive Development

AMU International Conference Concludes with Call for Evidence-Based Policy and Inclusive Development

Aligarh, September 28: The two-day International Conference on “Educational and Economic Status of Muslims in India: Challenges, Opportunities and Policy Recommendations”, organised by the Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), concluded on September 27 with a renewed call for sustained research, inclusive educational opportunities, economic empowerment and evidence-based policy interventions.

Held on September 26–27, the conference brought together eminent academicians, scholars, policymakers, educationists and experts from across the country to examine contemporary educational and economic challenges and deliberate on constructive, research-driven approaches for expanding opportunities and strengthening institutional support.

The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor, AMU, with Mr Manoj Yadav, IPS, Director General, Haryana Institute of Public Administration, as Chief Guest. Prof. Amitabh Kundu, former Professor of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, delivered the Keynote Address, while Prof. K. M. Baharul Islam, Director and Professor, Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad, attended as Guest of Honour.

The academic programme featured 10 technical sessions, during which 170 research papers were presented on diverse dimensions of the educational, socio-economic and cultural advancement of Muslims in India. The deliberations covered contemporary challenges, emerging opportunities, institutional concerns, skill development, economic empowerment and possible policy interventions. Four panel discussions further enriched the conference by bringing together scholars, educationists and experts for wider academic exchange and critical reflection.

The Valedictory Session, held on September 27, was presided over by Prof. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, AMU. Emphasising the importance of constructive academic engagement, Prof. Khan said that “research must ultimately contribute to meaningful social progress and help develop informed, inclusive and practical solutions.”

Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, former Vice-Chancellor, AMU, the Chief Guest, stressed the need to connect scholarship with action. He observed that “academic deliberations acquire greater significance when they lead to constructive initiatives and strengthen educational and economic opportunities.”

Prof. Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Honorary Director, K. A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, AMU, the Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of knowledge and inclusive development.

A comprehensive report of the proceedings was presented by Dr Andaleeb, highlighting the major discussions and observations emerging from the various sessions. Prof. Mohammad Mohibul Haque, Director, CEPECAMI, presented the policy recommendations compiled from the conference deliberations. The recommendations sought to identify practical and policy-oriented measures for strengthening educational inclusion, skill development, economic empowerment, institutional capacity-building and access to opportunities.

The valedictory programme was conducted by Dr Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, Assistant Director, CEPECAMI and Co-convener of the conference. Scholars and distinguished participants were also felicitated in recognition of their academic contributions and valuable participation.

The conference concluded with an emphasis on strengthening the link between research, policy and institutional action, while promoting continued dialogue among academia, policymakers and stakeholders. The extensive participation provided a significant platform for informed discourse and for exploring constructive pathways towards educational and economic advancement.
