AMU Department of Education Organises Orientation-cum-Interactive Session on Outcome-Based Education
Aligarh, June 3: The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an Orientation-cum-Interactive Session on“Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Implementation and Assessment” for its faculty members to enhance their understanding of OBE and strengthen competencies related to its implementation and assessment in line with the quality assurance framework of NAAC.
Prof. Nakhat Nasreen, Chairperson, Department of Education, expressed her purpose in hosting the programme and welcomed the distinguished resource persons, Prof. Abid Ali Khan, Director, IQAC, AMU, and Prof. Faisal Hasan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Z.H. College of Engineering & Technology, AMU.
Addressing the session, Prof. Abid Ali Khan elaborated on the evolving requirements of NAAC and explained the newly introduced ten-criterion framework aimed at strengthening institutional quality and accreditation processes. He highlighted the significance of institutional Vision and Mission in guiding educational planning and highlighted the role of Programme Outcomes (POs), Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs), Course Objectives, and Course Outcomes (COs) as the cornerstone of Outcome-Based Education. He also discussed curriculum mapping and its importance in ensuring alignment among institutional goals, teaching-learning processes, and assessment practices.
Prof. Faisal provided an in-depth understanding of direct and indirect assessment mechanisms within the OBE framework. He explained how assessment strategies can be effectively linked with Course Outcomes to evaluate student learning attainment and emphasized the use of assessment data for monitoring academic performance and driving continuous quality improvement.
The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session in which faculty members actively participated and exchanged views on various dimensions of OBE implementation and assessment. The deliberations enabled participants to gain practical insights into quality enhancement practices and contemporary accreditation requirements.
In her concluding remarks, Prof. Nasreen thanked the resource persons for their expertise and insightful presentations and appreciated the active participation of faculty members.
