AMU Units Join ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign with Plantation Drives

ALIGARH, June 13: Various departments, educational institutions and residential halls of Aligarh Muslim University participated in the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, promoting environmental conservation and greater public awareness about the importance of tree plantation.

The Department of Linguistics planted two saplings at its Translation Cell on Anoopshahr Road. Addressing faculty and staff members, Chairman of the Department, Prof. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi, described the campaign as a continuation of the spirit of World Environment Day and emphasized the collective responsibility of society to plant and nurture trees for a greener and cleaner environment.

The NCC units of AMU, 1/8 and 2/8 Company, organised a tree plantation and awareness programme under the guidance of Col. Aabhash Avasthi, Commanding Officer, 8 UP Battalion, Aligarh. Capt. Najaf Ali Khan, Company Commander, highlighted the importance of a green environment and environmental sustainability. The programme was attended by 25 NCC cadets, along with Hav. K. P. Singh, Senior Cadet Kuldeep Kumar, and staff members Mr. Abdul Mannan and Mr. Ansar.

At Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School, the plantation drive was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Mohammad Faiyazuddin, who underscored the importance of environmental conservation in addressing challenges such as pollution and climate change. Examination In-charge Syed Anwar Siddiqui described the campaign as a meaningful tribute to both mothers and nature. Teachers and staff members pledged to nurture the saplings and promote environmental awareness. Among those present were Dr. Faiz-ur-Rahman, Dr. Mohammad Iqbal, Dr. Suhaib Siddiqui, Syed Masahab Ali, Anjum Latafat, Shaista Khan and Dr. Mohammad Rizwan.

A similar plantation drive was organised at Abdullah Hall, where Provost Dr.Sheeba Jilani inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling. Warden Ms. Mehwash Khan, Section Officer Mr. Abdul Wasique and hall staff participated enthusiastically and reaffirmed their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
