 JNMC Organises Seminar on Malaria and Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases

ALIGARH, June 11: The Department of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, observed No Malaria Month by organising a seminar on “Diagnosis and Management of Malaria and Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases” to raise awareness about the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

The programme began with introductory remarks by Dr. Syed Hasan Amir, Officiating Chairman, Department of Medicine, who highlighted the continuing public health burden of malaria, dengue and chikungunya, particularly in tropical and sub-tropical regions. He emphasized the need for awareness, preparedness and preventive measures ahead of the forthcoming monsoon season to reduce the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Dr. Mohd. Habib Ur Rahman, Senior Resident, discussed the diagnosis and management of malaria, dengue and chikungunya. He emphasized the importance of early detection through haematological and biochemical investigations, including smear examination, rapid diagnostic tests and ELISA. He also highlighted that preventive measures such as eliminating stagnant water and using mosquito repellents can significantly reduce the spread of these diseases.

The seminar, organized under the guidance of Prof. Khwaja Saifullah Zafar, Chairman, Department of Medicine, witnessed active participation from faculty members, residents, nursing staff and non-teaching employees of the Department.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. M. Uwais Ashraf.
