AMU Community Medicine Department Organises Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme at UHTC

ALIGARH, June 9: As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, organised a health talk and awareness programme at the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) to educate the community about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote tobacco-free lifestyles.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine. Dr.ShaistaPerveen, Senior Resident, highlighted the significance of World No Tobacco Day and the need for sustained public awareness against tobacco consumption.

Dr. Riya, Junior Resident, discussed the adverse health consequences of tobacco use, including its association with cancer, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses and other serious health conditions. Dr. Rohan Kaushik, Junior Resident, delivered a health talk on tobacco cessation, preventive measures and the dangers of both smoking and smokeless tobacco products.

In the presence of Dr.Suboohi Afzal, Lady CMO, UHTC, Dr.ShaistaPerveen, postgraduate students, interns, undergraduate students, Medical Social Workers and UHTC staff members, participants also took a “No Tobacco” pledge, reaffirming their commitment to spreading awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and promoting a tobacco-free society.
